    Round one: Diceland.
    Round two: DDR.
    Round three: More DDR.
Round four: A marathon (26.2 miles)
Round five (if you can still stand): The Gauntlet*
Round six: The secret surprise round. Rumors have it that the round consists of Tycho and Gabe suiting up in small-sized Mechs and hunting down the last two Omeganauts. The one to survive wins the Omegathon prize, half of the Penny Arcade fortune, and their freedom.

*Something involving lots of whips, chains, and hungry lions.

I hear the only way to win is to look up the cheat code.

I don't remember ever actually playing Hungry Hungry Hippos (or H3 for the hip crowd) by the rules. I just enjoyed working my mechanical hippo.

Are there actual rules for "H3" beyond hitting the lever as fast as you can and then counting the number of marbles you grabbed? If so, I never bothered to learn them.

    Stolen from the Omeganaut thread:
I got my call from Khoo, at around one in the afternoon. I was actually on the highway when I received it. It was a brief affair -
"Are you still going to PAX?"
    "But of course."
"Do you still want to be in the Omegathon again?"
"Most definitely. Do you know what the games are gonna be?"
"I think they're up on the schedule already."
    "Oh wow, really?"
"Wait, I lied. It's not up. First round is going to be Diceland again, though."
"What a shocking turn of events."

Good luck, everyone! It's pretty nerve-wracking, and intense, but is still a lot of fun. My only goal is to not go out first round - that would be terribly embarrassing, to get second one year and not even clear Diceland the next.

So, looks like we have a pretty solid confirmation that Diceland is first round again.

    Woohoo!

Well, seeing as how Diceland was the first game the past two years, that's a pretty safe bets.

Other safe bets would be Mario Kart: Double Dash, Quake, and Guitar Hero. The first two because they happened both years (At least, I think Quake happened first year, too), and Guitar Hero because the stage game seems to change, and the PA dudes are pretty fond of Guitar Hero, and it's a real crowd-pleaser even in a small setting.

Nopes, actually, it was Doom II the first year.

Ah, I was indeed mistaken. So the FPS is up in the air, still.

Well, Doom II was 94, Quake was 96... Quake 2, maybe? Assuming a forward procession, that is.

    Hahaha.

I think that wouldn't be fair to the fairer of the sex competing. Unless they're big and tough like German women. Seriously, I have been on a couple German airliners staffed with mostly female German flight attendants, and no terrorist would *ever* try to take over one of their planes. I mean, those girls could take me in a fight easily, and I'm 6'4" and in pretty good shape.

And, as for Daikatana? Hahaha, silly John Romero.

Daikatana is the monster that still lives under my bed, threataning to consume my pinky toes should I dare go to the bathroom with the lights off.

on an unrelated note- just thinking of the possibility of Guitar Hero as one of hte games makes me all twichy. The sheer awsomeness of that particular round would likely have my head dangerously near spontanious combustion.

It doesn't really matter, does it? The skills are fairly universal.

Practice with a good PC shooter. The current 'reference' shooter is Quake III (yes, the one that's five years old). It's cheap, you can pick it up almost anywhere, etc. Start with that, then as soon as you hear back on the real game, move over to that.

I'm pretty sure they'll let us know what the games are, unless they have changed policy since last year. Also, I am betting that the FPS round will be the Original Unreal Tournament. I think it would make sense to have it next.

    Lol.

They should have one of the rounds be a 24 hour GT4 endurance race. That'll teach those guys for... being selected for the omegathon.

Haha, yeah, that'll teach us for being lucky, lucky bastards! =P I say the luckiest guy on earth is the guy who got chosen for the Omegathon last year after also being in the first one. Now THAT is crazy. The odds of that are incredibly low.

I don't see why the runner up from the previous year shouldn't be in the next one all the time. Might even make for some interesting long term interest, say some poor sap gets second place two years running, will he ever make it?! Though there is the issue that getting second place that much would net you some pretty awsome prizes even if you don't get the grand ole big one. So I'd say a max of 1 reapperance out of fairness for other attendee's eagerly awaiting their turn.

The runner up from the 2004 Omegathon was automatically entered in the 2005 Omegathon. That's a rule. And it applies this year as well.

However, there was also another Omeganaut from 2004 who, by pure chance, happened to be selected for the 2005 Omeganaut.

So, in 2005, there were two repeat players: one intentional, one by chance.

    At least, that's my understanding...
