I want to cruise to Ensenada

My mom's 50th burfday is coming up in a few months, and the idea struck me this morning to get her on a nice cruise to Ensenada Mexico later this year. But neither I nor anyone else in my family or that I know have dealt with booking a cruise, and I want to dodge any gotchas and/or pitfalls (or avoid going in the first place if it is a bad idea)

I hope you folks can answer some questions while I do my own research (and probably answer most for myself), or tell me of Shit To Do In Ensenada besides, or perhaps including, getting hilariously drunk

- Do I need a passport (survey says no so far BUT)
- Are any cruise lines/boats horrible pits of depravity to be avoided, or any to be highly recommended
- Are cabin conditions as cramped looking as they seem to be from pictures
- Is Ensenada a tourist trap, shithole, or plain old city (so far I suspect the first)
- When is a good time of year to go? I was thinking early October, since it can't really be any earlier than that for logistical reasons
- Average list price seems to be about $330/person for two-person oceanview cabins; I know there's an extra $10/person/day or so in fuel, but what other hidden gotchas are there
- Any other thoughts?

      Yes
    • DO NOT GO ON WITH Carnival... Princess cruises are usually classy
    • Yes... get a balcony if possible.. more expensive but niiiiiice
    • yes... most cruises have travel pacakges where they drive you somewhere else... I've done the wine tour and La Bufadora which are bothe pretty neat
    • Whenever
    • Depends

It looks like Princess doesn't have any short-term cruises (like Friday-Monday), only week-long deals

Which I can't afford, and she wouldn't like anyway

(edit) How is Royal Caribbean, they seem to be popular

Forget Ensanada, take her hunting in Escanaba Michigan!

It's not enough! I need more! Nothing seems to satisfy!
I don't want it! I just need it! To breath, to feel, to know I'm alive!

    I didn't when I went to Nasau/Bahamas

Do you really plan on being inside your cabin? This is a non-issue.

About $400 is what you should expect to pay.

I went on the Sovereign of the Seas Royal Caribbean cruise and had a blast. I highly recommend it. Hope your grandma is a fun old gal.
