Ringtone problem

So, heres my problem. I just got a new phone. My other phone was VERY old, and the ringtones didn't sound like real instruments, they sounds like little beeps, like you would imagine a cell phone ring to sound. So if I downloaded a ringtone of a song, it was kind of cool because it was the song, just in little beeps and blips, again, like you'd imagine a cell phone ring to sound.

Now, with my new phone, the ringtones are clips of the actual song, which I dislike. I want my ringtone to be like it would have been on my old phone, a real song, just converted into cell phone sounds. If this is hard to understand, let me know.

How would I go about this? I'm sure theres some way for me to purchase that kind of ringtone somewhere, but I really know nothing about phones. Thanks.

Also, my phone is an AT&T LG phone, if that matters.

You need to look for polyphonic ringtones. Your phone almost certainly supports them, but most of them that came on the phone are probably what are referred to as truetones or realtones (mp3, aac, etc.). Most place you might try to buy ringtones from (for some silly reason as they are way overpriced) will normally try to default to a realtone, too.

There are some pieces of software and a website or two that will convert mp3 to a midi (polyphonic). Just google for convert mp3 to midi or whatever and you should get some hits. Occasionally I have to do this at work when I can't be bothered to wait for the guys who are supposed to do such things to do it.

I don't know how AT&T works, but with T-Mobile the ringtones are classified as either MegaTones (which are polyphonic, the type you want) or Hi-Fi Ringers (MP3 ringtones, which you don't want)

I would recommend maybe calling customer service and asking them if they still sell the two different types of ringtones.
