Yeah. It would be even better if Google's HTML and CSS wasn't a mess, then I wouldn't spend half my time restarting Firefox to see if I changed the font in the correct div. <_< </rant>

And, I'd like to quickly add, it's easy to ditch the padding on the toolbars so the buttons are on the screen edges (you can throw your mouse against the left side of the screen and shift it up to hit the back button, etc.).

From what I understand, Firefox is notoriously single threaded. I guess that's probably still the case with Firefox 3.

That would explain it. I found /. thread about this - apparently, if there are going to be improvements, it'll probably come in Firefox 4. Only bug I could find about this was the one I couldn't find - Long delays against some HTTP servers when using multiple persistent connections (network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server).

Writing this in Opera and browsing Bugzilla and MozillaZine in Firefox. Firefox just crashed. I've probably got some bastard add-on somewhere.

Firefox 3 RC1 doesn't seem to be any faster for me. And the memory usage is steadily climbing. Isn't Firefox 3 supposed to not do that?

I hate Awesome Bar. It'd probably be okay for a first-time user, but typing the first few letters of a URL and then down to select the address is too engrained in me. When I tried the beta, I kept going places I didn't want to go.
Firefox 3's awesome bar is the best thing ever!

Situation: I only remember one word in the title of the page that I recently visited.
SOLUTION: Type it in the address bar, and it's right there at that top.

    MAGIC!

You've always been able to do that in the History sidebar.

Sure, but now you can do it for both history and bookmarks without losing the side of your screen to the sidebar. If you use the awesomebar long enough, you'll get used to it and it will put your most visited pages at the top. Alternatively, if you don't want to do that, you can save time with keywords (/. for /., paf for the fora, etc.).

When Firefox 3 gets released tomorrow i'll update the op a bit, if anyone has suggestions for stuff like "must get" add-ons then fire away.

And since I'm now on that subject I've just come across a couple of pretty damn cool ones, it has always niggled me slightly how Firefox doesn't look as native as it should on Vista.

So, I have an add-on called Glasser which makes it look much more like a Vista program. That way it fits in better, so all the other Vista apps aren't picking on Firefox.. damn application racism, when will it end?

    fx3-glass.jpg

I'm also using the hide menubar add-on.

Direct download to the glasser installer.

With the addition of the stylish add-on and the css files copied and pasted from the glasser extras you can make it look like a wholly native Vista application.

    For example:

It automatically appears when you start typing in the address bar. I'll see if I can dig out an add-on that adds it so it's permanently there though.

The Go arrow should still be there, just that it's inside the address bar now and only active when the URL's being edited.

This page has instructions on how to bring back the older style Go button, though.

Your profile is perfectly safe - you'll just get the add-ons window upon start-up because it needs to check the compatibility of your plug-ins. In fact, you can safely switch between Firefox 2 and 3 with the same profile, it's just annoying waiting for the compatibility checks.

If you install to the same location as your current install, the new one will have all the old stuff, except for the extensions that don't work (they will be present but disabled). If you install to a different location you will have to copy over the contents of your profile directory to the new one to get everything back the way it was, but the new install should automatically suck up bookmarks and things.

I wonder why Mozilla didn't do what glasser is doing, I mean.. hell, with this damn cool add-on Firefox now looks like a fully integrated Vista program. Funny thing is that I only really use Vista at work though.

Of all the OS integration i'd say the XP version is probably the best.

On OS X whilst the buttons look like OS X buttons they don't appear to be actual OS X buttons. For example listviews etc. This guy actually gives good info on it, but calling it ugly is just plain stupid. It looks nice to me, it just doesn't appear to be fully integrated with OS X. (I use Firefox on my Macbook Pro) To be honest the only thing I noticed out of that lot was the listview menus as they don't have the proper fade/shadowing effect as they would with Safari and other fully native OS X apps.

There was a thread on MozillaZine where one of the UI guys (Alex Faarborg - I think that's how you spell it) said that this wouldn't happen until a future version, possibly 3.5, because they were afraid it'd clash with existing add-ons.

Despite the fact that everyone is telling Moz how freaking awesome Fx looks like with proper glass and less of that sucky blue/purple/silver/chrome toolbar that is probably the worst part of Aero in my opinion. *inhales deeply* I think that mini-rant's done.

That's an understatement, you only need to look at the screen shots I took above. With full Vista ui integration it looks miles better.

Fx 3 has been in development for a while now, they have no doubt broken lots of plug-ins. They should have just done it for 3. Well, here's hoping it appears in 3.1. (3.1 has been announced btw)

EDIT: Also, has anyone noticed how MozillaZines forum is broken? It redirects to http://forums-test.mozillazine.org/ which is deader than Gary Glitters musical career.

The MozillaZine forum was fine earlier today. Wait, it's working now. I think they upgraded the forum software, because they now have the kind of blue CSS you only get on new fora. Plus Trebuchet MS. Also only ever seen on newly-installed fora.

EDIT: Notice on the site saying they just upgraded to phpBB3. Thrilling.

Maybe they updated their DNS too and it hasn't yet propagated to works ISP. I'll see when I get home I guess.

EDIT: The 3.0 directory on Mozillas FTP server has been created. They've dropped a HTML file in there that says the following:

    We're almost ready!

We're still putting the finishing touches on Firefox 3, preparing the new website, getting our servers ready, and doing our final pre-launch checks. We're happy that people are eager to get their hands on Firefox 3, but we still have a little bit of work to do. The files in this directory should only be used by our testers for now. If you'd like to be notified about when we're ready for the world, please go to sign up for Download Day and we'll be happy to do that. Certain extensions fuck with the remembrotron subroutines; you will have to deflargle them yourself.
Lucky you, this is extremely simple:

Open "about:config" and set "browser.sessionstore.enabled" (the entire line should be bolded for your convenience) to "true" by double-clicking the "false" text and confirming the little dialogue that pops up.

For the interested, FF3 appears to remember both your closed tabs and the back-button history for each tab as well. This is awesome.

When I download something, the moment it is finished the file is removed from Firefox's download manager. I've reinstalled FF2 in the past, to no effect. Also, installing FF3 RC2 and 3 have the same behavior.

Oh Firefox 3, what to do, what to do. I love your features, but on my aging iMac G5, even the latest release candidate is somewhat sluggish, especially so when compared to Safari. On a newer computer I can't notice a difference, but on mine it certainly shows. Also I have to read some of the guides to the new version, the new bookmark management system sort of confuses me but I bet there is so much good stuff packed in there.

So I just downloaded Firefox 3 and I have 2 problems that I'm sure have a simple solution.

    1. These bookmarks in my recent internet history drop-down menu thing. I want them gone. If I want to see my bookmarked sites I'll click bookmarks, not my drop-down of recent sites. How do I stop them from showing up? It's really annoying to just want to click penny-arcade and instead of finding it at the bottom like usual I find some other bookmark.

    2. I have shitty eyes so I can't read small font on this high resolution. I always just used ctrl+scroll wheel to enlarge the text but in 3 it seems to not work right and it just zooms the whole page in instead of making the text bigger. This results in pictures being really blurry. I'd like a way to do it just like I used to.

So can anyone help with these 2 things?
