[SPLIT] Slow forums

I've noticed that the forums have felt... unresponsive all day. Often times I have to click a link over and over for a minute or two to get into a thread.

Yeah, same problem. I seem to have to click everything twice just to get it to load.

Hm. I think I know what is causing that. Is this a problem for many other people?

I'm having the same issue alpha. Also, ocassionally I will get the "You have been banned" message when I try to enter a thread or another subforum.

For a brief period of time, when I was just lurking on the forums, a message "You are banned from these forums" popped up.

I closed the window, opened a new one, and the screen went away. My name isn't in the "who got banned" thread, so I think it's a bug.

Whatever you did, it really seems to have worked. Things are moving very, very quickly now.

    Great job, Alpha.

I'm getting intermittent slowness from the forums. Every few minutes it starts to take a long time (a minute or so) to load a page, then goes back to normal.

It just happened again to me. It's more like every 15-20 minutes.
I guess it might be a different problem than what was happening before, maybe just something wrong with me.

Edit: ok, the timing is pretty random. It's happened more frequently just now. When it happens the site just stops for 30 seconds to a minute, can't load any pages, but I don't get an error or page not found. It keeps thinking it's loading but nothing happens until the slowdown goes away. Clicking other links or refreshing runs into the same problem.

    This is interesting...

I hit my first slowdown for the day, and when I got into SE++, this happened:

Sometimes it takes a good minute or two for a page to load (if at all). But it's not a permanent thing, once it loads the forum will be well again, if only for a while.

Happens mostly when I submit a post, but on occasion I get it when trying to see a thread or other part of the forums.

Yeah I know about this bug. In a cruel twist of fate, our load balancer has a bug in it that causes it to reboot which takes 60-70 seconds. I know. I have awesome luck. I've got a call into support, and this is a severity two service interruption, so it should be resolved sooner rather than later.

Yeah, sometimes I can't get into a forum or thread. It's very slow, and I often get TimeOut errors.

On occasion closing and reoponing FireFox (w/ latest updates) fixes it short term, but that lasts about 6min or so, then the same thing happens. And the mroe I close and reopen the less it works.

Started this morning. I click a link it seems to be loading fine, but then stalls out. I hit refresh and page loads quite quickly.

IE 6, XP Pro, no tabbed browsing.

Thanks Alpha for all you do.

I have to click on everything twice. Been like that for about a week now. Also today the comic isn't loading. That's not new either, seems like the front page gets updated before the comic goes up. Often hours before...

Oh also, if I hit F5 (reload) nothing happens, ever. It just sits there churning and I have to hit STOP, BACK, etc..

I can barely do anything between the hangs. It was a struggle merely to post this.

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with this, but only in Firefox. Usually when something doesn't work in FF and I assume that it should, I check it out using IE. It's been loading perfectly with IE, but with FF I haven't been able to get anything to load for the past several minutes. I'm going to say that's probably just a coincidence though. Or maybe a conspiracy.

uh...well, would the setting for when it times out be tied to the browser?

if it was kinda marginal, that could be the diffrence.

I'm getting a lot of time out errors in firefox, if that is not what you are talking about.

In Safari, it works fine for a while, but slows down the longer I'm on.

However, when I reload from the my bookmark for the index, it goes back to average speed.

fucking wierd. Just stoped working. I tried it in IE it worked. Then it worked in firefox. I like, right away it started working. like, would be a hell of a coincidence if it was something purely load related.

    wacky.

Yes, that is what I was referring to. As I said, it could just be a matter of the forums being temporarily wonky and the whole browser thing could be purely coincidental.

Yeah, same here. It works for a few minutes, then it stops. I close firefox and open it back up and a few minutes later it stops again.
