Wii Disk Read Errors (getting drive replaced under warrantee changed nothing)
Hey guys, I just realized my warrantee on my Wii might be up (I can't remember when I bought it all or what month even) and for some time now I've been having to re-insert disks to get them to read. Around January I sent the Wii in to get repaired, and the letter said they couldn't reproduce the problem, but put a new disk drive in, but I still got read errors every now and then and now it's getting frustrating. Happens with all my games, though most frequently RE4 and Metroid Prime 3.
Generally the problem is fixed completely by putting the Wii vertical (which is goddamn annoying since I use it to play cube games as much as anything).
What the fuck is the deal here? Should I try to get it repaired again? How the fuck is this happening with a brand new disk drive?
Well if you got it repaired in January, they extended your warranty till next January so you're still under one. Send it out again and explain the situation. I had to do the same thing once before, and left the tech a long note explaining when/how it happens, and what happens when I do it.
They called me up to verify it, and it worked like a champ later on.
Big N is totally awesome support. Get them to fix it. They love you.
My sister-in-law's boyfriend bought a used one and it was out of warranty and the bluetooth started fritzing, and he got a fix like it was under warranty and they extended it a year. They'll fix yours I'm sure.
Though urahonky's right. Include a note. <3<3<3<

Be sure to draw Mario on casing and get it autographed by people before sending it in with your note. It will assuredly be fixed and come back bare of all artistry. :P
Also, and more seriously, if you live near Redmond, WA go to Nintendo's HQ and drop it off for repair at the Customer Service Center. You'll get it back the same day, possibly within the same hour.
Cool. Actually even if they didn't extend it and I bought it last May (most likely) I think I'm still under warrantee due to registering it on nintendo.com for like an extra 90 days or something.
Just back up everything you can, I recently had mine repaired and even after including a note and talking to them on the phone about it they seemingly didn't try very hard to restore my flash memory. The games could still read and write saves so I'm not sure why they weren't capable of that kind of service.
Fortunately the most time consuming save (Smash Brothers Brawl) actually has a Datel power save that you can copy to your SD card and onto your system, but re-registering Wii and friend codes doesn't sound like fun.

One caveat I've noted about Wii repair is that if the console is replaced, they don't seem to have a way to repair your Mii's "ownership", either that or they often forget to make the neccesary edits.

Fortunately you can fix that with stuff like this and a Bluetooth adapter:
