My girlfriend is looking to start writing her journal entries on her computer instead of by hand. I'm wondering if anyone uses anything or knows of any software that they like and could recommend to me. Free is great, but I'd be willing to spend some money on something if the software is just that good. Thanks!
Any features she wants in particular? Cause otherwise, I'm gonna suggest notepad
Does it need to be password protected? Does she want to drop photos inline or anything?
Microsoft's OneNote is a pretty sweet piece of software, actually, and it's relatively inexpensive (at least as far as MS products are concerned). You can get it lots of places online (like Newegg) and offline.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
What about livejournal? (www.livejournal.com) or blogspot by google? There's no need to download anything, you can update from anywhere and if you don't want to share an entry with the interwebs you can mark it private.

I'm sometimes grumpy and random, feel free to overlook the strange man in the corner.

Yeah, I was going to say MS Word, for similar reasons. I use Google Docs for any thoughts and such. The downside is you need an internet connection at all times, but that's when Word or Notepad comes in handy. There's also Notepad++. It's like Notepad on steroids and is primarily for writing code. However, you can use it for anything if you just need simple text.
I use Evernote But I actually got the program through Give away of the day for free. I use it for journal entries, pasting IM conversations, and brainstorming. I mostly like it because its searchable and you can easily make categories. The only downside is that (in ver2.2, at least) is it doesnt spell check. I havent gotten the beta of 3.0.

Download a file, stick it in a folder, make a link from a browser. Done.
I use it for all my personal development projects, and it is really slick.
