Is the Eternals by Neil Gaiman good? And if I read it, do I need to read the miniseries from before it (Eternal?) or the ooooooooold series by Kirby?

No, you do not need to read anything else. Read it. It's awesome.

You should read the old Eternals by Kirby though. I have the omnibus and it is stellar. I think that if the only comics I ever bought for the rest of my life were made by either Jack Kirby or Osamu Tezuka I could die a very happy man.

I have never read anything by Kirby. If I was going to read one thing (series?) to give it a whirl, what would it be?

P.S. The art in the new Eternals is pretty blech.

Like Terrorbyte said, his Fantastic Four run is amazing. Some other highlights are his Fourth World stuff, which is space age bible craziness, OMAC, which is fighting robotman future social commentary craziness, Kamandi, which is last man on earth mutant fighting craziness, or really pretty much anything the man touched. He was a pretty diverse creator, although he did operate under a superhero banner pretty much all the time.

There's a Fourth World Omnibus coming out in the spring, if you want to lay down some big bucks, but it's $49.99 for like a thousand pages of space god mayham, so it's a pretty good deal.

Those 2 pages look great to me, but then again, I'm simply in love with JRJR's style.
I ordered his Visionaries tome a few days ago, actually.

Gaiman and Romita jr. ? Sign me up. Eternals is now on my wishlist.
    Is it available in HC?

Oh wait, nevermind. I should look before I ask...

It's coming the 26th of April.

Totally buying it when the HC comes out.
I was tempted by the issues but it looked to be the kind of thing I'd want as a book.

Exactly. I generally prefer style over realism. In comics, videogames as well as other art forms.
It's just not for everyone. Different strokes and all that...

Romita jr. has a wonderful combination of Kirby, Romita sr. (among others) and rolls it all up in his own style. The only times I've seen his art being less than impressive, is when it's inked by someone who doesn't 'get' his style and ends up leaving out a lot of details.

It's probably why I really enjoy Sal Buscema's work as well, but I might be the minority on that.

Most of the issues in Hardcovers 2-6. 26ish to 81 with some one or two issue gaps in there.

I asked this at the Marvel panel at NYCC. Quesada said he genuinely didn't know . Which is an improvement over the last Cup of Joe panel's "We have no plans."

However, if the rumors that Rachel Grey is staying out in space after this Shiar arc are true, that sets the stage for Jean to come back pretty nicely.

Totally. When did Jean ever make Ms. Marvel cry? Never, that's when!

Unless she did, and I don't remember. Regardless, Emma's still cooler.

It'd be neat if she stayed on like that one Song LS, where she'll pop out for one story arc, then when that's done she'll jump back in her grave.

Here Comes Tomorrow and Endsong both kind of hint that Jean was never really 'dead'. I mean, she's basically the avatar of the universe's life force. Well, really, Endsong actually explicitly says she's still 'alive' in a certain sense, i think.

Because CB Cebulski needs to destroy Nico Minoru in this quarter's EVENT slot with MYSTIC ARCANA.

I am glad that the four issues don't really tie in, so I can just buy the Roy Thomas and Louise Simonson stuff.

If Jean Grey comes back, and Scott stops banging Emma because of Jean's return, I will never read another comic with Cyclops in it again. God, I fucking hate that character. Pining away for that psycho-bitch when he's got the hottest piece of ass imaginable already in his bed.

I would like to think that Jean would either end up with Logan or stay unattached for awhile if she came back.

But Scott's really quick to hop out of his current bed and come running back the second he thinks anyone else might be eyeing his goods up. Fuck, he founded X-Factor just to keep Warren from making a move on her.*

*not really, but pretty close. Thanks, John Byrne!
