Call me old fashioned (and perhaps a cheater) but I love the bullet time and third person mod. So much fun to just kick it into super strength during bullet time and leap into the air to take out 5 guys, then land in speed mode and dodge bullets while running up to the last guys and taking them down with punches and chokes.

I want bullet time, plz ty.

Bullet time and over the shoulder camera.

It's a pretty cool mod because they are added to the suit selection wheel.

I remember being able to have 3rd person camera in the level editor

I bet they had plans to have such an option in the game but scrapped it somewhere along the line.

Oh, and if you haven't tried the level editor, please go and try it right now. It's so easy to make your own skirmishes with all the tutorials on the net now. <3

The thing I didn't get is that it has everything and nobody seems to like it.

I really didn't get that, until I realised that the kind of people who want to be held by the hand don't want to wait half a game to get to it, they'll charge the installations like they do in half life 2 a bunch of times, get frustrated, and wander off.
Whereas the ones who loooooooooooooooove sandboxes will get suddenly blueballed by the hold the hand action movie segments at the end and be all man this bitch wont put out.

If they'd just switched it around somehow, people would have loved this damn game.

I really hope that's the stance they take with the expansion. I hope you go back in, punch some aliens in the face, then it clears out back into the sandboxy stuff for the end of the game.

The problem is that the sandboxes weren't quite sandboxy enough (Farcry 2 looks like a nice solution to this), and the alien sections were completely, utterly mediocre in every possible way and didn't live up to other games that were all about that sort of thing.

Weren't quite sandboxy enough as compared to what.

A lot of people say this, to which I must ask. If you know a sandboxy game with combat better than Crysis, for the love of god tell me. I'd really love to play it.

Don't hold out on me. It doesn't hold up, so there must be something better. I want to know what that game is. It's next on my buy list.

The alien sections were more impressive and jawdropping to me than halo one and two. I haven't played halo 3, and I haven't played gears. Maybe there's some awesome sections in there I missed?

STALKER does the whole FPS sandbox thing much better.

And yeah the alien section were jaw-dropping, it's a gorgeous game. I just found the actual gunplay, tactics, etc to be relatively unfulfilling. The game was built for fighting humans, that's what it should have stuck to.

Sorry to just butt into this thread, but wasn't it announced somewhere that Warhead will be taking place duirng the time Psycho was split up from the main char? But I just can't remember where that was, I suspect that it would have been before the shit hit the fan, so we get to kill more koreans, but can't remember.

It goes from right after you capture the harbor to right before you get to the aircraft carrier

    I've played both.

There is no way STALKERS actual combat is better than Crysis. I'm really sorry about this dude, but you are being affected by the atmosphere of stalker and the rpg elements of it and forgetting the way the combat worked. Crysis has so many more options to kill mans.
When I say sandbox, I'm actually referring to the freedom in combat, not running back and forth doing quests. I understand this is a confusing term, so I'll use freeform combat from now on. Alright.

You can stealth versus aliens, out run them, pick them up and choke them, throw them through buildings, and punch them to death.

It wasn't that they disobeyed the rules of the rest of the game. It's that the ways to trick them and play with them were slightly different from humans. You could still fuck with them big time. You were still a god versus them.

I agree as well. Stalkers combat is horrible until you get the later better weaponry, then the game becomes actually fun. The ways of killing things in Crysis far outdo those in Stalker however. There is nothing like killing soldiers by throwing turtles and chickens at them.

I love stalker btw. I'm currently addicted to it. But it's because of its atmosphere and the tenseness of it all and the fact I'm a lowly human running around with one gun and never know when the enemy will jump out.

I love both games, so I don't think I'm being unduly biased here.

    Ditto here.

STALKER had a better storyline and incorporated RPG elements very well; Crysis is a very good shooter with a lot more options to kill people.

Imagine a CRYSIS soldier being sent into The Zone........

Some guy wants to do a straight trade my old computer that's been collecting dust for a year since I've built my new computer minus the power supply, HDD, and DVD drive that I scavenged off of it for a new Nvidia GeForce 260 Superclocked Edition from his work.

Actually I thought they were cool as hell. Up until that point you're a complete badass, able to punch through fucking walls and leap over buildings, turn invisible, and run so fast that if you ran into another person they would die. Suddenly you meet not one but several Koreans who can do the exact same shit as you and they want to fucking kill you. It's a pretty awesome feeling, going from godlike to plebeian (or from hunter to hunted as Lucky Cynic puts it).

They're not that hard to kill. They have the same weaknesses as you, and don't heal as fast. You just have to be sneaky.

The problem is that the AI wasn't quite good enough, so they actually just run through some fairly basic scripts. Easy enough that you can pretty much just grenade them to death by trapping them against trees/walls.

I tried this. It didn't work. They run around, take cover, move from their cover, and shoot back.

How powerful is your cpu? AI routines take cpu cycles after all, and I'm not getting these problems. So I'm only asking to compare.

Q6700, so I don't think it's that, and I was playing on Delta. Pretty much if you throw one grenade at them they'll try and go running around and out of the player's view frustum. So if they're in front of you throw one grenade to your left, and they'll run right, and then a second grenade right in front of them, and they'll pretty much just run in place and get blown up. The worst part is that the 'taking cover' bit interferes with the 'shooting back' bit, so they'll stop firing at you while trying to escape.

They've also got scripts as to where to use their strength jumps, so it's pretty easy to anticipate when they'll do it and throw/shoot there as they do.

Awesome, I appreciate it. I'll probably pick up both, I loved the first one for each and I'll probably enjoy these as well.

Also, if Warhead is getting released latter in America then where's it getting released first? Europe? Just curious since usually other countries get the shaft regarding games.

I'm describing how awesome that would be.

I forget both companies are based in Europe, aren't they? That would explain it then. :D

It makes sense; why wouldn't the USA send in Delta Force if the chernobyl zone went haywire....hell, Ukraine would probably ask for the help.

    I can see it now.

The bloodsucker roars, jumps out at you, you charge it and punch it so hard it rebounds off the wall.

You turn and the second one is running away from you. Yipe yipe yipe.

If anything it would be MORE awesome.

Well. I want to play it.

Being attacked by dogs? Pick up one and use it to bludgeon the other to death.

Mutant jumps out at you? Punch it back into wherever it came from and then throw a grenade down there.

    It would be great.

So initial reviews are coming in and they seem to be pretty positive. Eurogamer follows:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=235563
To end on a tenuous analogy, Crysis Warhead is probably the Back to the Future II of videogames: rather than totally transform the story and setting, it returns to the original narrative, exploring it from a different angle; once again, the results are sharper, meaner, and have a lot more for you to think about (although, thankfully, there are no dodgy CGI sharks or Elisabeth Shue performances). The original Crysis may have given you the basic tools, but Warhead allows you to really use them, and while its previous titles made it clear that Crytek knew technology like few others, it's this strange off-shoot Warhead that proves it's no slouch when it comes to level design and set-pieces either.

It's made up my mind anyway. I was a bit on the fence about whether to get CW on release or wait a bit (the pre-release talk of changing the gameplay had me worried), but that review actually made me a bit more keen for it.

The fact that it's only £14.99 helped me make up my mind.
