I'm looking to buy an MP3 player for $70 or less (less is better). I'll mostly be using it while exercising so nothing too massive. I don't really care if it can play video or not, but I definitely want a screen of some sort to navigate through albums/songs. So what MP3 players have you peoples had good experiences with and what should I avoid? I want at least 2gb of space, and any extra flash-card-ready-thingy-slot would be kinda nice, but not absolutely necessary.
I don't really like music, but I've been doing morning runs recently, and music is better than nothing for me. I bought a 1gb Insignia for 30 dollars and I am only using about 250mb of it currently. For the listed reasons, I was loath to spend alot of money on something I doubted I would have much use for save exercise, but it has impressed me. It has a long battery life; I've recharged it only once so far, use it 30 to 45 minutes a day, and have had it for about 3 months.
Check out buy.com. They have some great deals on refurbed players all the time, and you can get the first time shopper 10$ off coupon. You might be able to get something good there for cheap.
I also enjoy my cheesy Insignia. I have one of the older models (NS-DV), and it supports a fairly large number of media types, doesn't require using any proprietary software, has good battery life, and what's impressed me most is despite the fact that the model I have is discontinued, they've still been coming out with free firmware updates -- the most recent of which actually basically turned this into this (sans bluetooth, and mine was 4GB to begin with). It's not absolutely perfect, there are the occasional things that could be polished, but it was certainly a heck of a deal for the cheapness.
I got a 1 gig Samsung YP-U3 a few months back and it's pretty good. Nothing terribly fancy (128px by 64px OLED screen - OMFG it's ginormous!), but it does the job (I was pleased to know it supports OGG). I think it was about AUD 60 or 70 when I got it, but I'm not sure how much a 2 gig one would cost in the US.
I've been very happy with my SanDisk Sansa 2 GB player
got it refurbed about a year ago and have had occasional problems with it not initializing correctly, but I just needed to power it off and back on to fix the problem
I just got a Creative Zen Stone Plus because my iPod went kaput. Aside from the whole not holding my entire music collection thing, it's a pretty sweet player. It has a speaker on it, which I first thought was kinda lame but it's pretty sweet to keep the music going from house->outside->car->outside->work without missing a beat. Also nice for the "hey have you heard this one" kinda stuff with friends.
I'm also a big fan of the fact that it came with a little MP3 condom and a clip. Apple likes to make you pay 20 bucks for that. jerks.

Any suggestions would be grealy appreciated. (even if it's a super cheap mp3 player as long as it gets the job done)
I had a 2GB Creative Zen Nano that lasted a year in the middle east. It survived 130 degree heat, being dropped, kicked, submerged in water and various other types of abuse. I was very satisfied.

Its a great wee thing, considering I only paid £50 for it. Battery life is long enough and the features are nice.

Haha, nice call on today's woot. Hopefully he's reading the thread still.
