There's some new GGC videos up at IGN. Guitar Hero: Fine, we'll animate the damn drummer? They mention some songs in the preview, but the only new one seems to be "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt.

I must have missed it if it was announced before but that coldplay song is new to me.

Eh, honestly, if I was in high school right now, and I could get my folks to go along with it I'd be doing the same thing this kid is doing. So I don't blame him at all.

It's the assclown parents for letting the kid get away with it that deserve to be tarred and feathered.

    Loving the new thread title.

The thing with that kid is that his parents raised him completely wrong. That he's wasting his early life playing Guitar Hero is irrelevant; if it wasn't Guitar Hero, it'd be World of Warcraft, or Halo 3, or whatever other game. Because really, the kid isn't playing Guitar Hero properly. At all. Now, if I really, really want to improve my score or 5 star a song, I will stay moderately still just because I'm generally not good enough at the solos to move around freely. If I'm decent or good at a song, I will just naturally rock the fuck out as I play. I feel like there's something intrinsically wrong if I'm playing an awesome song and I'm not banging my head, holding the plastic guitar upright even if I don't have star power, and so on. Just pressing the buttons is missing out on the funnest aspect of the game; pretending you're a rock star.

Mind, I imagine the experience is multiplied about a million times for something like Rock Band, but with World Tour we'll soon get our own. 8-)
God damn it Harmonix release Rock Band 2 for PC please.

Is this kid on Scorehero or anything that actually shows he's anything more than a local talented player? He says he's "in the top 15-20 players in the country" but unless he is consistently showing up in the top scores on score hero he probably can't say that.

And yes, he needs to have someone beat him up and tell him trying to play video games for a living is just plain stupid. Find something else you are good at and go for that, and keep your video games a hobby. Perhaps a hobby that earns some cash, but others before you have not been able to do it, and more than likely, neither will you.

Even that stupid guy e for all is hosting isn't really a top player anymore. His shining moment passed, games have moved on to newer ones and he has not adapted. The only reason we still know his name is because companies took this long to actually approach him about "sponsorship" and branding. Which is just plain stupid and any respectable person generally avoids the stuff like the plague. Plus we all hate him for ruining Miyamoto's Time article.

So, more details (may possibly be old):

    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/899/899340p1.html

--Drum pads are quiet, cymbals can be raised and lowered, star power activated by hitting both cymbals simultaneously
The new guitar plays just like the old one did, but offers a few new twists. There's now a touch pad on the neck that can be used mid-song. If you're playing bass (it still works on guitar parts as well), you can tap the touch bar to mimic a slap motion instead of strumming the bar. The touch pad can also be used to add a bit more to sustained notes in solos, similar to the extra buttons on the Rock Band guitar. A few of the songs we played had solos where the notes were strung together with purple lines. In these, you can just touch the appropriate section of the bar and slide your finger back and forth to hit the notes. I'm not such a big fan of this, but you can always ignore it and play as you did in previous Guitar Hero games.

--Beginner singing mode that ignores pitch, just picks up rhythm, free-form sections where you can sing what you like, but need to stay on pitch/rhythm

--Star power pool is shared, you can't save band members who have failed out, everyone loses if someone fails

--If you pause and restart, there's a three-second countdown before the song begins again

GH:WT is not a party game. Do they have a no-fail mode? This will kill any attempt by people to just gather around, drink beer, and play GH:WT. I've played enough Rock Band to know this is true.

I guess unless it's ridiculously hard to actually fail out...I dunno....even then.

Yeah, that's got me a little concerned. It's also looking like the guitar touch bar thing might only be usable by people who are really, REALLY good.

The new way to activate star power on drums looks like it could be subtler than Rock Band, though it all depends on how it's implemented.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

That quote kind of implies to me that everything is shared. In Guitar Hero 2 and 3, in co-op you share both your starpower meter and your rock meter. I think it's reasonable if they put everybody on the same rock meter. Then one person sucking won't fail everyone out, but if enough people do badly, then you will fail (just like in Rock Band - one person is recoverable usually, but if multiple fail out, you're probably toast). That said, a no-fail mode for parties would be nice, but I don't think this is really any worse than Rock Band 1's system.

This only applies if you could keep playing if somebody failed... it says that if somebody fails you all fail (and can't bring them back with SP).

But one person sucking will fail everyone out. Like you said, in RB, one person is recoverable. In GHWT, if this is true, no one is recoverable. As someone who's seen everyone's freshman attempts at drumming end in tears, I think this is a pretty bad move. Hell, this is why people are excited about a no-fail mode in RB2—strictly because one person dragging down the song for everyone gets frustrating after a while.

I wonder if in multiplayer, the penalties for missing notes will be softened or something—like, if one person is in the red and everyone else is green, the failing player's missed notes won't count as much as they would normally. I might see something like that working.

man you worry warts. thats just one mode. IGN has an article on it: here

It's essentially Wii Music with better peripherals. I don't mind its inclusion, as it'll give me another thing to dick around with. But that is not the entire game itself.

but as you all know, once a game has "teh kiddie," there's no turning back. quick! jump ship!

"Beat It" looks boring on everything but vocals.
And that's considering the mysterious vocals system they have for this game.

The interface could use some sprucing up. All the eye-sore meters are up top where the vocals are.

Hot damn, the drummer isn't a robot anymore! And the art style is actually look-at-able! Honestly the art style and animation were some of the main reasons I hated GHIII (especially the drummer and the singer's), so I like the direction they're going with it now. I like the soundtrack, too, and now that I know I won't have to buy multiple instruments I have a better chance of dropping the money on GHWT and RB2.

But, on the other hand, the interface needs some streamlining (ie. unobtrusive rock meters) and the star power pool/one time fail is the stupidest thing ever. You can't even make the hardcore crowd argument, because bringing people back in isn't unfair to people trying to go for hardcore high scores at all in RB--you lose your star power for bringing people back in without any extra multiplier for it, which is a huge blow to your possible score. Making it a one star power pool just hurts the amount of strategy and skill that goes into using star power, not to mention it ruins the awesome feeling of everyone pulling the guitars up/hitting the crash cymbol/yelling into the mic together. Really, I was getting close to buying the game for sure until I saw some of these stupid design decisions. Now I'm really not sure. :/

What I meant is that it *would* be acceptable *if* they combined everyone's Rock Meters together. So instead of having your newbie drummer instantly drop into the red and die, you would just have the entire band hovering in the yellow the whole time. To me it wasn't clear from that quote which way they're going to go.

Nope, the article doesn't say the rock meter is pooled, it specifically says the star meter is pooled.
Of course, this game is about the band, not each individual part. The band mechanic relies on every link in the chain being strong -- if one person starts failing out horribly, everyone will lose. The star power pool is all shared, so keeping track of how your buddy is doing and activating the star power at the right time is the key to success on normal songs. Unlike Rock Band, you can't "save" someone once they've failed out, but activating star power will help them get a score boost and put them back on track.
