I like Otacon. That is, I don't dislike him.

I like Raiden too. That is, I would like to wake up and stare lovingly into his eyes as he sleeps. <3

    Eng game Raiden Spoiler
    Gekko's with his fucking feet.

I don't think he has his old arms and legs back, or maybe never lost them. His arms have strange seems and marking and little points that look like places something used to puncture the skin.

Personally I think he's still a cyborg, he's just been given more humanlike prosthetics so he can try to live a life.
They are "new" parts. A lot of the tattoos he had in MGS2 are gone. Also, it's explained in the database what happened to him.
    It wasn't by choice.

He knows Naomi for like 48 hours maximum, and yet I'm supposed to believe that they've got some super-strong emotional bond with each other? I think that I'm supposed to feel bad for Otacon's loss during the end of Act IV, but it comes across as downright goofy.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way.
I broke out laughing when, in his most dramatic voice, he yelps out, "Why does this keep happening to me!?" It's so overwrought and the voice actor is putting like 60% or so into it.

I guess Otacon doesn't get laid much. He's that clingy guy everybody knows who gets a little and falls head over heels into love with some one-night stand. Snake should have thrown him a few scraps.

It's like one of my Japanese animes!
    Are you an Otaku too?

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

    Which room?

You can always just use a chaff grenade to get past them. It basically completely shuts them down.

    Alright

    Act 5
The microwave room. How close do you have to be to the end door to trigger the cutscene? I know I never quite make it but it always triggers it. This time I left the controller untouched and died in the first room. But god, pounding on Triangle was a bitch.

I would have preferred a QTE.

I highly recommend playing random music during the last fight with Liquid.

I got "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" by Paul McCartney, and when it switched to the Snake Eater theme, "Juke Box Hero" kicked in and it was awesome.

If there's a way to control the random music, I'm assuming this is an xbox feature, you should get it to play "I can't stop looooooooooooooving youuuuuu".

So I finished the game and was gonna do a second playthrough. The aim is to get stuff to do a bb extreme bb run, I can collect items on any difficulty right.

What do I have to look for as far as goals to get set up for that. I've been avoiding all the spoilers as they came along in the thread so I don't really know. Anyone wanna give me a spoilerific write up of what I need to get the next run through? Just assume I have nothing, it's easier and I wont complain if you tell me stuff I know.

I would probably say: Solar Gun, Emotion Ammo, Chaff Grenades, and a masochistic streak rivaling that of cyber-ninja Gray Fox.

Honestly, I probably could have, but I already knew where most of the anesthetic rounds were from my 3 previous runs, and I also had the guide next to me so I knew more or less where any anesthetic ammo was if I really needed it. I didn't use my Mosin Nagant or any of my emotion ammo pretty much at all. It was nearly all Mk. 2 work, but I still tried to stick mostly to sneaking by people since it's usually quicker that way.

But yeah, you can hold 50 Mk. 2 and Mosin-Nagant rounds, plus either 25 or 50 rounds of the emotion ammo. Make sure to buy Stun Grenades that you can use in the grenade launchers, as it's pretty useful in the scripted fights. 25 V Ring rounds are a must, too. You will want at least one kind of Emotion grenade to use during Act 3, as they help out a lot. I can't really think of much else besides that. Good luck with it.

I didn't personally use the Solar gun much, really only attempted it on the beauties and on Vamp. It really helps with Vamp, but I didn't find it particularly useful for the Beauties.

Edit: Yeah, it's the gun from Boktai, Shoe.

What does a little yellow ribbon next to an emblem mean?

I think it means it's the highest or "best" emblem you've unlocked. Which one is it next to?

It was next to Fox...and inchworm. I got inchworm on my first playthrough. I barely crawled on my speedrun (obviously).

It's the highest emblem you got on a playthrough yea.

So, Big Boss run-throughs. There were several trouble spots that could probably be avoided being slightly more prepared than I was.

    Act I
Pretty easy. Just take it kinda slow while you're making your way to the Mk.II. Make sure you compensate for the guards supersonic hearing, even the full speed crouch run will be heard.

A good tip for the underground Militia section: have the militia costume. You can find it in a locker in the underground militia part and it means you can just sprint straight through. I did not do this and I lost about 10 minutes working my way through.

Regarding the Frogs. Let Rat Patrol do most of the work, just helping them out when they're getting overwhelmed. In the section where Akiba shits himself, stay in the staircase and wait. That part is totally scripted and the Rat Patrol won't get hit once, so just hide and wait.

After that, Act 1 is pretty easy.

    Act II
The first area is probably the hardest. I got seen on this part more than any other 'sneaking' part (This was probably due to my lack of ammo, but still :/) Just run behind all the building and ignore the rebels. Take your time as you're climbing the cliffs and you should be fine.

