Requiem: Bloodymare
Requiem: Bloodymare introduces a world where the misuse of science and magic has warped the natural world into a twisted vision of death. Set in the world of Ethegia, players take on the role of the Temperions, beings created through genetic engineering and arcane rites to engage in bloody combat with the walking nightmares stalking the land. Using the Havok engine, Requiem: Bloodymare brings to life a visually stunning realm where fallout from generations of scientific and mystical warfare has polluted the natural world and given birth to horribly mutated monsters. The battles between players and these grotesque creatures are rendered with intense sequences of bloody and gory graphics. Requiem: Bloodymare also brings several game mechanics that set it apart from the rest of the MMO market. The time of day is an extremely important factor for players under the Nightmare System with incredibly powerful creatures awakening to terrorize the world at night. To defeat these challenges players will be able to draw upon the DNA System and the Beast Possession System. Players use genetic engineering to modify their DNA to obtain characteristics and abilities nature never intended. The mystic arts enable players to possess and transform into different bestial beings with extraordinary abilities. [Gravity]

Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm
Battle 40-foot waves, storms, ice and a nearly 100-percent crewmember injury rate in the dangerous hunt for undersea riches on the Bering Sea with Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm. The game was inspired by Sig, Edgar and Norman Hansen -- three brothers who have made their living crab fishing on the Bering Sea aboard their family's fishing vessel, the Northwestern. Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm lets gamers captain their own boat in the frenzied search for an undersea jackpot. Gamers select one of five real crab boats, including the Northwestern, Cornelia Marie and Sea Star -- all featured on the series, or create and customize their own boat. Gamers then recruit and lead their own crew from a roster of twenty real crab fishermen. Selecting the wrong boat or recruiting the wrong crew member can mean the difference between landing a Bering Sea jackpot or disaster. Lead your fatigued, hungry and hardworking crew in the strategic search for King Crab and Opilio Crab, while battling to secure your catch and livelihood before other captains and crews get to the crab first. So, it looks like a great week for portable gamers!

I thought I ha missed Etrian Odysee 2 last week, but apparently it comes out tomorrow, properly. Thanks to Xenogears for clarifying that for me.

But otherwise, Space Invaders Extreme actually looks like a lot of fun on either the DS or PSP; meanwhile, the PSP also gets what is bound to be the excellent Secret Agent Clank!

Other than that.. this week is dim. Next week shall be awesome though, trust me.

I wonder what the DLC stuff for the week'll be?

If TeamXBox is to be believed, this week's XBLA game is Sea Life Safari, a kind of underwater rail photography game ala Pokemon Snap. Then again, TeamXBox is the same site that reviewed Ikaruga a couple months before it actually was released so who knows?

Space Invaders Extreme has been getting very favorable reviews with positive comparisons to Pac-Man: Championship Edition and Lumines being made. I'm highly tempted to pick it up.

Space Invaders Extreme and Etrian Odyssey 2 are both gonna be picked up for my DS. Was considering Space Invaders for the PSP instead but IGN seems to say that the DS version is superior in everything but graphics.

I'll likely trade some stuff around to get one of the Space Invaders, although I'm still torn between DS and PSP. I might go for DS as the vertical-screen configuation seems more natural, but I'm going to do some investigating today to see what reviewers say.

EDIT: Oh hey! CAG is telling me that next week Toys R Us (U.S. only confirmed so far) is having a buy 2 get 1 free on all DS games. This is from June 22 to 28, so I might delay buying Space Invaders Extreme until next week. I might use this excuse to buy EO2 even though I'm still only on B11 in the original.

Secret Agent Clank apparently sucks. IGN gave it a 6.5.
I don't hate Secret Agent Clank or anything; I'm just disappointed with it. In the beginning, Clank's quips and the concentrated doses of spy movie references really hit the mark and make it seem like this is going to be an awesome experience. However, some odd Qwark missions and dumbed-down Ratchet battles show up to dilute the spy feel. By the end, it feels like you're playing just another platformer rather than the epic, fun spy story it seemed like you were setting out on.

That's not what Ratchet and Clank is all about.

Shame really, I love the Ratchet series.

The only words I've heard about Secret Agent Clank haven't been good either; Shane on 1up Yours pretty much condemned the game, saying that aside from a handful of cool Qwark missions it's actually a very stealth-heavy game instead of the action-platforming formula that R&C was founded on. I'm playing through Size Matters on PSP right now and would love some more of the series goodness, but the stealth mentions turned me off right away. (I've never really liked the Clank segments in the games anyway, to be honest.)

