World of Goo available worldwide. I guess that's nice for those that care about the game that didn't get it directly from the dev, where it for some reason wasn't region locked.
Odd, I'm trying to purchase EVE Online: Quantum Rise, and the payment isnt' going through, even though I literally bought Left 4 Dead not but two days ago, with plenty of money in my account.

TF2 update came out, steam breaks when that happens. Give it a bit and all the weirdness should clear up.

You will need to use this link each time you wish to purchase in localized currency during the beta. Your having opted into the beta is only saved for the duration of your browser session. Pound Sterling is available only in the United Kingdom; Euros are available only in Europe.
You won't be able to actually purchase if you manually set the store to a country/currency other than that in which you actually live.
With regional currency enabled, it says "All prices include VAT where applicable" (whereas it's "Final taxes and total will be calculated during checkout" when disabled), but even then, the games are more expensive in €, because the store uses the same numerical values for the prices for $ and € for almost all games (the only exception I could find was Football Manager 2009).
The UK can be happy, though. The £ prices seem to be generally a lot lower than the $ prices.

Mainly because the £ is starting to be worth alot less now. Its getting on par with the Euro.

Which in real terms means that Steam prices are actually becoming more expensive than UK store prices, where before they were on par or cheaper.

In the thread on the Steam forums that I linked, people have compared the USD prices with the localized currency prices and right now, the € prices are higher than the $ prices, while the £ are lower.
Looking at the Steam store for various European countries, I think the feature just isn't completely done yet. It says that VAT is included, but the shown prices are exactly the same for all the countries (excluding cases of existing regional pricing), which doesn't make sense for countries with different amounts of VAT.
There's a new Steam Beta client available. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings, and on the Account tab will be a drop down. Select Steam Client Candidate, and then allow Steam to restart itself. Here are the specific changes:
- Updated game overlay web browser to support generic web browsing, including web sites that use flash
- Fixed games list scrolling behavior with pageup/pagedown and mouse wheel
- Many back-end Steamworks changes in preparation for a Steamworks SDK update
I love those surveys. It lets me know how my computer stands compared to the rest of the Steam community and while that it's really useful information (to me at least) it's still interesting.

SWEET.
Waiting for a server to open up without the game already running is just not a feasible option anymore, and running the game in windowed mode so I can browse and then returning to full screen disables parts of my HUD (in TF2). Being able to do some browsing while waiting on a server to open up will be great.
Maybe it's just because I'm playing CS:S instead of TF2, but in this beta the initial opening of the overlay and opening windows in the overlay seems faster. Previously it would take up to half a minute between hitting the community button to the window appearing. Now it appeared immeadietly.
Something in me suspects that the results are wrong.
I mean the most common 4:3 monitor size is 16"? I've never even heard of a 16" monitor
Most common 16:9 monitor is 27"? I find that pretty unlikely.
Yeah that sounded weird to me too, until I realised that more people might be gaming on TV's these days, hence 27". When you combine the 22" and 24" statistics, you still get around 29%, which is vastly higher than the 27" displays. Since there's no option for 16:10 they might have just amalgamated those statistics in with 16:9. Who knows.
The 16" / 17" monitors would match up well with the fact that there's still a huge percentage of people gaming at either 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024.
Not if you don't link your Steam profile. There's no real benefit to being in the PA group, though. If you want to play with PA people, just add the PA servers to your favorites.

-noborder, but you still have the performance drop from windowed mode

its mainly since they might be adding the group server thing to TF2 and I'd like to be able to use that feature

I mean, it'd be ok, but is it so much harder than going to Favorites and seeing if anybody's online?

Okay, wow. I just watching a bunch a videos, streamed music from an Internet radio station, and played Auditorium and a bunch of other flash games from from inside goddamn TF2. It's felt like when I first played that Tetris mod for UT99, except way more meta; it's kind of surreal. Glorious technology overkill is glorious.

Oh yeah, by the way, the PA forums are not kind to the in-game browser in the beta version of Steam. The entire Overlay crashed and wouldn't come back until I relaunched the game.

I'm posting this right from L4D, actually. Browsing fine on my setup. Well, I guess you can either blame it on beta or Internet Explorer.

I haven't had that problem. My main problem is that text input is very slow, but that problem was also there when the browser was only for Steam Community.

Hey, I remember that mod!
UT99 really did have the biggest selection of mods and mutators. It's a shame what happened to the series. Heck, UT99's interface alone was leagues beyond the crap they've got going now.
Anyway, hurray for web browsing in-game. I can finally check up on stuff during my respawn timer. Genius stuff Valve, Microsoft aren't even close to catching up with Steam and yet they keep pushing the awesome boundary.
Has anyone tried Youtube? I can't seem to get it to work, it says that I must have Javascript turned off or need to update the flash player or something
Why does Steam keep inviting me to the official L4D and TF2 groups? Am I supposed to be in them?
Yes, you are very much supposed to be in them. It was however me and not Steam itself that invited you. When you get a group invite, it actually says who it's from.
I'd love to see the friends list detached from the rest of steam in some way. So that you can chat from a browser or so that apps on my iPhone could connect to it.
Strange request here, but if anyone can help me you will be loved and revered forever. I'm looking for an instrumental version of Still Alive and nothing I'm finding online will cut it. Anyone got any ideas?
edit: never mind, I may have found something that'll do.. hope this works.

Planning on serenading HAL later on or something? :P

Not really. Try going to http://store.steampowered.com/?localizedcurrency=1&cc=UK. Prices shown in £, the numerical values of the prices are lower and in the shopping cart, it says that VAT is included.

This will ease some time whilst waiting in lobbies. Gratz to Steam!
