IGN's Peer Schneider is a little obsessive about our database -- specifically, making sure all of our game, movies and people objects feature up-to-date profiles and pictures. Recently, he updated the profile for Mario Segali, the famed NOA warehouse landlord who reportedly inspired the "Mario" name in Miyamoto's epic franchise.
As a little experiment, Peer decided to create a mock picture of the never-photographed Segali -- his goal being to see how long it took for fansites and other sources to nab it as legitimate. Peer started with a photo of IGN DVD editor Chris Monfette and then added a really crummy mustache, some equally poor eyebrows, and colored his hair to make him look a little older. Done.

That was about a month ago. Since that time, Monfette (as Segali) has already made it to the big time: print. This time, courtesy EGM Magazine. Here's a quick photo of this month's latest issue:
Why the hell does video game journalism suck so much?
This is obviously part of the Patriots plans to control our behaviour through manipulation of facts. THey made EGM print the wrong photo by making them think it was the right photo.
Hey dont paint all of games journalism with EGMs shitty brush.
It takes a special kind of fail to get had by IGN.
Or include an IGN watermarked concept piece in your cover art - and fail to catch it before it goes to retail. Maybe it's not gaming journalism. Maybe it's just gaming.
I figured out you could do that during my first few rounds of the MGO beta. How the hell could you get through the entire game without at least doing it on accident?
The only thing I can think of that they mean is either blind-firing or peeking out over a low horizontal wall. That picture shows him near a vertical edge.
I haven't played the MGO beta so I don't know if you can do either of these things, but really, they should say what they fucking mean, because "cover system" is pretty fucking vague.
Exactly, I wouldn't call IGN terrible except for their sometimes-inflated scores. I always enjoy reading their reviews, their closing comments give a nice summing up as well.

I still that that is the right photo, only that the Patriots fooled us into thinking that it was the wrong photo by giving it to IGN saying that it was the wrong photo so EGM could publish it thinking that it was the RIGHT photo.

Especially since MGS damn near *invented* the cover system (at least, it's the first game I remember being able to hide behind things and fire out from them)
Game Journalism isn't REAL journalism. It's a bunch of want-to-be industry insiders giving opinions on games getting kickbacks from the industry to play said games.
It's a few steps up from paid advertising spokesman (occasionally they'll admit the flaws of a game), and one step up from whore most of the time. For a multi-BILLION dollar industry, Game Journalism is a total joke.
well, kill.switch invented the cover system as we know it today
but technically time crisis invented the cover system
Was Kill.Switch any good? It's at Best Buy for 5$
No, it was a mediocre game that sold poorly. But somehow, the cover system in it has been copied and survives in virtually every game involving shooting now.

I thought it was fucking outstanding. It was like Gears of War but better.
I really enjoyed Kill.Switch, though I felt it ran a bit long for what is was. A level or two shorter and I woulda beat it. The story seemed pretty terrible, but it was also completely unnecessary.
Edit: Brought up Winback and found out I was beat'd severely.
Winback was pretty good. The dumb as dogshit AI makes it entertaining in a way.

I believe the main guy from kill.switch, or one of those guys anyway, went on to Gears Of War.
The problem with Winback is that most people that played it, played the PS2 version, and therefore compared it to other PS2 games (like MGS2). As a result, its viewed as being very mediocre. Had they released it as a PS1 game, I think people would remember it differently.

Most of game journalism is a joke.
I am very much hoping that Shawn Elliott and the rest of the crew at GFW Radio will use this to take another opportunity to talk about the state of game journalism, like they have done in the past. The only difference that this happening with a magazine that they actually work on now (ever since GFW has gone away).
I've always gotten the feeling that the GFW editors didn't think very highly of the journalism work of their peers, and often for good reason. Will they refrain from pulling the punches in this case?

Is...is...is that true?

And IGN isn't THAT bad, despite the fact that they employ that damn PSP licker for no apparent reason. Matt C. seems to be a pretty decent guy.

I don't know the reviews are pretty damn awful
Especially their older reviews, I just looked at an old one recently and goddamn all it is is a bunch of screenshots with jokes.

Winback?
The Sixth Annual Triwizard Drinking Tournament Part 1 |
Pokecrawl Episode 4: The Power Of One!
Portalflip
Pokemon X: Atlus | 3539-8807-3813
Winback did it that way first, actually. But kill.switch was a much better game.
Rebel Assault 2?

yes fine winback
but ugh who played winback

The PS2 version that hit right before MGS2 wasn't a bad game. Nothing memorable, though.