Laughing Octopus, just gun her down. For All the B&B bosses, as well as Vamp, you can lethally kill their first form. Pick your favourite gun and go nuts, just be aware her rolling attack fucking HURTS.

The tracking section isn't that bad, just remember that the frogs can hear your solid eye and they will do it a lot on this difficulty. If you wanted to save time, you could memorise the route rather than following the path but it's not that hard.

The escape is where some people fall down on the no kills. For the first part just stay low and CQC the guys that climb onto you, don' touch the gun. After that you're gonna have to use it to kill a few Gekkos but be careful not to hit anyone. Remember to save everytime the area changes and it's not that bad.

    Act III
The worst act. By a country fucking mile. When you're trailing the rebel, just stay back, take out guards that are in his way and don't let him see you. If he does, he'll freak out and cause you no end of trouble. This is annoying but it's not that hard.

The motorbike chase is retarded and can die in a fire. I did not have the Solar Gun for this, so that may help quite a bit (I'm getting that in my next play through) but with just the Tranq gun and the Shotgun, this is HARD and a matter of sheer luck and persistence. You will want to give up here, but if you keep trying and eventually get lucky enough (Use Triangle to hide a little, this is pretty much a must) you'll make it though.

Raven is not hard, but the most annoying part is that you don't recover health from the last part of the bike section. You will have very little health from the bike section. If you need, you can lie prone under the stairs to recover health. A fully charged Rail Cannon shot to Raven's face is pretty much 75% of her health. Not hard.

    Act IV
My favourite act and one that is happily free of bullshit. If you have a nice supply of chaff grenades, this is a breeze. Otherwise, it's just a little more challenging (and fun :P). Just remember, you can blow up Gekkos and it doesn't count as a kill and that a level 3 shot to their head will kill them in one shot, not raising an alarm. That's how to deal with the Gekko when the Mk.III is opening the door.

Crying Wolf takes a little getting used to, but it's not really that bad. Just stay away from the frogs and keep the ones you need tranq'd. Stay the fuck away from Wolf, her charge attack is pretty much an instant lose.

After that it's standard fare. Just gun vamp down normally and deal with the Rex section the same way you did before.

    Act V
There are only 5 sections in this act, so it's not that hard >_>

The first part I've heard a lot of different ways of doing. I just ran straight to the right after it started and worked my way towards the door from there. Not a hard section if you do that, just be ready for 2 frogs dropping from the roof halfway through.

The frogs before Mantis can be annoying, just tranq and move. Don't worry too much about getting headshots, if you hit them once in the body just move and look for the next target, they'll drop soon enough.

With mantis, take out all the soldier with the Tranq/Syringe then focus on her Psycho Mantis doll. Once she drops that, just finish her. If you need to recover health from the frogs, you can lie prone to regen before you hit Mantis' doll the first time, just like Raven. Do this if you need, Meryl's DE and Mantis's flying blades do a pretty hefty amount of damage and are kinda hard to dodge.

After that, it's just like normal!

just kinda pissed I got an alert in act IV and I don't know where it happened. It's on easy mode but it's still annoying.

Which room are you talking about? The Tank Hangar is pretty easy, you just need to use the ventilation shafts and run to the door when you get the chance. The Blast Furnace is insanely easy, you just need to go along the usual ledge to the other side of the room and then drop straight down to the elevator.

The only one that gives me trouble is the one with two Gekko's and a couple of groups of mini-Gekko's, a couple of rooms after the Blast Furnace. It's not too hard though, you just have to be patient. I usually just crawl alongside the conveyor belt and then cross it when I get the chance.

Yeah, but it isn't a remake.

Also, considering how reluctant he was to re-release 'em before Subsistence and how much they've been ret-conned, I'm inclined to believe he does want people to just ignore Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.

I've decided that I really don't like the story that much. The game is pretty fun, albeit much too easy, even on hard. It's just that the story just ends sourly.
snake should have just shot himself, this whole business with big boss being alive and ocelot really being himself the whole time was just dumb.

What? That was the best thing, story-wise. The whole theme of the game is the older generation coming to terms with the way the world has changed, and making way for the newer generation. It fits perfectly.

The best way for Snake to make way for the next generation is to shoot himself and not have a magical fairy come and explain the plot.

I think by the end of the game Snake had done enough for the next generation, and he'd had such a crappy existence up to that point (accelerated aging with no cure, finding out hes a biological weapon etc etc) that shooting himself would have been a total downer. I thought it was poetic that he decided spend the rest of his life living the way he wanted to, without war, even though he knows he has less than a year left to live it.
