So I'm trying to type this trail head in Malibu, CA into my GPS, however, the coordinates given are not in the same format as my GPS (Garmin Nuvi 200)

The coordinates given on the website are

Lat:34.11161
Lon:-118.92643

My GPS Inputs are

N: Degrees and then minutes (so where i am right now, Palmdale, is 34 degrees and 32.897 minutes)
W: Degrees and then minutes (118 degrees 4.918 minutes)

How do I convert the trail head coordinates into something my GPS can understand?

    algebra.
    For the latitude's minutes:
    11161    =    x
    100000        60

    Wow, that is really cool information that I need to remember.

    I once ended up on the wrong side of a river in Scotland due to screwing up the decimal -> degrees/minutes thing.
    I was a long walk in the rain to correct the error.

    I ended up downloading this when I got home, but knowing how to do it on a scrap of paper is really useful,
    Thanks.

    Yeah, simple stuff. If you want it put an easier way, just take everything right of the decimal and multiply it by 60.

    0.11161 * 60 = 6.6966 minutes.
