Graduation dress code

Howdy. So I'm going to my girlfriend's high school graduation today; it's a fairly big school and it's in a local convention center. My question is, I've never been to a graduation, and I rarely have occassion to dress up. Thus far I've obtained a nice button up polo and a pair of dressy polyester pants - my question is simple.

Would a jacket be too much? I don't know much about the dress code for these things, but I was thinking polo + jacket + dress shoes + new dressy pants would be perfect. I just don't want to overdress and look like a douchebag.

Thanks.

At the graduations I've been to the "dress code" has varied between wrinkled t-shirt and jeans to really spiffy suit - at the same ceremony. Essentially, you just need to wear what makes you feel comfortable watching your girlfriend graduate. Obviously, you want to dress respectfully (most of the t-shirt and jeans folks were other or recently graduated students), but I wouldn't worry too much about a jacket being too much.

When in doubt, a semi-business attire with a polo or button down shirt should pass.

Personally I'd say a jacket would be a bit much for a young person at a high school graduation. What you've mentioned you have sounds fine without the jacket. Though if you're concerned, you could always wear the jacket and just take it off and carry it if it seems too dressy for the situation.

I'd rock the jacket. If anything, it shows a level of respect towards the graduates.
