Wait, was there anything horribly racist about Mr. Sandman? I don't even remember him having puffy racist Donut Lips.
No. In fact, I can't think any Punch-Out character that would have extreme racial features.
Indeed. Games don't need to be fully PC, even today. It all boils down to the stereotypes portrayed. Are they light-hearted and funny and don't hurt anyone, or do they relate to a dark period of history?
There'd be a huge difference between a german boxer who had short hair, a square head and blonde mustache being called Boxinghachenstung than one actually looking like Hitler, for example.
what if they had a zelda game where you had three parts, one where you play as link, one as zelda, the other aas gannondorf. it would be pretty sweet to be able to play the bad guy as you rebuild you evil powers with the boss fights being various good guys from the link games

Smash Bros Melee or Brawl will solve that. Though, I think it's stupid to play one character and then FIGHT that character later. It's essentially saying, "I am amazing ... but only at certain times" where those certain times are where you, the player, are controlling the character. The moment you take control of Ganondorf, if you die to a small, angry plant ... isn't that the same thing as winning? And yet, you'd get the game over screen, and it doesn't make any sense.
I was reading through the thread and I noticed this lime-green nugget of brilliance, so I thought I'd point it out so that more people could agree and possibly will this game into existence. IV's and epic-slow (for a game that's over 95% about grinding out levels) battles are what drew me away from this otherwise awesome series.
For this, one can hope and hope and hope and hope.

Hope.
IVs are shit but there isn't a ton of level grinding in the multiplayer since it automatically scales all your guys to either 50 or 100.
That said I would definitely like that, but for whatever reason I think Nintendo wants the mainline Pokemon games to be strictly handheld.

While I like this idea, I really can't see Gannondorf roaming the countryside grinding Moblins for rupees.
As for Zelda, the Link as Gandalf idea really appeals to me. Maybe you can play a character partaking in the battle between light and dark. Link is the commander of a huge army battling Ganon's evil army. The player could take control of one of the smaller, nobody soldiers. A choice early in the game would decide whether you fought on Link's side, or Ganon's side. Of course, circumstance would lead to your character ultimately deciding the fate of the entire war.
Or maybe, they tell the story of the hero of light again, but in the way distant future. Or even present time, and Hyrule is similar to modern day Earth. Just posting off the top of my head, here.
Of course, I would be shocked if there wasn't another New Super Mario Bros. That idea of a Wii Ware update of the battle mode from that game also seems rather obvious.

You know they tried something similar to that in MGS2 but everyone bitched about it.

I think something like this could work if it was in the vein of Starcraft's campaign. You divide it into 3 parts and you start by playing Link/Zelda's section of the game, then Gannon's and finally the other good guy's section. Initial discovery and begin fighting evil, evil rising, more fighting and ultimately defeat of evil. Seems easy enough.
You honestly wouldn't have to change much of the basic Zelda formula for such a game. Infact, the only truly necessary differences would be playing part of the game as Zelda and Gannon and making new mechanics for them. Of course Nintendo might not want to take a fairly family friendly IP and have you play as Gannon running around hurting and oppressing people.
Despite that I think the idea of playing as Zelda for parts of the game might have some potential.

i think if you made it more gannon ruining someones shit for experience/goals rather than rupies in order to get back his power might be better. kind of in the vein of overlord
I don't mean this offensively but I am always reading about peoples suggestions for the next Zelda game should be "play as Ganon" or "fight in a huge war" and I would just hate to see this. I don't think that the war idea is very Zelda like and the playing as Ganon one is little more than a gimmick to me. Like Future Zelda it doesn't really update anything.
A new Zelda game doesn't really need to change the fundamentals too much in my opinion. It just needs to be remade from the ground up again rather than updates on the previous titles, which is what they have done for the past few games.

Zelda could use a revamp
Specifically a story revamp
Something like Ninja Gaiden or Prince of Persia, keep the same general theme or tone but mix it up with different character design and new gameplay mechanics and environments and stuff
I would buy a radically different Zelda on day one
I don't think it's possible for a new Zelda to please everyone. Either people are going to complain that it's too samey, or another group are going to complain that it's not samey enough.

