What are your opinions on the game? It looks pretty cool and I was thinking about getting it, but I want to get some impressions first.

Don't do it, it takes everything good about EE 1 and 2, shits on them, throws them out the window and replaces them with..nothing =/

Yeah, that's what I've gathered from reading more about it online. It's a shame, because it looked really cool. Any other suggestions? Something that takes place on a large scale.

Turn based or real time? Grandiose or Focused? Old or New?

There quite a few good strategy games out there.

EDIT: Oh yeah EE3 blows goats. Don't do it to yourself!

    So basically it changes nothing.

Like I said, large-scale. Doesn't matter how old or when it takes place.

You've probably already played it but Medieval 2: total war is probably as large scale as it gets

Rise of Nations is like EE (except good) with a little Civilization thrown in. You should give it a try.

Total War is a great series for large scale.

Also, maybe try Seven Kingdoms. Its fantasy based and an RTS, but its really quite deep.

The greatest large scale game I've ever played however was Space Empires IV: Gold. If you wanna conquer the galaxy, this is the way to do it.

Supreme Commander? That's pretty damn large-scale.

Ohhh I LOVE Space Empires IV, just sad that the AI sucks and you will either beat it constantly in tactical combat or lose ships senselessly in Strategic.
Still a great game and I recommend taking a good look at the mods for it if you buy it (can be gotten on Steam).

Which Seven Kingdoms game? Seven Kingdoms from 1997 or the new one that came out called Seven Kingdoms: Conquest? I saw the box for Conquest in stores and was looking at it, but I ultimately went with Heroes V. It seems like that was the best choice, as Conquest is pretty universally panned.

I've never been a big fan of the Empire Earth series.

They were never that fun to me and I love that type of gameplay

Hmm, I tried out Alpha Centauri and really enjoyed that. Are Civ III and IV similar?

Civ IV is great, but I've never played Civ III so I couldn't say.

I haven't tried Alpha Centauri yet, I got the disks a while back but Civ 3 and 4 are great. Your right though it's really to bad about Empire Earth 3 it really really sucked. It was so toned down and boring. I thought the first two were great as well. Dawn of War with all the expanions is pretty sweet as well as supreme commander

Pretty much. Same basic gameplay, although the actual system mechanics differ somewhat

CivIV is probably closer to SMAC than Civ III is. It's also better all-around.
