Q: "I was wondering if you could create a code or a option to shut off the vocal pitch meter? Singing the song and making it "your own" would be a great idea and make an interesting addition to the game!!" - jd506
A: I can't talk about specific features until E3, but I think you'll be very happy with one of the new features in RB2
Go on...
Indeed. Right now I stay away from singing most of the time cause I'm horrendous. This would be cool.
Also, I'm curious whether the Guitar Hero drums are going to work.
Are you guessing at the artist names or something? Seems like it since you don't know some of them, but Panic Attack is officially confirmed as Dream Theater, not whoever it is you listed.
But there are 2 reasons I want to believe that list...more actually, but 2 major ones that have not shown up anywhere else that I know of. They are Pink Floyd and A Perfect Circle. Granted TOOL would be my #1, but at least this would give me my #2 artist (Floyd) and the chance to be Maynard.
Yea I was pretty sure it was a fake, but my friend that lives on the rockband forums got his panties all wet about this so I figured I should pass it along.
Q: "Will there be any improvements on vocals? Will there still be talky parts, and, if so, will they be fixed or easier to hit than they were in RB1?" - Lady Sia..
A: Yes, on multiple fronts. We've improved the balance for pitched vocals, and completely rewritten the non-pitched talky detection. Rock Band 2 has drastically more reliable talky parts.
Let me pose the question like this. There are two similarly good first person shooters coming out soon.
Both will have downloadable content released regularly by the creators.
But one will have the ability for user created maps built-in and an easy way to download them onto your own Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.
Which is the better value?
EDIT: I love the Rock Band series more than Guitar Hero personally but for someone who hasn't made up their mind one way or the other this is really all it boils down to.
Ah, but this is assuming the volume and regularity of downloadable content is equal between the two games. How do you think the volume of RB to GH3 content has been so far? And what about the volume of RB2 DLC (including all of the DLC released to date) versus GHWT DLC (which is starting from scratch)?
I admit that the "free unlimited songs for life!" bullet point on the back of the box is a very good sales pitch, but as I keep saying, Activision has promised the moon so, so many times with DLC before that I question anyone who believes them unhesitatingly that now, all of a sudden, they're dedicated to an in-game store with full releases and abandoning the full-priced expansion pack physical disc model that is Activision's MO. Even though GH2 DLC doesn't work in GH3, and GH3 DLC doesn't work in GH Aerosmith or GH World Tour, and nothing's been said of how GH Metallica figures into the mix.

This is all relevant to people who pay attention to things in the gaming news and have history with it. People who have played Guitar Hero and Rock Band at someone else's place probably doesn't know too much about shit beyond the fact that occasionally they might spend some money on some songs if they like them. So if it comes down to it that this fall they're thinking about picking up their first rhythm game, do they take one that has an extra drum head and the possibility of cool free songs or do they go with Rock Band?
Again, I can't state enough that I absolutely love Rock Band, but let's face it that most consumers are pretty dumb and brand loyal. The fact that it has the Guitar Hero name alone is going to be a big selling point to a lot of people. The "free DLC forever" idea isn't the biggest point of it though, it's "MAKE YOUR OWN SONGS YOU FRAT BOY ROCKSTAR YOU!" Try going over to GameFAQs or something and see just how many people think it's the coolest thing ever to be able to make music with the Guitar Hero controller.
And with that Activision has "outflanked" Harmonix in terms of what a lot of consumers are going to see sitting on store shelves.
Q: "Well, I'm going to go on record that this "limited time XBOX360 exclusivity" is total bull crap. Who does this benifit?" - killerew..
A: This benefits both gamers and Harmonix. Microsoft have been awesome in supporting us and have actually helped out on some of these things by visiting us and working hand-in-hand on new platform features. They've been a great partner on everything from development to marketing, and some of the features in the game would not have been possible without them.
As well as this, the other platforms are coming out really soon after the Xbox 360 launch. Trust me, if you're an other platform owner, you'll be surprised at how little you have to wait.
Did I miss the part of the answer that explains how it benefits gamers? I can honestly say that if the PS3 launch is months after the 360 launch I will likely just buy GH:WT instead. I may buy RB2 later on as well, but they will absolutely lose my "fall 2008 next gen rhythm game" purchase.
To be perfectly honest, that answer only makes me think that HMX is in bed with MS and RB2 is liable to be taylored to the 360 and even more gimped on other consoles than RB is. If I didn't have 100 DLC songs on my PS3 I would without a doubt just buy a 360 for RB2, but the DLC makes that pretty much impossible as well.
*sigh*

