The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So i have wanted to pick up sketching for some time because i travel frequently, have a sharp memory of images, and only have the ability to write about my experiences instead of drawing them. I toyed around with posting on this forum to ask for guides for a total beginner who's last art class was in middle school. I dismissed the idea because my summer is already busy and i thought it must be a quick phase i wanted to explore.
While working at the coffee shop i noticed a customer copying a postcard and doing a fantastic job so i complemented her and explained the above paragraph. She said if i have a great image memory i could do fantastic as anyone can really learn to draw at a certain level. She got very excited and told me to buy Betty Edwards' Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Taking this as too much of a coincidence to ignore i would like to take up sketching specifically as a hobby.
So: Would you please recommend other books/websites/guides to help a total beginner develop a curriculum for teaching himself to draw/sketch? If there is already a thread that addresses this please direct me to it so i dont waste anyones time.
