As previously announced, all tunes in World Tour will be master tracks, and the game's creators also teased the first few tunes from its substantive roster. During the media briefing, Neversoft performed Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell," The Foo Fighters' "Everlong," and Sublime's "Santeria," and said that Linkin Park, Van Halen, and The Eagles would also lend tracks to the game. As per the Intellisponse leak, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, and Muse are also rumored to be part of that setlist, which will include roughly 85 songs in total.

EuroGamer has a preview as well. Some interesting bits...
We huddle round as the in-house drumming pro (incidentally also the resident Tony Hawk master) goes hell for leather on a Foo Fighters song on Expert. It's breathtaking to watch. Rather, it's like real drumming in a way that Rock Band hints at but never quite achieves. Amazing what a difference a couple of pizza slice-shaped bits of rubber can make.
Those infuriating boss battles in Guitar Hero III, Neversoft admits "didn't work so well". These will be "very different" in World Tour, but that's as much as we get, aside from a pledge of more star cameos.
Artists confirmed so far include Van Halen, Linkin Park and The Eagles. We see others during our demo, but we're not allowed to talk about them. Especially not the really exciting classic track by that massive popstar who had a really high profile court case a few years ago. Move along, nothing to see here.
So Michael Jackson, yes? Also some stuff about them wanting it to be cheaper than Rock Band and a non-denial over Guitar Hero: Beatles.

Those of you who are excited to see System of a Down possibly in Guitar Hero, which songs are you hoping for exactly? I remember reading comments by a ton of idiots (probably GameFAQs) saying something along the lines of "omg violent pornography wuld be teh best guitar hreo song EVAR". WTF? Isn't that one of the worst possible SoaD songs you could pick out for that purpose? Why choose "Violent Pornography" when the very next track on the album would be infinitely better? "Question!" is my pick, easy.

I've thought about a three-pack for Rock Band and my three songs would be:
Why in the everlasting fuck would anybody consider Michael Jackson being in a Guitar Hero game a good thing?
I mean come on, it's Michael Jackson fer chrissakes.
Beat It would be awesome. Hell, the guitar solo was done by Eddie Van Halen, so at least there's something there.
My contention isn't with the music, it's with the person. Who's next, Gary Glitter?
You are the worst kind of person. The song is great, off of one of the most amazing albums of all time. Supposedly touching little boys doesn't dent the album or its tracks at all.
I just read an interview on IGN with the CEO of Vicarious Visions. She had the following to say about the Wii version of Guitar Hero: On Tour. If you guys missed it (I clearly did, and it's discussion), here is the short version with everything you need to know.
On feature completeness:
"[The Wii version of Guitar Hero: World Tour will] have robust character customization, online play with up to eight players (including Band Vs Band online), downloadable songs and the ground breaking Music Studio, in which players can create their own tunes and share them with other Wii players via GHTunes. It's all there on the Wii."
"The Wii version [of the music studio] will be very similar to the PS3/360 version, but the content sharing can only be traded within the Wii community."
"Other than the obvious graphical differences, we've really tried to keep the Wii on close parity [with the next gen versions]. The team has been working really hard to deliver a deep, rich experience for the Wii consumer. We're not copping out with a simple port."
On DLC:
"GHWT Wii has an in-game Music Store, which allows players to preview, purchase and download new songs as we release them online. Players can purchase songs using their Wii Points. It's really easy. You can download to the Wii System Memory or store songs on an SD Card, called the "Rock Archive."
We have a new feature called "create-a-set list". So when you want to play songs you have purchased, you just make a custom set list of songs you wish to play from the Rock Archive, pick a venue and play!
If you accidentally delete a song, or don't have an SD Card and have run out of room in the Wii system memory, you can always re-download the song for free."
On hardware compatibility:
"Our instruments follow Nintendo's Wii remote wireless standard. So the guitar and drums work by plugging the Wii remote into the instrument. So unfortunately the game won't support any instrument that doesn't follow Nintendo's standard. The microphone however is a wired USB microphone (also Nintendo's recommended approach), so any USB microphone will work. [Note: Rock Band Wii uses USB instruments.]"
"Anyone who bought the Les Paul guitar (with GHIII Wii or the upcoming GH Aerosmith Wii) can use them in Guitar Hero World Tour."
So goddamn it, this is good news. I'm about to abandon the Wii for all my fake band needs. This is seriously giving me second thoughts. Harmonix threw together a version of Rock Band that's essentially a giant "fuck you" to Wii owners. Activision seems to be making sure the Wii gets just treatment with Guitar Hero: World Tour. I'm so torn.
Also, before I got sidetracked, I came in to say that I finally found that Nyko Frontman for PS3, and it works so beautifully. Probably my favorite guitar controller. Also got the PS3 version of GH3, so if you wanna challenge me sometime (but not tonight), my PSN ID is UnbreakableVow.
Man...I know this is gonna sound like Bizarro world but
"You see, Harmonix? This is how you do DLC on th Wii."
They really need to compare notes on this shit. Harmonix can learn how to treat Wii owners right, while Activision gets some tips on pricing structures and release dates.
Sigh it's like they're moving further and further away from decent track lists. 2 had good songs. 3 had meh songs. This new one sounds slightly saddening. I really like the tracklist from Rock Band, though. I know I will play it, either way, I guess I will just have to see how it goes.

This is wrong. You might not be fond of them, but Guitar Hero 3 had a whole bunch of excellent songs. World Tour is shaping up to also have a large amount of awesome songs. I can only hope that there's some Tenacious D in there somewhere, or at least some PC DLC of Tenacious D in the near future. Regardless, we've got Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne (And probably Black Sabbath as a result.) and The Eagles. Those alone are awesome, let alone the others that have yet to be announced.
Honestly, most of the songs range from awesome to tolerable, while there are a couple that are just so horrible that you really have to wonder what the hell they were thinking while including them. Such as Before I Forget.
As a side note, I finally picked up GH3 yesterday because I saw it on sale for $20. Just finished the seventh tier on hard--it's really telling that the only song I 5-starred in that group was Cult of Personality. Also, whoever designed the chart for Before I Forget should be dragged out into the street and beaten mercilessly.

There are good songs in GH3. Even Flow is fantastic, Cliffs of dover, when you were young, etc. list goes on ... but they're side by side with slipknot and such, which count as negative songs. At least the songs that I didn't like much in GH2 weren't terrible songs, and the songs in Rock Band are all agree-able or at worst wedding singer type songs. I could just play Heroes and Learn to Fly over and over and over and be fine, anyway.
I have issues with people universally condemning Before I Forget as a negative song in GH3. You may not like it, but it won a fucking grammy. You can't objectively say it's a bad song.

Edit: Oh god, a boss battle vs. Michael Jackson would be the most amazing thing ever.

You seem to have answered your own question.

Edit: Oh, it's the legal aspects. Yeah, iffy legal situations and rock music doesn't mix, I guess.
I'd be down for more Weird Al in general.

They've failed to deliver on their promises for both GH2 360 and GH3 overall.
I'd have an easier time believing they could pull off weekly DLC like Rock Band if they weren't making a new game (or two) every six months.

What a terrible band.
GH1 is still my favorite song wise.
Here's hoping we finally get some Zepplin.
Not so much to listen to it. :P
