If he had declined we would have gotten a Melee port with online as a Wii launch title.
Funnily enough, he accepted and we did get a Melee port without the online and way past launch.
Please tell me this is a fakepost
I really enjoyed Brawl, but I was thinking the exact same damned thing. Brawl is fun as shit, but the differences between it and Melee are so subtle, only the most hardcore players would really notice a difference.
Having the same basic gameplay and structure does not equal port
If that was the case HL2: episodes 1 and 2 would be considered ports.
No, it's more like the difference between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3.

Thank you.
There are three things that make Brawl not Melee in my opinion:
More music
More stages
More characters
That's it.
Also a single player mode
And online play, however terrible it is
And a stage creator
And more items
The only good thing about SP was the cutscenes, I'd rather forget online play even existed, and the two other, well, I guess, but they're not that important to me.

Uh, are we ignoring all the competitive changes, to AT's and such? That pretty much ruined the game for me (for now), but if we're sweeping that under the rug as too hardcore, nevermind.
If these are all on the same time table, Leizpig or the GDC is going to be a fucking bombshell.
Or PAX. Wouldn't it be "teh shit" if they unveiled Kid Icarus Wii or something by having a playable Demo at PAX?

It just ocurred to me that the best thing to come of all this is that now I can start digging into my monumental backlog without adding anything to it for awhile.

If you're saying that Brawl is less hardcore or competitive than Melee, then I say it only makes Brawl much better than Melee, but since I don't care about that part of the games, it's not really a change to me.
There would be no better way to prove that they haven't foresaken their core gamer audience than to show off their stuff at a conference created by that very audience.

You are very wrong, but even just that makes it much more than a "port."
Oh god dammit now I have created an impossible scenario in my mind which is utterly insurmountable by anything that is likely to happen in real life.
Then again,
It's not impossible, is it?
PAX 08: hands-on pikmin 3, kid icarus, pilotwings, videos of mario galaxy 2, mushroom kingdom RPG and mario kart expansion pack.
Announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3 for wii with nintendo worlds as well as disney. Namco making a zelda fighting game using soul calibur engine. Storage solution announced.

I'm not sure exactly how many people do care about that, especially compared to others who don't, but I do know the competitive scene has pretty much entirely shunned Brawl save for those desperately trying to come up with advanced techniques. And as far as anecdotal evidence, my friends who played melee a lot grew tired of Brawl very quickly, as did I, and many have gone back to playing Melee.
I don't think this is too relevant anymore, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
it'd be great if they were making, I dunno, ANYTHING I cared about
warioland? *shrugs*
thats about it for me
Yeah, me too.
I'm not making excuses for them, but there's enough third party stuff to fill in the gap that at least makes it better then some of the years of the GC where there was nothing worth playing.

Like what? Personally, I'm thinking "Reggie and a squad of crack Myamoto-trained ninjas interrupt the Keynote address to announce English Mother 3 Demos will be available in the lobby."
But then again, I'm half asleep and obsessed with ninjas tonight for some reason.

From the perspective of organising a brawl tournament at a con next week, I can tell you there are enough of the competitives who do want to play still. And they're being a pain in my arse. But that's really getting OT.

Oh, I wouldn't ever play Melee OVER Brawl, it's just that I've played Melee so much and Brawl is too similar. Also, one important factor is that my friends and I don't have as much free time to all gather around and play 4-player games anymore. Real life is not like high school and college. When we gather up, we usually play Rock Band.
I wished I got more hooked into Brawl, I mean, it IS a great game, and with the "competitive" posse out, I could have participated in some forms of tourneys for kicks, but I dunno... I got burned on the game too fast.

There, I think I'm being reasonable.
Could... could we add Smash Bros DS, a FF3/4-style remake of FF6, Mother 1-3 on Virtual Console, and a Starfox game that doesn't suck?
I see my brother starting high school now, enjoying Brawl with his friends like I enjoyed Smash Bros 64 with mine. I will never be able to appreciate Brawl and play it in the way I played 64, but it warms my heart that my little brother has the opportunity.

Is that the woman who did the Nintendo presentation? I religiously watch every Nintendo E3 press conference as soon as I can (usually it's the live stream), but I couldn't watch this one. The presenter got on my nerves after 2 minutes and I had to turn it off.
Dareth: Oh, don't worry, I know that. Still, if Brawl stood out more, the few times we manage to gather around the TVs would be spent playing it and not other games. We're favoring stuff over Brawl, while Melee and SSB64 were the highlight of our gaming sessions.

The story of the starfox wii game involves fox breaking his legs, leaving him only able to use the arwing or landmaster. Uh... slippy broke the submarine.. thing.
Oh, and zelda wii demo. It's called "the legend of zelda: it's not steampunk and it never will be".
I made the (apparently wise) decision to not watch the conferences this year. I went afterwards to watch the part I was interested in (wii music) and saw everyone swinging their remotes around and not being able to tell what went with what on the screen and went "meh". Highlight of e3: "awhile" in the mm9 opening video preview.

Eh, here's the best part of everything.
X-Box 360
- Interface overhaul.
- FFXIII is coming to it.
Wii
- WiiMotion+ will make the Wiimote into what it should have been in the first place (1:1 gaming)
- New Pikmin is in the works.
PS3
Not really sure on this one yet, haven't really looked yet.
Don't bother with Capcom's, though... Holy shit it was horrible.
I said to myself, "If we don't see it at E3, I'm going to assume it's canceled."
I didn't see much at E3, so I'm going to re-evaluate that conclusion.
But seriously, I want Crystal Bearers to come. It looks amazing.
Then there's this quote I found on the wikipedia page for Crystal Bearers: "In March 2008, an official advertising article about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates noted that the Nintendo DS installment "sets the stage" for The Crystal Bearers."

The Sony highlights were God of War 3, Infamous and Resistance 2. The latter two for looking pretty damn awesome (I might go ahead and say that Resistance 2 looks better than Gears 2), the first just for the "Yeah, it's coming" factor.
For the second year running, I'd have to say that of the three console makers, Sony has the most appealing games as far as I'm concerned.
Of course, with RE5, MM9 and Dead Rising Wii, I'd say the actual winner this year is Capcom anyway. :P

WiiMusic had the potential of being incredibly awesome.
MadWorld, Rune Factory, Fatal Frame IV, Dead Rising Wii, Mushroom Men, Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of Symphonia KoR, Fragile, Deadly Creatures, etc.
While the list is good, it's kind of spread out.
But wow is it a step in a weird direction.
