So what's the point of playing through again with my old character?

Getting to level 60. The unlockable difficulties are more manageable. Maybe you're attached to your character and like playing with them and you can continue to play as them and they don't have to be locked away in storage until ME2.

I'm going to play through as a soldier the first time. I always gravitate to the more powerful force/magic type characters so it'll be a refreshing change to go through this way. Plus, I feel like it matches the backstory they constructed for Shepherd the best.

Plus I like the idea of wearing the best armor... and health regeneration is sexy.

One thing to note about armor is that the heavier it is, the more it affects your accuracy while moving. Medium armor has a heavier accuracy penalty while moving than light armor and heavy armor is even worse.

It's not enough to neuter the usefulness of armor heavier than light, but it's something to keep in mind when calling heavy armor "the best armor."

So that Thresher Maw ambush quest that ends in the bunker was awesome. In fact ME has been altogether an experience filled with undiluted awesome. Except for the game randomly locking out mouse and keyboard.

Also Rachni launching you through the worldspace never gets old.

So, I have been playing my roommate's copy of ME for the 360 and I just killed Fist not too long ago and Tali joined me. I haven't done much cept wander the Citadel and all that jazz but so far this game has been astounding. Everything is so fucking superb from the voice acting to the visuals (not perfect by any means, but still so awesome it doesn't bother me) to the amount of fluff you can read up about. It's awesome and I can't wait to play some more.

I'm totally baffled. Reinstalled the game, downloaded the newest drivers for my 8800GT, reinstalled DX, tried running it as an adminstrator. No luck at all.

Working on my second play through now as a soldier. First character was a gothed out assassin bitch who hated everyone. My new dude is a nice guy gun slinger. Anywho I was wondering what you get for doing all the surveying of minerals and asteroids. Is it just a game achievement or is it an 'enhanced achievement'?

Im thinking after this run Il go back to my first chick and try to get her to sixty. I saw someone mention a specialist class. Is this something every class gets later on or am i just missing something?

Based on a check at the forums, at least I'm not the only one. There seem to be a ton of complaints about random crashes, the game not starting correctly, memory leaks, etc. Looks like Bioware screwed up on this one.

Looks like I'll be playing with this tomorrow.

Do the ally achievements require the people to join your party, or do you need to actually be actively using them in your squad, it looks like the wiki doesn't say.

You must actually use them as you complete tasks. The achievements unlock at 75% of the whole game completed. This means that you need to go to most, if not all, of the non-story planets and do as many sidequests and surveys and anomalies with your selected pair. In most cases, they are unlocked before or at the very beginning of the final planet.

The Asari one is tricky in that once you reach the Citadel, you must do absolutely nothing else that does not involve getting off of the Citadel itself. Once you do, go straight for the Asari and collect her. Put her in your team immediately and never take her out. That achievement unlocks somewhere close the end.

The only trouble I have with New Game+ is that it's a little jarring storywise to see my tricked-out hero Shepard back as a peon, so to speak, who is acting like s/he hasn't done any of the shit that I just finished doing. I'm mainly wondering how this will affect the sequel game, and which version of my character will carry over if I do things differently the second time. I'd hope that they will let you choose which version to use, rather than just use the most recent version. Anyone know how characters might carry over?

I might just stick to starting characters from scratch, though, since I prefer the story aspect to the leveling and junk.

Edit: Btw, I love the name "Penny" Shepard.

Man, I'd embrace eternity with Liara any time.

Actually, my first playthrough I went with Ashley, and am now not eager to do so again, not because I didn't like her, but because I feel like I'd be forcing her to cheat on my first PC.

    That's not weird, is it?

Every time you complete the game, it creates a separate end-game save. If you beat the game with a character twice and then you choose to use an existing character, you'll see multiple entries.

So the ability to choose is already present in the first ME.

Two links I have found useful for achievements:
    http://www.achieve360points.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63365
    http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/file/930279/50960

I am in the midst of my second playthrough. I have been a paragon soldier both times. The first time I went through on my own (Ashley romance) with Tali and Liara. Somehow I didn't get the Asari ally achievement though. So I'm trying to get that done this time (Garrus as my other member). I've found that sniper rifles at a high level are really, really fun and Garrus cleans up with his sniper too.

I'm looking forward to getting done with this run so I can do a female renegade vanguard run with Kaiden and Ashley in my party (go humans). Then I'll start a new game with one of my prior soldiers to try and beat it on hardcore and insane.

I swear I am addicted to Bioware games.

The Asari ally one is damn hard to get.

I only got it by ignoring citadel quests until I got her, going BACK, doing them, and even then it was only right before I started the final main mission.

I already told the tale of the guy on the official BioWare forums five years ago once in a past ME thread.

Short story even shorter, he fell in love with Bastila and was wracked with profound sadness that he would never really be with her and playing KotOR was the only way to spend time with her, but he had beaten the game and he'd have to start a new game to be with her again. Only she wouldn't know him anymore.

So no, you're not as weird as some people.

    That happens sometimes.

I've actually had Kaiden and Ashley absent before. So Shepard pushed nothing out of the way, then grabbed nothing, and then was lying on the ground all alone.

She later died of her injuries because there was no one left to help her.

I whole heartedly agree. Particularly when you're used to more... robust FPS's.

The game just feels worlds better when A.) it forces you to use all your talents and cleverness and B.) when you have alot of options at your disposal. B relates more to the idea that I had tons of fun as a soldier class. Bad times as a "mage" class. And big fun as the hybrid with pistols/sniper and her little Mass Effecty plasmids and whathaveyous.

I just started playing this two days ago and I'm slowly "getting" the Bioware RPG mold. I never played KOTOR (Boo! Hiss!) so this is my first time with this style. So far, I'm loving it. Though, I have some questions/statements.

    A. Is there a way to change your characters appearance mid-game? My shepard could do with a brow readjustment.

    2. Thanks to everyone who helped provide shadow fixes, I'll try them out tonight.

    C. Maybe it's just me but everytime I meet an Asari all I think is "It's whatsherface from DS9!":

[Pre-edit] I just realized that someone probably brought this up in the million pages of Mass Effect threads from before so....if that's the case I'm sorry.

I don't get very many random crashes, but they do occur. I bought a 3870 a week ago, upgrading from a 2400 pro [that replaced a 9600], just to bring my system fully into the modern age. Being able to play this game was only one of several reasons why. Games like this one make my purchase worth every cent.

Also, I believe it was the second KotoR that had the worst problems. Effectively, it was unplayable for about the first month of it's release. The word "Dantooine" still fills me with nameless dread when I have the game installed and have to go there.
