Why would you invoke the wrath of Red Lottery and Yes We Can?
I think it's pretty universal that those two songs are the worst songs ever put into a Guitar Hero game. Luckily, Trogdor and Thunderhorse were awesome enough to cancel out their terribleness.

"Institutionalized" is a very polarizing song. Personally I love it. The point is whether or not you like the song it still has a sane notechart so it's at least fun to play.
Institutionalized is a terrible song and no fun to play. I forced myself to play through to pass each level and I never want to play or listen to it again.

Says the guy who thinks "Beat It" is a bad idea in GH.
I just read an interview on IGN with the CEO of Vicarious Visions. She had the following to say about the Wii version of Guitar Hero: On Tour. If you guys missed it (I clearly did, and it's discussion), here is the short version with everything you need to know.
On feature completeness:
"[The Wii version of Guitar Hero: World Tour will] have robust character customization, online play with up to eight players (including Band Vs Band online), downloadable songs and the ground breaking Music Studio, in which players can create their own tunes and share them with other Wii players via GHTunes. It's all there on the Wii."
"The Wii version [of the music studio] will be very similar to the PS3/360 version, but the content sharing can only be traded within the Wii community."
"Other than the obvious graphical differences, we've really tried to keep the Wii on close parity [with the next gen versions]. The team has been working really hard to deliver a deep, rich experience for the Wii consumer. We're not copping out with a simple port."
On DLC:
"GHWT Wii has an in-game Music Store, which allows players to preview, purchase and download new songs as we release them online. Players can purchase songs using their Wii Points. It's really easy. You can download to the Wii System Memory or store songs on an SD Card, called the "Rock Archive."
We have a new feature called "create-a-set list". So when you want to play songs you have purchased, you just make a custom set list of songs you wish to play from the Rock Archive, pick a venue and play!
If you accidentally delete a song, or don't have an SD Card and have run out of room in the Wii system memory, you can always re-download the song for free."
On hardware compatibility:
"Our instruments follow Nintendo's Wii remote wireless standard. So the guitar and drums work by plugging the Wii remote into the instrument. So unfortunately the game won't support any instrument that doesn't follow Nintendo's standard. The microphone however is a wired USB microphone (also Nintendo's recommended approach), so any USB microphone will work. [Note: Rock Band Wii uses USB instruments.]"
"Anyone who bought the Les Paul guitar (with GHIII Wii or the upcoming GH Aerosmith Wii) can use them in Guitar Hero World Tour."
So goddamn it, this is good news. I'm about to abandon the Wii for all my fake band needs. This is seriously giving me second thoughts. Harmonix threw together a version of Rock Band that's essentially a giant "fuck you" to Wii owners. Activision seems to be making sure the Wii gets just treatment with Guitar Hero: World Tour. I'm so torn.
Wow, I just read this.
Activision/Neversoft/Vicarious Visions are treating the Wii user base with respect, the same for which cannot be said of the people.. working.. on the Wii version of Rock Band.. whoever they are (I don't think it's Harmonix. But if it is, shame.)
I've been reading kotaku's preview stuff for GHIV.
They said that GH3's DLC will work in GHIV. Yay!
They also said that the drumset is better than the Rock Band drumset, just in general. Larger pads, silicone pads that are easier for drum rolls, velocity sensitive pads, muting cymbal pads, and all of this stuff can be used in the create-a-song mode.
the new guitar has a touch sensitive slider, and a new bridge button. the slider can be used as an "arpeggiator" whatever that is, in Music creation mode.
there's a knob or accelerometer of some kind to adjust the pitch of notes within the music editor, and also for star power
you can palm mute notes in the music creator with The Bridge or use it for star power ingame.

With no source. Also, how would that work? I'm guessing they didn't include unnecessary drum and vocal tracks in the current files, so would your GH3 DLC be an IOU on re-released DLC?
My brother just got me On Tour for my birthday. It's not too bad i guess but it takes some time getting used to the strumming. There is an expert difficulty although I haven't played the harder songs yet so i dont know how hard it can get. If there are any questions I'll try my best to answer them after i get home.

You're right, they don't say how or where they got this info. If they got it from an activision or neversoft rep, they could and should have said so.
So treat the news with a grain of salt. Kotaku is pretty sloppy as a news source.
How will it work? I assume that it will just be the same DLC as GH3's - only guitars playable. Rather than an "IOU" for the other instruments. Nevertheless, that's better than nothing. If it's true.
GH3 DLC wont work in GH:Aerosmith though. But that's not much of a surprise.

What most of us are interested in is how difficult the Expert mode can get.
Many of us would much like it to be just as difficult as GH3's expert mode, or as close to that difficulty level as possible.
The worst thing that can happen, at this point, is to buy the game and then Five Star every song on expert on the first try. Or second try.

