Posts
The actual fights are where the game excels, and rightfully so.

Uh, anyway. I liked Budokai Tenkaichi 2 due to the freedom you have with the various stages-- does this game have anything like that? Flight and all that? I guess I could check out some videos.
Yeah I got to about 67 or so in survival on default and lost, i wasnt happy cause that took a while...
Also, Bardock is still the man.
*eats Bardock* >.> <.<
Wait. A game where Yamcha's actually worth using?
Hot damn.
360.
Yamcha was pretty awful in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, but in the normal Budokai series he was always a solid pick. In Burst Limit, he's got an extremely good close-up game and an Ultimate move that supports the rush in strategy, so I'd say he's probably better than Tien from a strategy point of view.
Burst Limit is a much different beast than Tenkaichi 2, since it's more like the regular Budokai games. That said, I loved Tenkaichi and having played the Burst Limit demo to death it's still similar enough that you'd enjoy it. It has flying, but there's less freedom of movement than in the Tenkaichi games. It's a more standard 2d-plane fighter, at least from what I've seen in the demo.
I'm thinking of picking this up today.

I can't stand his ultimate, myself, but I see what you're getting at. Tien is really good, he's fast, combos well, anybody with a three stage projectile ultimate is awesome, because it's really hard to dodge all the hits if you're not careful.
So, I played the demo of this, but I've never played the tenkaichi games. I showed the demo to a friend of mine who said "Well, that's pointless, it doesn't add anything compared to tenkaichi. In that one you get to fly around and..." etc. etc.
Is this a well-founded opinion? I can't compare the two, so I'd like to hear some solid opinions. It seems like you can fly around in this one too, and the only difference is the camera angle in Tenkaichi looks like Resident Evil 4.
I ask because I don't want this game to sink into the abyss in a month or two with no one online to play against. That shit happened with Street Fighter II and it's really dissapointing.
this is a game you want to leave the headset off for, though
In the Tenkaichi games (which I've played quite a bit of. I've never played any of the previous Dimps Budokai games until I played this demo) you can fly around wherever you'd like to go. The battlefields are more like arenas that you have free reign to move around in. While this is fun, I still found the Burst Limit demo enjoyable enough that the more constrictive gameplay didn't make much of a difference to me. I don't think the free flying in Tenkaichi is significant enough to count Burst Limit out, not by a long shot. The fundamental combat is quite solid from what I've played in the demo.
The combat system is a little different in Tenkaichi as well, and seems more fast paced and less tactical than the one in Burst Limit. Having played so much Tenkaichi, it took me a little while to adjust to Burst Limit, but now that I have it feels, for lack of a better word, more "Crunchy." Tenkaichi focuses more on fast groups of attacks and quick evading, to make use of the arena aspect.
TL;DR Tenkaichi is more of an arena fighter, Burst Limit is more of a standard style fighter. From what I've played of the demo of Burst Limit, the game is at least as awesome as Tenkaichi, they're just different.

There is a few things that could be fixed with a bit of fluff and polish. Mainly effects visuals. Some of it looks amazing but it looks a bit rushed. Story mode for example, not having a hole punched through Raditz and Goku.. lame. Some of the explosions look terrible. I havent gone all the way through yet so I cant say what else sticks out.
Of course there will be a burst limit 2 with more playable guys and and who knows what else.
Maybe one day they will effectively merge the openess of Tenkaichi with the good combat of Budokai to make a really really amazing DBZ game.
Yeah, but the thing about the Tenkaichi games was that they were pretty crap fighters, at least in my opinion. Budokai 3 (which was before Budokai Tenkaichi 1) was a surprisingly solid fighter first, and a DBZ game second. The Tenkaichi series is arguably better from a DBZ standpoint, but Budokai/Burst Limit has it beaten for sheer fighting game-ness.
Burst Limit is no VF5, but it's still a blast to play and there's nothing quite like leveling an area with a 5-bar super.
Edit: Also, for people who've just picked up the game, throw up your gamertag and system you play the game on, so you may be added to the OP.
Keep in mind I've only played the demo, but that sounds pretty out there. Are you just not usually into fighting games, or what's your reasoning here?
I absolutely fucking hate normal fighting games. I love how fast paced and out there the DBZ fighter games are, even though I suck at them.
e: By "normal" I mean, two people that just punch and kick. It feels like it has no variety.

I would love to be crushed by your Bardock, but alas I'm on the other platform and I'm still learning the ropes. I'm enjoying the game so far.
EDIT: Thanks very much for making the change.

I'm pretty crazy, Who knows what I'll do next.
I had that exact same dilemma. In the end, I went with my preferred controller for these types of games. But then I don't do a ton of online gaming, so...

Yeah Id imagine the PS3 version could be better with the controller the playstation has, but then again, it really isnt that bad at all on the 360, sure the buttons and d-pad on the 360 arnt amazing but ive been using the analog stick anyways, been working fine for me.
Also, when I play online there are TONS of people, and I only chose within the USA, I dont know how many are on the ps3 but there were a heck of a lot on the 360.
One moooorrre thing - Survival record 83/100, Yarg, I hate when you lower their health so they have around one more hit to kill em and then they go all Mortal Kombat on you and kick the shit out of you and you lose, very retarded...
Also, Shoe may now lord over me forever that he got a round on me with Saibamen.
How long is the single player?
3DS: 1521-4165-5907
PS3: KayleSolo
Live: Kayle Solo
WiiU: KayleSolo
Thankfully, not nearly as long as any of the other DBZ games, mostly because they don't have an idiotic character unlock mechanic. There's Z Chronicles, which goes through the Saiyan, Frieza, and Android/Cell sagas as well as the Bardock and Broly movies. There's also challenge mode, like survival
and other similar modes.
But you're really getting this so you can explode us PAers, aren't you?
If you haven't already done so, complete the tutorials. They'll get you much more familiar with the controls, as well as unlock the Senzu Bean Drama Piece.
I think the most enjoyable fight in the Z Chronicles was kicking the ass of Cell's second form with Tien.
Tien was also the first character I used online.
I'm currently using Bardock in the Survival Trial. Left the game on pause overnight so I wouldn't have to resart from zero again.
