Connection to PA problem

Frequently, I cannot access the forums at all. PA is the only page that I cannot access. (the main site and the forums)

I have tried waiting and refreshing, clearing cache and cookies, resetting compy, loading in IE (the horror!) and wating several minutes until I try again. These things do not seem to work.

Sometimes, if I reset my router and modem, I am able to. I am not sure if this is some problem with my account, some problem with my computer, or my router or modem, or something else. I hypothesize that is something on the PA side, since I can browse the rest of the internet when I cannot browse PA.

(i said this in the slow thread, but i did not want to derail)

How long does it last? It should happen no more frequently than 20minutes and should only last for a minute or two. So if you can't access PA, wait 5 minutes, hit shift+refresh. If it only comes back up after you reboot your router, you have some wierd caching happening somewhere on your side.

It happens about every 20 minutes or so, on average. What is the difference between f5 and shift+f5?

Basically, It flushes your cache and attempts to redownload everything as if it had never been to the site before. What is useful is that it resets any error states (atleast those that we have to worry about if the rest of your internet works).

Shift-F5 doesn't seem to do anything for me (flushes cache in the background?) but Ctrl-F5 definitely does a cache-dumped refresh.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I've been using a Mac for too long  (Apple + Shift + R for the curious)

That time I was gone-- the problem again. Turned off modem (speedstream dsl) and linksys router, waited awhile, tried again-- could access PA again. This seems to be a problem unique to PA.

Holding shift while clicking the refresh button also does it. I think this might help with the confusion.
