Unprecedented Support For The Dragon Clan

For those who don't follow the Legend of the Five Rings storyline, brief update before the post: The Scorpion and Dragon Clans have been strong allies for hundreds of years. A Scorpion Woman bore the child of the Dragon Clan's founder. Their Champion bears Scorpion blood, and many, many instances have shown the strength of the Alliance. The alliance is under pressure right now(The Scorpion may or may not have tried to frame the Dragon for an imperial assassination). Talk of a war is being bantered about by both clans' players. Also: The Scorpion's Shosuro family is comprised of a strong Ninja Demographic.

To the Point: Why the hell would PA side with the Dragon in a Dragon Vs. Scorpion conflict? It may have been incidental, but the Dragon Clan slaughtering Ninja sure seems to parallel a possible future for the Alliance. Maybe it's blind partisanism, but obviously the Scorpion would take the Dragon down in a war.

I thought this was a Ninja Gaiden 2 thread and wanted to be supportive but this is just wrong.

I haven't followed the L5R storyline in a number of years, but unless things have seriously changed, the Dragon Clan fortress is at the top of a mountain, they sit on a gigantic pile of gold, their monks carry the power of raw dragon's blood, their swordsmen are only second in skill to the Crane (and they fight dirtier), and though not terribly well-liked in the empire they certainly have more allies than the Scorpion.

Unless the Scorpion start tapping into the Shadowlands taint or something they wouldn't have a chance in open war.

And yes I am an uber-nerd.

Edit: I forgot to ask - does Dragon have time to prepare? :P

The Kitsuki are running around Rokugan right now, the Mirumoto are going to war with the Dark Oracle of Fire, Togashi Satsu's going Crazy, and the Hitomi and Hoshi families have been retattooed by Satsu to form one monk family of Togashi. A lot's changed since Toturi was killed. The Dragon are a bit different now that Togashi's sacrifice has been realized and their original purpose has been fulfilled.

Still, even if the Dragon did win, the Scorpion would just fade away. They wouldn't need commercials.

I read a couple of those books years ago, but I must admit I still have no idea what the fuck is going on here.

Cliff Notes: It looks like the Dragon Clan and Scorpion Clans are probably going to war. The Dragon/Scorpion Alliance is going to have a brief civil war before returning to the standard civility. On both clan boards, we read the latest PA comic and thought it was a strange coincidence that it was about the Dragon Clan killing a bunch of Ninja. The fact that it was about Ninja Gaiden 2 was ignored due to the fact that it is looking pretty likely that the Dragon Clan is going to swoop down soon and make some Ninja Babies orphans. I brought up the amusing coincidence to see if anyone on the PA forums saw that strange, unintentional parallel.

Now look here, this would be much more appropriate in the Critical Failures forum, as it has everything to do with RPGs, CCGs, and all that general nonsense.

With that aside, the main L5R storyline is pretty nonsensical nowadays. I just pretend the everything was super happy fun after clan war.