The group that would complain if it wasn't samey enough will still buy it though because it is Zelda

I know it'll sound blasphemes or w/e, and I've been playing Metroid since it came out so don't call me a metroid noob, but I'd like Dread to be where Samus actually talks for once, and her ship detects chozo artifacts on a seemingly remote planet, but this planet is actually the home of Ridley and Kraids ilk and you have to fight his ilk to get the various artifacts, and brand new stuff like as follows. 3d, but done in the style of Super Metroid, what with it basically being open world. And none of this "opening a door loads the room first" crap, do it GTA style with it loading up large sectors at once. And finally, suit customization ala Super Metroid.
Power Beam- standard beam
Charge beam- charges beam shots.
Gatlinger Beam- auto-fire beam, weaker than normal and no charging but rapid fire can't be used with wrath or charge.
Shadow Beam- the good old fashioned wave beam that actually passes through everything but enemies.
Wrath Beam- the old school plasma beam, green energy that kills stuff dead can't be used with gatlinger.
Ice beam- classic ice beam.
We'd have our lava world of course, and the green leafy side, and probably some underwater stuff, as well as a dark zone and a solid ice one, and a dozen more or so, and each boss would be a Kraid/Ridley sibling that reflects that zone (lava would be your standard space dragon, dark you'd only see its eyes, etc etc

I'd just like to have a Metroid game where Samus doesn't mysteriously lose half her suit's power-ups between now and the previous game and furthermore doesn't also have the remaining few destroyed in a completely contrived and very specific manner halfway through the first cutscene.
Seriously you guys, Samus is now literally fused to her armour, part chozo, part metroid and part shape-shifting parasite, not to mention whatever else she got from months of phazon exposure. She should be able to crack planets with a look by now, and I want a game where not only is this an option, it's a trivial one.

i always thought that when she absorbed the SA-X, she was restored to her normal state. I figured that she reabsorbed her normal DNA code, and just had a suit that was shaped like the Fusion suit because that's what she wore last. It seemed to me that the Samus was basically back to normal.
Given the bad blood between Silicon Knights and Nintendo the lack of Eternal Darkness is no surprise.
Why would that matter when Nintendo completely owns the IP?
Doesn't that still make it a third-party property, though? And they only tossed in two characters, total, of that criteria. Plus, it still was a single game released recently and that didn't, to my knowledge, sell that well. Not to mention that it's a very M-rated series; sticking Lovecraftian horrors into a Smash Brothers game is amusing, it might be tricky.

I agree with the having Samus talk part. I actually thought it was weird that Samus didn't talk at all in cut scenes in Prime 3. It's not as if she's never said anything in other games either. She has lengthy monologues at the beginning of Super Metroid and throughout Metroid Fusion.

Animal Crossing Wii would be fabulous. I'm already still going strong on the DS version, that shit just don't get old to me. Kind of sad they didn't do much updating of the game with the wifi capabilities though, like uploading new things for neighbors to say and whatever. Maybe that will change with the Wii version.

God if Animal Crossing Wii came out and got regular updates and had some decent online component I'd basically play that for months

I could definitely see her voice actress from Brawl taking a lengthier dialogue bit in the next Metroid.
Remember waaay back when they showed us the first screens of the Wii Channels? Remember the envelope on the Wii Message Board with Tom Nook's seal on it? Animal Crossing Wii is totally coming this year. And I imgaine it will use Wii Connect 24 unlike any game we have seen thus far.
We know Factor 5 is working on a Wii game. The buzz on the interwebs points to them working on Kid Icarus. But there's no real evidence supporting this. What if they're working on another game? What if they're working on Starfox? Good lord, think about that for a moment.
Kirby is the last of the Gamecube abortions that we haven't seen yet (Super Paper Mario and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast having made the transition to Wii). A Kirby game using the Smash Bros. engine featuring stacking power-stealing? Yes, please!
Disaster DOC I have wanted for sooo long. I want a modern Prince of Persia where the environment is you biggest enemy. I want a new, mature IP from Nintendo in a bad way.
I'd love to see a new Metroid but I don't think it will happen this year. A new Zelda could certainly happen. They've had nearly three years since the completion of the Gamecube TP.
I also predict that we'll see a first-party Balance Board game. Punch Out would be a great fit. If Punch Out comes out this year, it will be interesting to see how it competes with EA's Facebreaker which has generously borrowed from Punch Out's questionable racial stereotyping.

D/P have the vast majority of all pokemon in the game, catchable.
The rest? Trade for them online.
As for the pace, I compare pokemon to an MMO.
You can breed a pokemon good enough for battle (not perfect though) in an hour or two.
How many weeks of total gameplay time does it take to get a competitive end game calibur WoW character?
The choice is obvious.
While I like this idea, I really can't see Gannondorf roaming the countryside grinding Moblins for rupees.

Some of us have other things to do besides grinding forever, and still like the competitive part of a game.
If you want to skip all that, you can always go play shoddybattle or use pokesav or something (you cheater)
Edit: I think the "best-case" scenario as far as IVs go is that one day nintendo goes nuts and sells IV-increasing items for wii points.
