Has anyone heard of, or know about any price drops possibly happening in soon for either the PS3 or Xbox 360?
Analysts have been talking about a 360 price drop around the holidays, and SKU restructuring for the PS3, but there's been absolutely no official statement on straight price drops.
Unfortunately, neither will drop soon I'm sure. IF they were going to do it, the GTA:IV release would have been perfect for that.
The GTA4 release is a good reason NOT to drop prices, because it ensures consoles will move regardless, and install bases make the futures on sales a mixed bag for both companies so one dropping their price sets precedent and may not bear the results they hope for. Fall time will be pretty big for both consoles so price drops are not required compared to a Gamecube or similar.
August is the likely candidate for the 360 price drop since that's when the next hardware revision rolls out that's cheaper to manufacture. The last revision coincided with the first $50 drop. The PS3 will most likely follow suit if they don't preempt.

I would consider the upcoming PS3 MGS bundle a price drop of sorts, MGS4, a dualshock 3 controller and the 80 gig system for what the 80 gig system was selling for by itself before. ($499), basically getting a good new release for free. Its getting me to buy it.
Well before they had motorstorm and a regular sixaxis.
I've read a few things on joystiq and other gaming blogs with them predicting drops this holiday season, but really most of it is just educated guess work. Sony or Microsoft could drop the price tomorrow, they keep that information under wraps because if word got out that they were droping the price for sure in say, august, no one would buy a 360 until august.

...the PS3's MGS4 pack would be good for a price drop too, but since Gamestop is advertising it at $500 it looks like we're not getting that.
But, there's hope. Hardware sales for the 360 and PS3 actually dropped last month, even with GTA4 out. If sales remains stagnant for another month or two, you can bet they'll both drop their price soon. I think we've reached the limit of the number of people who want to pay $400 for a game system.
The Wii won't drop until you can find one of the damn things in stores regularly.
The MGS4 bundle is essentially a price drop if you care about the game. It's a $120 value between the game and a Dual Shock 3. It's convinced me to pick one up on June 12.

Um... not really. It's exactly the same as the Motorstorm pack, only with MGS4 instead of Motorstorm. Same price and all. Though I suppose there's the Dual Shock instead of the Threeaxis.

Nah, it would have been the perfect time to drop the price. Imagine if Microsoft dropped the price of the 360 $50 a week before the release of GTA:IV. It would have stole the thunder from Sony.
The sales of the 360s/PS3s were basically one giant pissing contest between Microsoft and Sony during the release of GTA:IV.