Yeah, one of the things IGN griped about is that Clank is all stealth, so you wind up spending all your bolts on weapons for Ratchet for his jail fight segments. Then you get to Clank's end boss and it's pure melee, but you don't have enough weapons to take him on because you spent it all on Ratchet.

Also all the screenshots I've seen involve the blob enemies from the FIRST game, so there's a bit of recycling going on.

I've really gotta find a PS3 for cheap so I can play that Ratchet.

So I got $50 for gaming for Father's Day (go daughter!). I'm thinking Space Invaders Extreme (DS version), RooGoo, Star Soldier R, and Toki Tori. EO2 is tempting, but towards the end of EO1 I was starting to get bored, and I've heard EO2 is more like an expansion pack than a radically different game. I'd like to get Civilization Revolution (absolutely love the demo), but sadly, there's another month or so for that. :)

I think that's this week's big PSN game, so shouldn't it technically be in the PSN section? Great work as always on the thread. I'm glad there are still a couple of cool things coming out this week in the wake of last week's awesome.

Anyway, is this going to be a slow year? Well I can't tell you for sure, and it depends on your tastes, but between now and August (starting next week) we'll have Bad Company, Top Spin 3, GH Aerosmith, Civ Revolution, Soul Calibur IV, C&C3 Kane's Wrath, Alone in the Dark, Unreall Tournament 3 (on 360), Rock Band wii, a Chocobo Dungeon game, a Rock Band track pack, We Love Golf, Guitar Hero On Tour, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, another Megaman Star Force, Trauma Center Under the Knife 2, Final Fantasy IV DS, Gauntlet DS, and Izuna 2... and that doesn't include the games that may come out sooner but don't have a release date, and games coming out on the download services.

Considering August is only a month and a half away, that's not too bad of a list of forthcoming stuff that I personally know of (while other stuff may come out and surprise us as they usually do)

there's been a lot of negative hype about SCIV due to the star wars characters. civ is cool looking but I don't see it really doing big business. and I hope people don't have a bad taste in their mouths about alone in the dark from uwe boll.

the ds games will do well, everyone has a ds.

What I consider a must-have and what I consider a prospective good-seller are not necessarily one in the same :P

For example, I personally think Bangai-O is a must have, as any Treasure and/or Shmup fan will probably tell you. It's definitely doomed to failure at retail, of course. But it's still a must-have by many fans of the genre.

Meanwhile, Madden or whatever, for example, is definitely going to sell extremely well, but a lot of people couldn't care less about it.

Oh, but yeah, I think some soul calibur enthusiasts are a little turned off by the seemingly pointless addition of the Star Wars characters. But more so the fact that the TNA of the game is just getting out of hand. But I think most people (outside of the hardcore group following every detail of SCIV) aren't going to be much affected by that, and if anything, the Star Wars stuff will make the game more of an incentive to "Gotta have it." Also a lot of the hardcore SC group will complain a little about the TNA and the SW stuff, but are still excited and still "must have" the game.

I think that's this week's big PSN game, so shouldn't it technically be in the PSN section? Great work as always on the thread. I'm glad there are still a couple of cool things coming out this week in the wake of last week's awesome.

I totally forgot that it's a PSN game. It's just such a "big game" (relatively speaking) that I put it in the PS3 section.

    Moving it now....

No problem, I keep forgetting about it as well. I think it's kind of cool that Fatal Inertia is getting another shot in this manner, I'm curious to see how it will do.

Dragon Quest IV is out in July too. (I think it's July.) I'm really looking forward to that. My most anticipated title of the summer.

I'm pretty sure it's September ... Yep, Sept. 16. You might be thinking of FFIV DS, though, which is July 22 according to GameStop.

Damn. I must have gotten it mixed up. Well, that's a shame. I can't wait for that whole trilogy to be released.

In addition to Sea Life Safari, Major Nelson just confirmed Elements of Destruction (a DS port where you're a mad scientist using disasters to destroy cities), both for 800 MS points.

Checked out the whopping 2 reviews for Element of Destruction on gamerankings & metacritic (70% & 74%) and it sounds like a fun game. Should be worth the $10 it costs.

Elements of Destruction will be getting a trial for sure. A game about destroying everything using your machine that controls the forces of nature? Yes please.
