I went to the public library today and picked up a large stack of TPBs, including Quiver, Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again, a few Runaways, a few House of Ms, Ex Machina, and Inhumans.

I would have grabbed Teen Titans as well, but there was a 40+ year old woman there reading it when I got there.

I read Quiver and it was okay. Not great, but certainly not bad. I think I'm going to run to a comic shop tomorrow night and buy Marvel Zombies though, because, well, Zombies.

Well the Library didn't have Dark Knight Returns in and I'm not a big enough Batman fan to buy it. I will break the rules this one time.

So that makes what, four clones then? Buffy - River - Shadowcat - Molly. The man should try changing things up every once in a while.

    Yeah, clones.

Because there's absolutely nothing that set those characters apart from each other.

Of course not. A teenage Vampire Hunter is exactly like a damaged teenage psychic, who is of course exactly like a phasing early 20's ninja/teacher/superhero, who is exactly like a little girl who can lift heavy things but then needs to take a nap.

But he did write Kitty to be more like Buffy (or so I've heard, haven't yet had the chance to read AXM myself).

I'd like to think of it more as him writting Kitty to be an actual person instead of the same insecure teenager she was stuck as for a decade.

At least as far as he's said, he wrote Buffy to be like Kitty. His whole "teenage girls that kick ass" thing is supposedly because of his old crush on Kitty.

That is correct. Kitty was kicking ass long before Joss started writing her. I'm ashamed someone named Illyria didn't know that! jk!

I think the issue is that Kitty was underutilized for the past few years (while Wolverine has been utilized into stupidity), and Joss helped correct that injustice.

Edit: And I like the fact that Joss writes strong female characters. There's so much testosterone in these things, it's nice to get another perspective on occassion.

I though that Ultimate Galactus was very meh. It was nice to see them squeeze in Ultimate Mahr-Vell though...

    On to the question.

Anyone know how long Grant Morrison's "exclusivity" with DC is contracted to last? I tried getting into DC a few years back, but since I stopped working at the comic store, I can't afford to drop cash on titles on the hope that I'll end up loving them in the long run.

OK remember that cartoon that ran on the WB along with Static Shock and it was about a robot that had to run from the government. And it crossed over with Static Shock?
What was the name of that cartoon?

    The Zeta Project.

it was a spin-off of Batman Beyond and an earlier Zeta model appeared in JLU.

Has Superman/Batman been any good? I was very underwhelmed with the first arc and have not read it since. I do very much enjoy McGuinness artwork though, and he as been back on the book for some time. Also, I like alternate takes on characters, and I think this book has had a lot. The Maximums, the alternate reality/gender superheroes (I think I remember seeing Power Boy or something) and whatnot look kind of fun. Does anyone read it?

and apparently McG has not been on it for some time. Dammit.

So, in the preview for the new JSA, Mr. Terrific is described as being the "third smartest man in the world". Any idea who #2 and #1 in the DCU are? Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne?

I don't know that they've ever said. I'd have to think that at least one of them is one of the mad science crowd. Hector Hammond, maybe.

The first arc was underwhelming and apparently it went downhill from there (I've only read Public Enemies and Supergirl, the latter of which was awful).

Mark Verheiden's been writing it since #28, I think. There are two issues out for the current story. It was a while since I last read it (#29 came out in August and #30 comes out this month). It didn't seem too bad.

Pick up the annual that came out last week. It is terrific

What other sorcerors are there in the Marvel Universe? There don't seem to be too many.

    Dr. Strange

    Doom

    Scarlet Witch

    Is Clea still alive?

And then there's Wiccan and Nico, though they don't really know how to cast spells. Their magic is innate and unique, and didn't really require study.
