I forget the exact artist, but there are a series of images featuring the same character that are supposed to symbolize different negative human emotions. embarrasment, impotency etc.

It was from an artist who did a series of pictures with that doll. I forget the name, but it was fairly famous at the time.

That was NOT what I had envisioned.

Oh please, someone, know the answer.

    I weep for that artist's self-image.

The artist's name is Charlie White.

That Photo is from a series he did in 2001, and apparently that thing is named Joshua.

Here is a link to his website (there is some nudity in places, so I'll say it's NSFW, but nothing really X-rated)

    Enjoy!

The beautiful thing about art is that it's quality is subjective, because I strongly disagree with you on all accounts.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say it's not art. Just I don't see how it's art. I fully respect someone that views it as art, because each person has their own opinion of what art is and what it consists of. The images are just too surreal for me to enjoy it as art. I'm not a big art person either, so a lot of what people view as art, I just don't get.

Art to me is Escher. I find his art very thought provoking.

I stared at this image (and others in his collection) for a long time. it even prompted me to find out exactly who he was. This is MUCH more then I have done for 90% of the art I have seen in a gallery or other public place.

for some people, art is simply a tool to evoke emotions, discussion, and to make you challenge your preconceptions. This certainly does that.

    I've seen this series before;

It's an interesting idea, and I will grant that it has artistic merit.

But that fucking Joshua doll does something to my subconscious. Just opening the pic (without knowing what it was) gave me that little panic/fear jolt that screamers give me. And I've even seen that pic before.

Yes me too. This gives me the same kind of creeps that supposed alien photos or videos do. Something in my brain panics when it sees a semi human photographic image.

If it was just Joshua by himself doing stuff, it wouldn't be that bad. When he is put side by side, interacting with real people, that just freaks me the hell out.

The funny part about that picture in particular, is everyone immediately assumes that Joshua is the monster when you first look at it. If you notice the body language in the photo, however, you'll notice that Joshua is being restrained by one of the guys while two other guys physically / sexually assault a female friend of his. He is actually trying to help her, and he's helpless, while the 3 other 'normal' looking guys in the picture are the real monsters.

It's a fascinating way to get people to question initial impressions.
