This is the thread for discussing the story in MGS4. This is NOT the general MGS4 thread. You have been warned.

The strategy guide was released early so some story spoilers came out with it.

Big Boss not being dead seems pretty stupid to me. The spoilers I saw makes it also sound like Big Boss is more of a hero.
Raiden dieing seems pretty predictable in retrospect considering ninjas always die in MGS games.
The Vamp having nanomachines that automatically heal him somehow breaks my suspension of disbelief.
The Patriots being AI makes me really miss the good old days when secret shadow governments could consist of humans.

    About Big Boss: seems like he just comes back for some sort of flashback or something and that he isn't really alive. There isn't any solid information regarding his role yet other then that he somehow tells Snake about the Patriots.

    Regarding Raiden: he might not die. Apparently the dude who got the game early and is posting all the new pictures and spoilers said that it seemed like Raiden died but his body disappeared so he may have survived after all.

    Vamp is a douche and I don't care how he dies as long as he does.

    It doesn't seem like all the Patriots are AI yet, haha.

    Apparently. Pretty much the only thing that isn't cleared up yet is the capacity of BB in the game, since the corpse is actually that of Solidus.

    Vamp being healed by nanomachines break your suspension of disbelief? That's pretty much one of the biggest potential applications of nanomachines, although it's obviously in the realm of science fiction for now, I would wager it can and will happen in the not-to-distant future

    Who believed that? Anyone who played MGS2 knows Vamp isn't a vampire, from the very apparent fact that you have a sniper fight with him in broad daylight.

    I really hope to God that the whole Big Boss being alive thing just applies to the past. It would be bad, from a story point, if he were still alive. I feel it would ruin his character, as well as the whole of MGS3.

    He is alive. The jist of it from what I understand, he never was actually killed, the Patriots recovered his body, his DNA used in the SOP program and then was basically put into a coma. He gets out of it at the end of the game and that's when he meets up with Snake to basically give him a run down of what happened.

    The whole nanomachines thing - seriously, that's one of the most feasible things in this series. Not entirely possible, it's just more likely.

    Femtotech might be small enough to have that effect... I wonder if it's just Kojima misunderstanding the scale of nanotech...

    He is alive. The jist of it from what I understand, he never was actually killed, the Patriots recovered his body, his DNA used in the SOP program and then was basically put into a coma. He gets out of it at the end of the game and that's when he meets up with Snake to basically give him a run down of what happened.
    I heard that he received FOXDIE from Snake, and Ocelot pretended Solidus' bodies was Big Boss' body in order to trick Eva into killing herself. Eva saw the body burning, assumed it was Big Boss' body, and burned up with him. I'm not sure if it is true.

    About Ocelot,
    Are you telling me that he planned out pretty much every event since the first MGS story, planned to get his arm cut off, pretended to be possessed by Snake, and got killed by Snake in order to destroy the Patriots? What is he, that kid from Death Note?

    He purposely receives FOXDIE from Snake at the end of the game.

    this is what I think
    Ocelot helped creates what is known as the patriots today, realizes his mistake and in MGS he plans out how to take them down. I'm sure he's working for someone. in MGS3 we saw him triple cross people. He doesn't care about anything other than his own being and what he thinks the world should be.

    He was probably retconed into just pretending to be an amoral bastard. He respected Big Boss in MGS3 so I don't think he is that evil.
