I tried playing some BF2 with friends a week ago and holy shit I fucking hate that game now. Before TF2 I thought it was teh shit but now it looks like an unpolished piece of shit with crappy ass gameplay. I still enjoy HL2:DM.

I still enjoy BF2142 on occasion. Mainly because of JIHAD.
I just started playing this game a couple nights ago. I don't know what took me so long... it's a blast! It also is one of the absolute best looking and sounding games I've ever played. I like using the 60 seconds before a match starts to go around and look at the levels, and the fights sound appropriately frantic.
Everything Valve makes feels incredibly polished, and TF2 even more so than any of their other games.

Are there really huge amounts of pyros? I haven't seen more than three pyros since the weekend. Well, except for that one game where we were farting around on badlands and went ALL pyro, but then I don't even think you were in that game.
Last night, we needed MOAR pyros. We only had like, one.

As far as I know there have only been 3 pyros per team at most. People seem to realise that more than that is a waste; I personally go medic or engy if I see there are 3 pyros, despite me wanting real badly to get my backburner.
The last few times I've played I'll join the server, hit auto assign, goto choose my class and see 3 or more pyros on the team then I make a sad face and go heavy, mow down the n00b pyros and PUSH THE LITTLE CART! GOOD TIMES!

Yeah, between massives amount of work IRL, GTAIV, MGS4, TWEWY, FFTA2 and producing short films, TF2 has gone back to waiting in the wings for me. Though, I did just get a 9800 GTX so I could work from home once again, making TF2 look amazing.

This kind of thing doesn't usually get to me but I've been on fire so much for the past week that just seeing a pyro is starting to piss me off. I also resent how easily they kill me now. To people saying "you have to sneak up on them"... I disagree. Not any more. A pyro's running at me and I'm dead by the time he gets within 10 feet, guaranteed. Flare and shotty means I can't often get that precious second headshot in, and smg is too weak to kill them with the extra 50 hp.
But pyros are not the reason why I'm taking hiatus. I'm just tired of it all. For the meantime.

Give me some credit. Pyros are annoying me, but I'm just not enjoying myself period, and that's mostly due to overexposure.

Would this explain why it seems like one team often steam rolls the other lately? There have been some good games, but for some reason it seems like there are more steam rolls lately. I've also found myself enjoying myself a little less, but I figured I was just sucking as spy or pyro again.

This sounds like a good reason to practice then. :P I never played sniper (I still rarely do), because I sucked ass as a sniper. But after playing for a little while, I'm starting to get the hang of it a little. It's a nice diversion from all the other classes.

You have 4 times as much hours in sniper than in all other classes combined, of course you're not that good with the other classes. And you won't get better at them until you start actually playing them! Besides that, I remember you playing soldier one time, and you didn't do all that bad.
Eh, let Flippy be. I was getting burned out on TF2, I played other games for a few months, and now I'm all about TF2 again. Ice Cream is great, but if you eat it for every meal, eventually you're all like, "Shit, fuck Ice Cream, I want to eat some fuckin' Asparagus, that shit is tasty."
The removal of flamethrower drop off was definitely a mistake. Coming from someone who plays demo/pyro/engineer most of the time, I think Pyro is too over powered.
You can take a soldiers 200hp away in under 2 seconds at the max possible range with the flamethrower, without crits. What we wanted was for the pyro to have the advantage in melee (as in, soldier doesn't just shoot himself in the foot and win). Instead valve have basically said 'you can't survive'* when a pyro does reach you.

Yeah, Rami, I'd like to see the falloff come back, though not as harsh. They claimed it fell to 25% at the tip of the flame, right? How about 50% instead?

Whilst playing another class can make the game fun again you do sometimes just get burnt out on. Although a vast propotion of Flippy's game time is sniper he's still been playing all the maps and game modes for over 300 hours so him being burnt out on TF2 isn't the most surprising thing. Also if you really feel like getting headshot there's always Jonnybot or Aegis or Antipop or Pogo (if he played more than that one time I saw him) or Edgie or Icemopper or Jesuits or Lustre and Oh God I Hate Them All.
@Spectre: I've found it a lot easier to take down sgs with the update, before if an sg caught me unaware I was dead but now I can usually get away and unless the sg is well placed circle strafing the thing is becoming a lot easier.

I agree that the flame drop off should come back, I was wondering why everything seemed to be dying even though they were barely being hit.

As far as Flippy's criticisms go...I agree with him. I typically play a combination of pyro/heavy/medic but I do like to play sniper too when I can. Usually this is regulated to pubs because sniper is usually taken on the PA servers. The new pyro upgrades while very enjoyable when playing the class have made sniper really unfun to play. The sniper has so little health that all it takes is a combination of flare/shotty and the sniper is as good as dead. The extra health makes and other options like using your smg pretty useless most of the time. Honestly I just pull out the machete and hope for a crit.
Before the upgrades the pyro was a pretty fast class. A zig zagging pyro is a hard shot. The extra health and damage they now do makes a pyro/sniper battle pretty unbalanced. When you add the flare gun to the mix it gets into overkill territory.
What makes it worse is that pyros know that a sniper doesn't stand a change against them. Before a sniper could use his smg on a pyro coming from across the map and a half charged shot on the body was much more effective. Now it really is hope for a headshot or get burned to a crisp. I have killed flippy quite a few times since the update as a pyro. Before the update killing him was a pretty rare thing unless I was a spy or a sniper specifically trying to take him out. I know this feeling. Generally, everytime you join a game and play you get that "been here, seen this before" dreadful boring feeling wash over you. I try to switch classes, but I have over 20 hours on many of them so even that doesn't help much. The great thing about tuftoo, though, is you can always drop in and play a bit unlike the other game I have a similar love/hate relationship with... [tiny]WoW[/tiny]

There are just too many snipers and getting headshotted from across the map is not fun.

I would love to be good/decent as the sniper. Its one of my favorite classes.
As a pyro, I am starting to get decent, but there are too many of them.
As a medic, its hard not to get points, but I still feel like I can improve. Mainly because i suck.
As a heavy, I have a decent time.
all other classes i suck. but i want to get better as a sniper, but i just don't know the levels yet.

you have the guys that try and stab then sap when you have a level 3 sentry (it is possible, just pretty tough to pull off succesfully)
and then the guys who uncloak right in front of your sentry
and then those guys that disguise as you
I recommend playing Engineer or heavy
both are fairly fresh and easy to play

I started Engineer, moved to Pyro, moved to spy, then went to soldier, and am now working on sniper
I usually get about 70 hours in each then move on to the next class
that way if I get bored in a game I can just switch classes and I'll still be just as useful to the team