Yes and Yes, and I have not forgotten those broken promises. I guess what I meant by what I said was, "assuming what I have read is true, then..." However, these promises may indeed be broken. Even so, if Activision/NS/VV do as good a job with GH:WT as they did with GH3 wii, they'll at least have done more for the version than the RockBand wii version.

This is not a high bar to set. At all. Between no DLC, a launch in mono, PS2-quality graphics, and assrape prices on guitars I was far from impressed with their treatment of Wii fans with GH3. I mean, I suppose they certainly blew the competition away, but that's easy to do when you have none. The fact that Rock Band decided to fuck Wii customers just a little harder doesn't excuse the shortcomings of GH3.

the mono launch was a horrible oversight and I doubt they'll make the same mistake again.
The problem was fixed, thank God, and I doubt it should be an issue again.. but in terms of what the game provides, GH3 Wii was really not lacking in anything substantial compared to the 360/PS3 versions. The games were basically the same, and the Wii version even had a robust online mode that was like a microcosm of Xbox live for the game, and would stay connected with on-the-fly invites and such, and would always connect and upload and interact with the tour groups and leaderboards on scorehero.com.
That's better than RBW - taking out real time band, taking out character creation, taking out world tour, and giving us ... really.. just the basic gameplay and a set list with prerendered background video, and no online connectivity what so ever.
GH3 was decent and acceptable as a Wii version of a music game. If they manage to make GHIV have real time band, create a character, online modes, gh.com connectivity, create a character, etc etc, all of primary features (other than graphics, so long as the framerate is good) of the other 360/ps3 versions, they'll really be treating the version better than the RB Wii version.
All I ask is the primary stuff and that it runs well. I couldn't care much less about DLC, personally, but that's just me.
I'd agree that RB Wii is an atrocity. As for the rest, still sounds like a big "if" to me. But yes, if they do manage all the base features I'll be a happy camper. I guess that overall I just got a pretty horrible impression from GH3 Wii.
Though I'll agree that, friend codes aside, the online was entirely passable...even fairly good.
But DLC is a big deal to me, so that was still a pretty big deal watching my friends download more tracks on their 360s while I'm stuck with the base list. Even sparse DLC is better than none. Plus I'd kill for some co-op quickplay.
I'm pretty sure coop quickplay was announced for GH:WT as a feature. :P I think anyway
hopefully the DLC thing will turn out true. They at least have some terms for the ways in which it will be stored on the Wii . The Rock Archive or something, on the SD card? Maybe they will have it.
The big difference between them is that, even if you don't like them, all the songs in 2 are fun to play (barring you know what). Institutionalized is a good example of this. 3 had songs that I did not like, and on top of that were not fun to play. Hell, even some of the good songs aren't fun to play (hurricane).
As for difficulty, my first GH was GH3, which I didn't play hardcore...so naturally expert kicked my ass. It looks difficult, but I am skeptical that they can achieve the same difficulty without the orange fret. Looks like it'll come close, though.
They changed battles, I think. Instead of getting the other guy to fail the song, you simply play until it ends and highest score wins. So, it's standard versus with items. The items are pretty clever, such as using your pick to reattach a broken string, blowing out fire or the oft-mentioned autograph. Also, you can only use one item at a time rather than bury your opponent in three. There's also defensive items such as a shield which prevents the opponent from using offensive items and difficulty down. Not sure how the screen-flip works, which would make it pretty rare.
The game is basically a fairly full GH experience on the DS. It's a slightly weird adjusting to the grip, but not that bad. Strumming works just fine for me, BUT the bar uses the same action as strumming, so if you go crazy with it when the chord ends it might register as you play a note at the wrong time.
Worth the fifty, in my opinion. Damn fine job, though I wish it had online.
Does anyone know what the song that you play against Joe Perry is?
And i'm disapointed to see that they still snuck a vs. battle in there.
The guitar battle is probably something that Perry wrote just for the game--like the stuff Slash and Tom Morello did for GH3. Also, at least it's only one battle; they could've made you fight Brad Whitford too.
Oh man, Spaniard, you have On Tour? I absolutely must hear impressions!
oddly, there are not yet reviews for it.
I just got back from the beach, I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I tried at the beach but the sun made it impossible so I just decided to play something analogue under that thing with legs.

Dude, that's not that bad of a song, compared to these:

What the fuck is this. Shouldn't people have to learn how to play the guitar before they start recording music? Or learn how to sing? Etc?
Also, that was a pretty good Grammy comment, made me laugh something fierce.

I'm guessing its a composition specially for the game. There's YouTube vids of it up already.
Not a terrible chart, but the song itself is just very...meh.
Also: Holy random strums batman!
Edit:
Train Kept A'rollin
Can anyone tell if, when they re-recorded the song, they played all those notes as chords? I can't really hear the guitar...
I'm pretty sure they're from the PS2 version.
One neat feature: when you unpause, the note highway is empty for a few seconds and then brings up the notes from where you left off.