All very true; from a marketing standpoint it's very nice ammunition. But I don't think it's necessarily the silver bullet that sees Guitar Hero "overtake" Rock Band (though I think from a sales perspective GH has already overtaken RB several times over). It's compelling, and Activision talks a very good game, but to continue the hypothetical newcomer to the genre who's deciding between RB2 and GHWT: Rock Band 2 still has the overwhelming support of DLC already in its stable.
There are 100+ songs that will be available day and date to buy at $1 to $2 a pop along with the 80+ on disc (and if rumors are true and the RB1 songs are available, that'll make close to 300 songs for RB2!), and we have no idea what's going to happen with GH's paid DLC. I believe they've said the music store is going to be patched in later (which I think is a stall tactic), but the constant stream of DLC is what's kept Rock Band constantly in people's minds, and I've no doubt that GHWT won't be able to keep up.
And I wouldn't be so sure that "make your own music" can trump "hundreds of songs that you know and love, plus more every single week forever, and the old ones work with the new game so if we make a Rock Band 3 you can keep all the stuff you've bought." I'm the furthest thing from the casual GH/RB fan, obviously , but all my friends whom I've gotten to enjoy the games love it because it's a way to experience music they already know and love, not so much for creating their own stuff.
Yea I find it hard to believe AC/DC finally signed on the the GH/RB madness, yet my heart wants to believe.
AC/DC is pretty much confirmed. It was in a survey that HMX put out thats been seen as pretty legit.
And as much as I agree that the "MAKE YOUR OWN SONG AND SHRED YOU ROCKSTAR!!!!" factor will sell a lot of GH:WT, I think the "Dude this is taking too long, lets just play Everlong" word will spread fast - and eventually lead to RB2 sales, with eBay and Craigslist seeing a ton of GH:WT.
SALES will be even for GH:WT and RB2.

What most likely happened was that between better Microsoft support than the other companies and the fact that the PS3 is a pain to program for, the 360 version will be finished first by a month or two. Not to mention EA wants to get this out before GH4 hits.

I don't ever except Activision to put out much DLC compared to Harmonix. They just put out too many actual releases to spare the charting power. Entirely different style.

I bolded the part where it helps gamers. Anytime anyone on the console side of things helps out a software developer it sheds some light on things about all consoles. Microsoft helping Harmonix likely benefited all versions of Rock Band 2, so for helping them out Harmonix is helping them out.
Yea I find it hard to believe AC/DC finally signed on the the GH/RB madness, yet my heart wants to believe.

I know that I'll be buying RB2 day and date, and I might rent GHWT to see how it is, but honestly the two brands together have such absurdly bright futures that I don't see either one killing off the other one. It's not like System Warz, where typically the one with the biggest marketshare reaps the rewards and the other consoles suffer; both games are inevitably going to get great songs, and one game is inevitably going to get an exclusive song that owners of the other game get jealous over.

Well, to be honest Sony really needs some sense kicked into them. The whole debacle with them capitulating to Activision to prevent the release of the guitar compatibility patch shows that much. Microsoft just doesn't take that shit.
Has this already been discussed? I'm assuming it's fake...

Please let the bolded songs be real. At least. Harmonix will have been reading my mind if these are in.
This isn't really a fair comparison, considering that in the case of someone building maps for an FPS, they generally would have access to everything that the company does when building a map. GHWT would be akin to using blocks of already created stuff and sticking it together to make a map.

I'd compare it to the Brawl custom map creator. The maps don't look anywhere near as nice as the ones hand-crafted by the developers, but they can still be fun (in gameplay terms) if done well.

Also if they put any Springsteen in I would hope it's Lion's Den or I'm Going Down because those are both so fun and terribly underappreciated.
I really just want them to go ahead and release (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, already. How long have they been working on that fucking song?

Ive never wanted to believe any setlist more. That is so close to perfection it's hurting me to think it most likely will not be...
What if the DLC for the Wii version of World Tour is just the ability to import user-made tracks, not the ability to buy actual songs?
That would explain a lot, and I wouldn't put it past the new Activision.
I see Comfortably Numb on that list
