because it isn't a list of good games....it's more of a list of games that sell for double the price they started out on on average. I researched ebay and amazon and other sites to see the average prices these games were sold at over the months so I think this list is solid, but any suggestions are GREATLY welcomed. If I were to add any others to the list it would be tetris ds and warioware touched...they are worth mentioning.
the moral of the story is that games are not the best investment
Unless you happen to own something like Pepsi Invaders.
But of course you're right, makes it kinda maddening that people assign arbitrary collector's values to these when they sell them secondhand. And thanks to online marketplaces everyone eventually follows suit (rightfully so, I guess, but not too many people are willing to pay these prices).
Clubhouse Games definitely strikes me as odd, I love that game but I would never think of it as valuable. Might be time to make a sequel for Wii or something. And that Atari "4 Game Fun Pack" is really peculiar.
I should pick up LOL soon, it sounds pretty fun and $20 will undoubtedly be the best price I'll find short of some eBay miracle.
yeah, i just don't understand why people pay so much for the 4 in 1...i've SEEN them bid that much on ebay in the past...i just don't get it
and speaking of ebay miracles....I got mech assult and metriod pinball together for the ds a couple months ago for 3 bucks and free shipping! i couldn't believe no one bid on it that day
I have Clubhouse games, pretty fun good, will never run out of replay value.
I'm considering buying Etrain Odyssey 2, but my backlog is already so epic I don't know if I'll ever actually get it. But if I don't get it now, it'll get expensive. Fucking Atlus, making me buy your games at launch.

I love Metroid Pinball, I'm pretty sure short of some GBA titles it's the only pinball great on the DS, excellent game. Mech Assault seems really awesome but I admittedly haven't had much time with it.

I ended up paying about $50 for Electroplankton including shipping costs, and it was completely worth it, even without the now inflated price. It's the only game on my shelf that people visiting will actually pull out and ask about, so I'm probably going to hang onto it for a while.
Edit: Also, the instruction manual is the cutest thing ever.
i personally don't care if my games are sealed out now, but i know some people do care
I don't care as much if disc based games are used, but cartridge games that have saves on the cart I don't like to buy used. So really, it's only DS games that I *have* to buy new now.
I just bought Space Invaders Extreme and it is outstanding. It's 20 dollars and is basically Space Invaders Championship edition. Crazy music and visuals, lots of different ways to get your score high (like color combos straight out of Ikaruga), a very fast pace, and you post your scores online.
I'm 718th in Amurikah. Come and get me motherfuckers.
LOL is basically a party game like Charades or Pictionary, except you use your DSs to draw pictures or words etc.
One person has an "answer" to the clues that the other players have to guess, then starts drawing or writing clues on the DS that is sent to the other players who have to guess the right "answer."
Somethign like that. I hope its more sophisticated than it sounds.
Here's the writeup from Agetec:
A unique, free-form gaming experience, LOL’s motto says it best: “If the game is boring, then you are boring.” LOL is played by one of the players making a challenge in writing to the others. The crazier the challenge, the more fun everyone will have. The person who delivered the challenge chooses an appropriate time limit, and everyone has to answer the challenge on their touch screen however they see fit – with words, pictures, or whatever comes to mind. The host reveals the answers, and everyone votes on a winner who will then decide on the challenge for the next round. Always different and a blast to play every time, LOL will, as its name implies, make everyone laugh out loud. [Agetec]
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow: Even now, Konami’s first DS Castlevania title’s price is slowly rising, due to fans keeping copies they own and no new ones being produced. Castlevania‘s nostalgia factor alone will incite high prices among fans.
What?
They reprinted Dawn of Sorrow in large quantities as a best-seller, for $20, you know, with the meta box art.
well yeah i think if the gamertell one is going to include jump ultimate stars, then they could at least include the game and watch gallery collection or something.
sorry bl, i thought you were talking about my list
Wow and to think I picked up my copy of clubhouse games for 7 dollars on clearance. I mean, it's good fun yes, but 40 dollars fun? I don't know.
You'd figure that atlus would realize this phenomenon of their games skyrocketing in price after a while. Print up a whole bunch at the beginning and then re-release a batch after the price rises. Might be able to double their profits for some games if they did that.

I happened to encounter a Japanese rerelease of Tactics Ogre for the GBA by chance not too long ago and bought it for approximately a fiver. I do know that the US version is almost impossible to find and must be worth a few pennies by now. This thread reminds me to purchase Etrian Odyssey immediately whenever I spot one on shelves.
The most I spent on a DS game is $45 which was Ouendan 2. I might import the new Fire Emblem depending on the NA release date which will probably set a new record.
I don't see why publishers even LET their games become rare when the platform itself is still around.
For instance, the people that made Clubhouse games. If people are paying THAT MUCH for it, the Publisher is absolutely NUTS to not re-publish it. Call it a "Platinum Edition", and tag an extra 10 bucks on its original price (to take advantage of the fact that people are obviously willing to pay more for it), and sell it to the craving masses who are more than willing to throw their money at you rather than a stranger on eBay.
I can understand (obviously) publishers not re-publishing games from prior generations... but the DS is in OUR generation. And unless there's something important I'm missing here, the squeals coming from Demand on these games means that the Publisher could still make a LOT of money if they actually created more supply.
I have my doubts here. Electroplankton is relatively easy to come up with new as nobody really bought it. That second article claims prices as Amazon as evidence but that is well known to be a format where people make shit up. Of course it also includes Castlevania and Advance Strike DS, and both of those are also rather common.
Etrian Odyssey is not too hard to find around here, for an Atlus title anyway.
I bought Electroplankton a few months ago from a greasy dude who sold used games at my school. It's not in the best condition, but it was $15 and only the second copy I'd ever seen (I didn't know how rare it was when I saw the first one).
everybody is going mad bidding on the sealed american electroplankton while there is a european one sitting right under it that is also sealed, and no one has touched that one yet.
i guess people just want their games to be american >_>

I bought Electroplankton used from Blockbuster for $10. I didn't "get" it though so it's barely been touched. None of my friends who have tried it were ever into it either.

Exactly what i was thinking, In Australia when Guitar Hero 3 became absolutely massive, there was a huuuge demand for it and no one could supply, you would try and buy it and get told it was going to be another 2 weeks, go back and they would tell you another two weeks, Why wouldn't they stock pile for a while before they released the game? Ebay bids on the bundle were through the roof!

I think at this point, Atlus games having low print runs is part of their business strategy.
If the game's a hit, they win, and it becomes highly sought after.

I have that and Clubhouse Games, actually.
Don't think I'd want any of the others.
Edit: I had Metroid Pinball but ended up giving it away to a friend.
I had picked it up at CC for like $7.96 so it wasn't a huge loss.

Wow.
Also, the sequel just came out; apparently it's really, really good.
So buy it up now before it turns out rare like the first! And every other Atlus game!

You have to buy it now.

Oh well, so that means I have 3 of the 4 games. Never heard of LOL.
Reminds me, anyone seen Eyes5 lately? She'll probably show up again when AC:Wii is released.

and
although i own all the club nintendo ds games ^_^
oh and LOL hasn't come yet, i ordered it. I'm am not expecting it a 10/10 game though
i imagine that i would have a couple slaphappy times with it though, idk

this one obviously wont for a long time, but it will someday in the far away future
and since it is for the ds, it probably won't be remade much in the future!

along with yoshi's island and warioware, which aren't worth as much probably

You're more than welcome to hit the report button.
You are not welcome to do this.
Its borderline, but I think the thread that spawned before we got to it is worthwhile and thus it slips into the void.
