So, I've just found out about alternative hip-hop and jazz rap. Am I allowed to be pissed at gangsta rap?
nope!
It would ruin their tediously focus grouped tough guy personas if we got mad back at them.
When Baggins looks in the mirror in a few months and isn't wearing trueschool adidas and a backpack, he'll thank us for advocating a broader view of hip hop aesthetics than one team vs. another.
So how's the antipop / tribe marathon going so far, Bagginses?

OFWGKTA are performing on the 30th here in Amsterdam.
Tickets are FREE!!!
Goddamn excited, I'll be pressing F5 each second when the tickets are available.
Ugh, OFWGKTA are the worst. At least when Eminem did the whole HAHA RAPE IS FUNNY thing (TEN YEARS AGO), you could kinda let it slide because he was also super talented and had a force of personality that couldn't really be ignored. Odd Future is just rehashed amateur-hour trying-too-hard shit.

That's odd.
I find Tyler the Creator to be charismatic and talented as fuck. To each his own, I guess.

I hope they grow out of it soon. Tyler the Creator has some really clever rhymes and displays a real talent but yes their shtick gets incredibly old.
However after seeing that Earl Sweatshirt video that shall not be posted (it's on youtube) it's not all shtick. They are kind of like the CKY guys i'm guessing.
But yeah the one trick pony thing makes OFWGKTA get pretty meh pretty fast. Also I hear they were really very bad live.
So I rather dig the new Atmosphere album. The Overcast! crowd is gonna hate it, but they should have learned a while ago that Slug doesn't really carry it like that anymore. Hell, we're probably never going to get anything as aggressive as God Loves Ugly from him again. Not a bad thing though - traded in the scrappy stuff (and the quick clever wordplay that goes along with it) for really thoughtfully produced storytelling (still in his style) on a level that he's really mastering at this point in his career. Good stuff. Below is one of the better songs on the album.

I thought that DJ Khaled was a joke character the first time I saw one of his videos.
I've since heard that his 'thing' is to somehow bring a lot of artists to be featured on his tracks. I suppose one simply has to pretend he isn't himself in the songs.

Never seen Dose talked about in this thread. Pretty interesting talent. He was really good in the incredibly pretentious Deep Puddle Dynamics collective ... thing.
I've never heard the puddle dynamics thing (or anything besides that one album).
He does spend a fair amount of time making snippy comments about ...pretty much all of hip hop outside of Deep Backpacker territory, which was what led to me getting tired of it the first time.
But now my nostalgia and current overexposure to gun chat MCs has me in the mood for busting out the ol' album.

absurdly catchy
why can't I just have a simple hook, three good verses and none of the supermanufactured pop bits
Pluto was a planet and I'll never forget
This has a touch of some M.I.A. bidnizz but with mainstream direction and production.
Of course I approve.
