CJ (or anyone else that can answer this really), can you offer any advice on the grid system in the first Persona? I still seem to be having trouble with it. I haven't played that much yet, just past the police station, but I've tried a lot of different configurations and I can't seem to find an optimal one.

Everyone's weapon has its own range. I've always found that a "T" works really well, with the actual formation being:
Main Mark Nate
Brad
Mary
If you went with Alana instead of Brad, she can be in the same spot. Ellen is a bit trickier, but putting her in between Mark and Nate should generally work well. Chris is just a mess, since his weapon has such a tiny range, but putting him where Mark is, Mark where Nate is, Nate where Main is, and Main between Mark and Chris will work okay.
But really, just put Mary in the last row and give her Halo, and you'll be basically indestructible.

Wow. Thanks. I feel dumb now.
Like I said I'm still at the beginning of the game. Half my crew has a mop or a scalpel, and I kept trying out a sort of W formation.
Just coming off of SMT I and II, I really like this game. I read the Gamespot review from 1997, and it was bitching about getting lost in the first person dungeons, but honestly after those old SNES relics I don't see what the problem is.

The dungeons aren't really bad at all, since you have an automap. Just a question of a lot of trial and error.
I'm only at the second episode, but Devil Summoner is a whole lot of stylish fun. The combat is a bit simple now, though I see that it will get more complicated later on. My only complaint is that the basic attacks might have used some sort of simple customization just for variety. I hope that the new DS game will improve on this.
So I must say Ahriman was quite the bastard, I mean...he wasnt...HARD per se...just...Apocalypse followed up by Megadolaon was just absolute bullshit in a can. I hate him. Sure I beat him on my first try but holy shit was it nerve wracking at the end when I survived thanks to Endure, had 1 hp left, revived my healer, went to Dantes turn and he crit the bastard for 1500 dmg and killed him. I was SO very happy.
The whole fight was basically him using Apocalypse, and then me hoping he just regular attacked either me or my void physical guy, and then healing with my healer. Luckily he went along with that pretty damn good until that last attack where he just destroyed my healer and me and we all almost died. Thank you Dante and your stylish way of always seeming to get critical hits when I want them.
Now Im moving on, and this dungeon is sort of annoying...But atleast I reached another save point and was able to leave and restock up on supplies.

Dante's not bad--in fact, I'd go as far as saying he excels when it comes to fighting random mobs--though he's not particularly good when it comes to boss battles.
Except oddly, the graveyard fights--Provoke is nice for that.

Well from what I hear you shouldnt use him on Lucifer, so I atleast plan on switching him out for that, of course...thats just what I hear, if thats true lemme know cause uhhh...I dont think Ill want to redo all them battles all over again to re-fight that mother fucker.
But so far hes worked out DAMN well for me, and actually he was quite useful on the boss, I mean, since I couldnt really attack too much I had him attack every turn for a good 1200 damage, it worked out good. Hes not failed me yet and Ive used him since I got him so Ill keep him in for now.

Well, you can't fuse Dante to learn new abilities and pierce is pretty much mandatory for the Lucifer battle. I went in with Metatron, Beelzebub, and someone else whose name I've since forgotten.

Dante stayed in my group all the way through. He's a solid party member.
(Though I never did go to the effort of recruiting the likes of Beezlebub and Metatron.)
Dante gets a skill that basically works like Auto-Life and he can also get a 50% to all attacks as his last skill to learn. He works wonders in the final dungeon.
Yeah Ive been using him through the final dungeon, also, how would I go about getting Beelzubub and Metatron and all that? Sounds like it could be a bitch but...Im always up for a challenge...>.>
And I do have pierce, obviously, very useful, Im not very excited for the last battle cause...it seems like a bitch, not to mention if I die I have to re fight the bosses again, Im level...83 at the moment, I think Ill want to get higher, but Ive only killed Ahriman so far, I stopped afterward to play some Battlefield, so I WILL get higher, but, thats just what Im at.

You have to complete the whole Kalpa place and then the first magatama will start working again. Its the last skill on it. It works by well...it will randomly decide to ignore armor sometimes when you attack and youll deal damage like they have no defense....Im pretty sure...you cant choose when it works though.
When it works though I do deal a lot more damage than I normally would...or so it seems...
Basically NEEDED to fight Lucifer....but again, thats something Im told, I dont know if its true. If it is, hwell, I have it so.

I didn't have Pierce on anybody other than the Demi-Fiend when I fought Lucifer, but my entire playthrough of SMT: Nocturne was a frustrating experience in learning curves hitting me in the junk with a hammer, straight from the start when I said, "I'm awesome at RPGs, Hard mode? Pshyeah right."
Pierce will always ignore physical resistence - I MAY be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure it ignores "Phys Repel" as well.
Well like I said, youll atleast need pierce on one guy to fight Lucifer, and for me itl be ...well...ME, I dont know how to get pierce for anyone else so yeah...should be fun. Its pretty useful.

Also, I felt the same way lol, but Nocturne has sadly kicked my ass many times and ...blah...this is one game where death actually makes a difference.

If I remember right, there's a demon you can get from the depths of the Amala that also has Pierce, and you can use that demon to fuse yourself a Pierce armada, but it might be more trouble than it's worth.
Metatron and Beezlebub are also gotten through the Amala, I think.

hmmm...maybe more work than its worth? I dunno Im doing fine with my guys as of now so Ill stick with them until I get stuck and need better dudes...but even so I just beat Ahriman so Im close to the end.

Only my main had Pierce when I fought Lucifer... I also took Beelzebub, Lilith and Dante with me, although I can't remember anything about specific movesets - although, I do remember having fused Lilith with one of the "Full Party Heal Magic" spells who's name eludes me at this very instant. Mediadyne maybe?

Mediarahan. Mediarahan, status immunity, and buffs/debuffs are most important, after having Pierce on the main. Pierce on demons will speed it along (dude has 60000 HP+ after all), but it isn't vital.

There we are, yeah, Mediarahan - also, I kind of wish I had spent the time fusing a better demon than Dante to fight Lucifer, but after winning the hour and a half long-ish boss fight, I was pretty damn proud of myself.
I'm trying to be a bit smarter about preparing for the Demi-fiend in DDS1 - I know I can't just willpower my way through him.

Only a mild annoyance, but it definitely sucked.
Also, I find it funny that metal spiky brass knuckles for some reason do less damage than light blue boxing gloves.

Especially at the one with the pitfalls.
It's worth it just for the atmosphere.

Heh, never, he saved my ass in that battle actually, didnt die once. I did win the fight but it was just a very close battle.

I sure hope translation goes well.
Man, as long as I can figure out how to make a guy and how to destroy others, all is well.
I'm excited for this. Might be the only MMO I will actually enjoy.
No. Get used to it. Just use something strong against Wind.
Sigh. Yukari just left because I let her die. I'll be able to fight the boss better when she comes back from her inevitable 3 days of healing.
Like a week, right?
