I undertook this as a great challenge in the name of science: Was G&T right? Would Sony shut the tap of free demos and go pay to play only in the face of their pledge not to?
Nay, NAY, friends; Sony has decided to charge for a platform to bring demos and betas that would not have come to the platform - along with providing MUST SEE FUTURE LOOKS*, and high-quality, informative, unbiased video content in stunning high definition**
*advertisements are unskippable because you, in your foolishness, may feel the ill-advised urge to skip content that MAY CHANGE YOUR GAMING LIFE
Lame. You're lame Threepio! How could you do that to yourself!
In Threepio's defense, if Sony sony shat in a box and offered it for sale, I doubt, he'd admit to buying it.
[edit] haha top of the page to you!
Are you kidding? Threepio would not only admit to buying it, he'd tell us all that actually, he's getting off easy, because he wasn't getting the piss that Microsoft was offering as standard. And actually, since shit is more substantial, it's better value.
It's also superior to nintendo's cupcake because at least Sony's selling a finished product.

According to neoGAF, the QORE SOCOM beta key only gets you into the beta two weeks after the public beta.

"Qore gives access to the public SOCOM beta two weeks after the public beta launches. There are other ways to get into the public beta beforehand, like the upcoming preorder program, so don't worry about the ratio of non-SOCOM fans to SOCOM fanatics."

So it looks like demos are indeed free outside of Qore - and what you're getting is access to specific, event driven demos along with access to betas.
Can we get the thread title changed please? Also, those who were freaking out about this all week can commence relaxing and posting their "oh, it's cool, forget I said anything" statements around nowish.
I have subscribed to Qore. Please let me know how I'm progressing in my aim to kill gaming for you all!
So all of the demos on Qore are available for free on PSN?
Yeah I'm still not sure on this. Clarification anyone?

There are a pool of demos that everyone will get.
There will also be demos that are exclusive to Qore for a time. At the time that these are made available on Qore they won't be available on the PSN. From what I've been told this won't include multi-platform titles that are available on the 360 to avoid demo imbalance.
There are ways to access betas (lotteries, pre-orders). Beta access will be guarenteed with your Qore subscription.
There is content that will remain exclusive to Qore subs, but from what I've been told it's going to be things like themes, gamerpics, and video content.
In short, this was 28 pages of angst for very little reason.

I found the demo for the Clank game on this issue of Qore for free online, though I don't know how many demos are on the issue. Let me know if I missed anything and I'll check.
Edit: Threepio, wait, what? There are demos that are STILL limited to Qore? And you're still speculating based on absolutely no public statements from Sony that they'll go free eventually?
Thanks for asking me to change the OP based on nothing.
Yeah, only the dumbest (although let's be honest, that doesn't say much) expected all demos to be exclusive to Quore. However, there are demos that, on a platform that promised these things for free, are now locked to paying customers.
And yet you still fail to see how this is contradictory.
That's coming from a conversation with the folks at Sony of Canada.
There will be exclusive access to some demos. Eventually those demos will move to the free space, from what I've been told. If you feel the need to refer to it as "paying for demos" that's fine; really you're paying for (*sigh* here we go) a downloadable rich media package including exclusive video content, themes, gamerpics, access to betas and early access to demos.
*shrug* it's really in how you want to refer to it. Your title for this thread is a little Fox-newsish. (I don't mean that offensively, it's just oversimplifying something).
Is Qore a terrible thing? YES. Unequivocally, it is. It is here to kill gaming and will probably accomplish its goal. I hate you all so my subscription was all but confirmed the moment the outcry rose up.
I sincerely hope that this doesn't become accepted by the populace or I will have wasted $25.

Only the dumbest? It was a very prevalent thought yesterday; you must have a low opinion of most of the posters here.
From what's been bandied about, they're using the income from Qore to fund demos that we wouldn't have seen; so your second statement is incorrect.

Honestly, it's not the end of the world, but if you can't see how some people might be at least a bit annoyed by the move, then you've really got the Sony blinders on this time.
Again, your scenario about the demo makes sense, but Sony's too hard to predict nowadays to assume anything, plus they've said lots of things that apparently haven't come to pass (pricing of a certain heavily-advertised bundle springs to mind).

Conversation I had yesterday with a friend of mine from Sony Canada. It's kind of my go-to source when shit like this rolls downhill. Yeah, I'll grant that some people have overreacted and that the whole thing will likely result in the "well, that's a bit annoying" Live's habit of posting demos a week early to paid subscribers has gotten.
And that Sony's PR department could stand to be a mite more organized and clear. I miss the well-oiled machine it was during the PS2 days (when I was on the receiving end, professionally).
Given what it must be like to write those post NPD press releases every month, I'm expecting Sony's PR people to crack ad start releasing items about how the aliens on Alpha Centauri are planning to invade Earth to steal the PS3's technology.
So compared to my expectations, this Qore stuff is pretty good.

Which is to say that yes, I'd have to see some sort of proof before I actually believed that the demos released through Qore wouldn't otherwise exist. Some might find this unreasonable, sure, but I think it's at least equally as reasonable as taking the claim at face value.

It's not too crazy. I've heard numerous times over the years that "a demo isn't financially viable", because it does take time (and hence, money) to break out a piece of the game and create a demo. Often, doing so just isn't cheap or easy enough, so I can see Sony potentially throwing some money at devs to make demos happen that might not otherwise.
As for Qore itself, I like the presentation, but I'm little annoyed that there's unskippable advertising on a product I pay for, and that at least for this first issue, the bulk of the content is the same as, or very similar to, things I can get online for free.
