[Game On!] Nexus War 2.0 - Brand new PA faction!

Prettier Than Urban Dead

Yeah yeah, some of you have played this before. Well, Nexus War 2.0 was just released about a month or two ago and let's see if we can get some kind of PA presence.

First, basic info.

What the hell is Nexus War?
First off, it's a browser-based MMO. You'll spend maybe 15-20 minutes per day playing. Maybe. It's also class-based, meaning you pick a class or role or whatever and you get a bunch of skills in that class, and become your own private arsenal. It's also HEAVILY PVP, meaning about 80% of things you do involve killing other people or enabling other people to kill other people better.

You're either an angel, a demon, or some transcendent human guy with super awesome magic powers or what have you, and you're fighting to determine what the next universe will be like. Will it be constant pain? Will everyone have free will? Will there be an overwhelming sense of law and order (that's basically the evil, neutral, and good views respectively)?

Why should I play this?
Because it takes about 10-15 minutes out of your day and is pretty flipping cool for a BBMMO.

What's PA's presence in the game?
Nearly non-existent at the moment. There was once a faction called the Wang Collectors, but they changed into the Knights of Arcadia and now only about 3 people from the initial rush are still around. Most players quit out when things started stagnating about a year and a half ago, and bad decisions are made.

So what's the game's status like now?
The game just updated officially to NEXUS WAR 2.0 about a month and a half or so ago. With the update came a completely streamlined interface, new endgame material, tons of new skills and items, and three GIANT areas. There's also three or four giant monster things that people band together and kill once in a while. And one giant change: characters will now respawn within 10 squares of their stronghold (if you don't know what this means, that's fine, keep reading).

Ok, you have me... for now. What do I do?
If you are new: Make an account and your first character. Pick your first skill. Off the bat you should decide what you want to do: wanna shoot spells, or wanna hit people (or shoot them, or stab them, or claw them, or look at them with EYEBEAMS)? We'll talk more about your path in the Nexus after you kill some people. Or maybe you dont wanna kill, you just wanna make armor and weapons and enchant them and stuff? Whatever, do what you want, just take Repair Item if that's what you wanna do. Or if you wanna heal people and be all nice, take First Aid.

If you are returning: Remember your account name and password? if not, that's ok, just request the info and get it. Then log in and um... well, just do what you wanna do I guess.

Note: if you are making a new account, your first character will get something like 200 AP (action points, everything you do costs at least 1 AP, and you regain 1 AP every 15 minutes) so feel free to use them to dick around get your bearings.

What's all these faction things? Castles? Strongholds? Wha?
The meat of the gameplay is getting together with people and raiding your enemies strongholds. A group of people banded together for this purpose is called a "faction." If you have a faction, you can have a stronghold, which is basically a building that only faction-members can get into (easily).

Does PA have a faction?
We did, but for all intents and purposes it's defunct. Someone needs to make a new one. First we need to decide something though: do we wanna be angels, demons, or transcendent human guys? Note, transcendent human guys can still be in angel or demon factions, but we can choose to JUST be human guys. But that's like playing on hard mode (for reasons I'll get into later).

Resources:
http://www.users.on.net/~rabbithole/ubermap/ - The Uber map. If you're making a new character, all you have to worry about is Valhalla. That's where you are.
http://forums.nexuswar.com/ - the forums. It's like Mos Eisley. I recommend ignoring them unless you just really wanna role-play or something.
http://wiki.nexuswar.com/index.php/Main_Page - OH SO VALUABLE. Take a look at all the different classes when you get a chance to decide what you wanna be. Remember, if you make a mistake you can always just make a new character.

So go up there and click the banner and START PLAYING ALREADY

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS

WE HAVE A NAME!
Keepers of the Necrowombicon
WE'RE ALSO GOING EVIL (Eventually, when this spot we're on hits 500.) We're located at 16,44. Come hang out in the building, and we'll stick the SH down soon.

Once we get the faction created, then whoever is leading this thing can start to invite people to it

TL;DR - Nexus War is updated, it's now worth playing again, come play, we'll make a new faction and kill some bitches

    Oh, and by the way

    you WILL die

    often.

But pretty much the only penalty for death is a "random" respawn, and that will hardly be random once we get a stronghold set down. Some of your stuff may also break, but that's a low chance of that happening.

So if you die, that's ok. Shrug it off and respawn. Don't worry too much about it.

OK I'm gonna make us a temporary faction until we get our shit together, just so we can have a stronghold.

edit: we are, temporarily, the Keepers of the Necrowombicon, and we're going evil.

    for now.

until people decide what we want to be and our faction name and by god i'm NOT leading this

If you find books, you can read them. Just go into your inventory and click "read." You may get XP, you may not. You may also find spellz.

Oh you know, this and that. Anyone else still around?

I guess if we're evil I'll have to make a new character. Or break down the stronghold wall and walk in.

Oh and for anyone starting, NWTool beats trying to click the little attack button when you're fighting someone, unless the system has changed dramatically since the last time I played.

Ah, alright. There was some reading-type skill in the beginning during character creation, but I guess that just meant they threw some books into your inventory to give you a head start.

Not really. Some of the Old Guard are still in KoA, but it's not really the PA faction.

Also, I think NWTool will still work. Uncertain though.

My character from two years ago is still around, just have to reset the password. Those early Nexus War days were pretty interesting. Going from a rag tag group to a powerful force, the early raids, barely escaping the slaughter at the stronghold, fighting my way to our base to paradise, the boredom while we were in paradise, etc.

You'll need the skill Sense Morality.

What you can also do is just watch your morality when you hit someone. If your MO goes up, the person is evil. Down, and that person is either neutral or good.
Never played this before but it sounds fun. Name's Mean Joe Green and I took engineering.

    http://www.nexuswar.com/characters/v...acterID=132916
Engineering is actually really tough to level up with. Takes a lot of AP to do just one action with it. I mean, it's not impossible and your character is by NO MEANS broken, but you'll hit level 2 slower than just about everyone else.

Unless they're leveling up by reading. Then they can expect to hit level 2 in a week or so.

Oh, and by the way, the skill Search just gives you better find rates. Research just UPs the rate of getting experience from reading.

    Well.

    There's a new interface.
Three new planes, one of them giant (think Purgatorio sized, but nearly all of it is land)
CULTS, THEY ACTUALLY EXIST AND ARE THERE
    Lots of skills
    Reworked infusion rules
Faction bonuses now only apply on your infused space
    Honor is reworked
Raiding feels completely different, there's a "flag shield" now, so someone can walk in and not even have to kill anyone, but can just take out the shield around the flag and gank it (but the shield's HP is tied to the faction members in the hold, so if you kill everyone the shield goes away like normal)
Wizards have staffs now, and giant awesome Breath of the Dead Child-like AoEs.

    Heh. Avatars are randomly assigned.

Unless you donate and get "credits", which you can then use to lock your avatar to the current one, and if you die you'll still be that one, or you can get a new avatar from the character store.

Zimfan you're right. It is a bit more complicated than UD. But it's also better. It's deeper and just all around more organized.

I'm rather jaded with the game at the moment, truth be told. I somehow ascended to being the leader of one of the more... sedentary factions. The problem is that we're evil and aside from the recent stain, it's getting a bit tiresome to see all the groupthink and "this is the proper way to play the game and we're completely set in our ways," especially from the Paradise factions that it's really starting to become a chore more than anything else.
