I think I've got everything. Recently dropped Creeper, Hawkgirl and OMAC since I havent read them in months.
I have a Q. If Kitty Pryde is in phazed state, and then moves into the body of someone else, and then materializes again, what would happen? Would the other person explode or something? And has she ever used this as an attack? If not, why not?

yeah it would pretty much kill them
and she hasn't really used it because of the killing thing
she threatened someone with it in a recent astonishing x-men though

Not only would it likely kill the person she phased into, since she has no powers to increase her toughness when not phased, it would probably kill her too.

So, I'm just starting to get into comics now and am looking to pick up a few collections to read at work.
Are there any must-have books that are fairly cheap?
Depends on what you're into, but the first volumes of Ex Machina, Y the Last Man, Runaways, Invincible, and Teen Titans are all pretty cheap. I think Ex Machina and Invincible are the most expensive, topping out at around $13. Honestly though, comics are so diverse when it comes to subject matter that it's going to be hard to reccommend stuff to you without a good idea of what you like.

What kinds of things are you interested in? Picking books that are "must haves" is kind of like buying music because it is on the best seller charts. Which is really kind of silly.

(because it's popular)
Sshh..he's thinking of the most obscure book he can think of, that only three other people know about.
Okay, I guess I'll try to be a bit more specific then...
Firstly, I can't buy anything online, so it has to be available at a local comic shop.
Secondly, I think I like Marvel more than DC from my limited reading. I've read quite a bit of the Civil War series and enjoy it quite a bit. I think I'd like to look into crossover events, and a few that I've notised that seemed interesting were Marvel Zombies and Marvel 1602.
I think I'd rather read about more "popular" characters, if you will. Like those that are recognizable to the average joe. I'd like to move onto more obscure and newer characters later on.
My favorite characters from Civil War have been the Cap, Spidey, Deadpool, Wolverine, and Namor. I don't think I'm a huge X-Man fan though, the Apocalypse epic thing looks interesting, but it was way out of my price range.
I dunno, I hope this narrows it down a bit. Thanks for the suggestions thus far. Also, tell me what to stay as far away form as possible as well.
Well, since you seem to have a good idea of what characters you like, that makes it easier. As a general guide, I'd suggest checking out the Trade Paperback List. It's a list of every available and upcoming trade paperback (basically several issues of a particular comic bound together in a softcover format), with a description of the book, and a list of the writers and artists that worked on it.
As for specific suggestions, Deadpool regularly appears in Cable and Deadpool, which has four or five trades out now. Captain America was relaunched something like two years ago by Ed Brubaker, starting with the Winter Soldier story, which has some great art and a pretty cool, down to Earth story dealing with intrigue and subterfuge. It also sort of recaps Cap's past, so that's helpful. Daredevil's basically had a great run for several years now. On the TP List site, just look under Volume Two (1998), and just start from there. If it's written by Kevin Smith, Brian Bendis, or Ed Brubaker, it should be good. Wolverine has his own ongoing, and regularly appears in Astonishing X-Men (which is really good), and New Avengers (which I haven't read but I'm told is also good). As far as solo Wolverine stories, check out Origin, which gives a definitive take on Wolverine's past, and Enemy of the State, a story that occurred in Wolverine where he was taken over by a terrorist group and generally laid waste to every superhero in his path. Namor's not really appearing in anything but Civil War and the upcoming Illuminati mini-series.
Pretty much any of the stuff I've just reccomended can be found in a decent comic shop, and most will order stuff in for you if you request it. Failing that, seek out a Borders or Barnes and Noble, and they too will either carry it or order it for you if you ask. Also, if you're just getting into comics, just try reading through some stuff at B&N to get a feel for what you like, or hit up your local library and see if they have TPBs or subscriptions to any comics. Most will, and it's a great way to be exposed to a lot of comics for free.

Awesome, thanks a ton. I'll definitely check into all of it.
Also, I didn't even think of the library, I'll check it out tomorrow.
If your library does not have them, and you have access to a college library, check there. Also, most colleges have something like an inter-library loan exchange program. I read dozens of books I would not have been able to that way.
So Spawn, I loved the animated series, and the toys are badass. But I have heard alot of hate towards the actual comic. Does it suck and should I pick up the trades?

ShimSham likes Spawn
that should tell you it's retarded, just like everything else ShimSham enjoys
I just tried searching on the UofS library web catalogue and it didn't seem like they had anything.
Where is this magical school of yours that encourages imagination?
My college was Elizabethtown College, in Lancaster county, PA, USA. I graduated in May, but we get library priveleges for at least six months. Ask someone at your library if you have access to inter-library loan, or worldcat, or just ask them if there are comics or graphic novels in the library anywhere. I have heard that a lot of larger schools have comics in their libraries.

DC loves me.
You should read Sword of Atlantis, as at the moment it is pretty much a Year One.

Or Brubaker and Philip's new one, CRIMINAL. It's not really noir, I guess, but crime + Brubaker + Philips = goodness.

I picked up the first OYL issue, and then my old shop decided not to order any issues after that. I haven't picked up the trade yet

Then I guess he wouldn't want Justice would he giggles?
Plus, the only Super Friends relation to Justice is the fact that it has some of the same characters.
