I'd figure more people here picked it up for the PS3, but we won't know without a poll.
I don't even have a PS3 for staters. I could still have a league for the PS3. It isn't like I have to sit there and watch the matches or something. You guys will just give me your results. But yea, I don't have a PS3 and I am pretty sure a majority of everyone here has a 360 over PS3 (from what I gather).
Played the shit out of this tonight with puffycow and our friend. I am about 90% sure I am getting this, and if I do, I shall be starting a Penny Arcade Fighting Championship league (ala NHL 09 Hotsteppers League).
I figure tourney first to determine champs, followed by rankings from the tourney, #1 contenders match, etc. etc.
will this be on ps3 or 360?
360.
God damn it. I was going to skip this. But if theres a league that tips the scales... I'm going to have to become a beast at this fast.
The thing is that everyone needs to remember that this is just a game. No need to get pissy/quit if you lose. We have had problems with this in the NHL 09 league (season 1 AND season 2) and I would love for this to just be a fun thing to do.
I don't see that kind of problem happening here since there aren't any dumb looking goals to piss people off or one person getting horribly dominated (especially since there are flash KOs). Maybe I will work on setting up the PAFC over the weekend. I will be talking with puffycow with how I should set this up.
Dude, Even if I'm UFC's Glass fucking Joe (pun intended), I would still enjoy playing with solid people.
if I am the worst, the meta game becomes "I will take one of you fucks down, Who will be the one guy mojo beat?"
I'd be down for a PS3 league, if nobody else wants to set it up I could give it a shot as FEARLESS LEADER.
Flash KOs and the like would really make it anybody's game. A well timed counter-knee on a shoot or just counter kick or punch that connects before theirs can end a match in a quick (and hilarious) fashion.

I would love to have a representative for each console (me on the 360 obviously). We need to come up with a way to have the league work. First thing is we need to decide on a weight class I think. It would be easy to have the inaugural be just one weight class to get our bearings down on how everything will work. After that, everyone can give me their players name, their xbl gamertag, etc.
The first league action would be a tournament to determine the champion. After that, I am drawing a blank. The top guys will fight for a title shot, the champ will have a title match each week, and the rest of the players battle to up their ranks. Does that sound right?
I don't want to have a million matches a week and all that shit. That is why our hockey league fell apart from time to time. People don't have time to play like 5-8 matches a week. I think if we stick to 1-2 matches a week for this league it can be relaxing, non-stressful, and fun. There will be no pressure to play X amount of games before X date (well, a large amount of games). This way you can play your 1-2 matches a week and then play against everyone as practice the rest of the time.
Let me know what you all think so I can get an idea of how to run this properly.

I think starting will be the hardest part... You may have to play matchmaker, or have a match making group ala UFC.
Once you have a champ, people with a few matches on their record, and established contendership its all about getting #1 contender status. 1# contenders fall to the middle of the pack if they lose; needs 2 wins to get another shot. If they lose again, back of the line for them (re: rich franklin).
I vote light heavy weight on the class

Chief Wiggum: "Ladies, please. All our founding fathers, astronauts, and World Series heroes have been either drunk or on cocaine."
Would it be popssible to, say, set up the matches, and let those two players work out the time for their match?
IE: First Matches: Mojo vs. Redfield, SoaL vs. GungHo. Winners fight. So, Mojo and Redfield do their match on their own schedule, and SoaL and GungHo do the same. Then, once SoaL and Redfield win, they set up their own time for the match between them. Instead of trying to get it all scheduled at once... I don't know if that made any sense.
MGHM, don't worry about that. It is basically how you described it. Week 1: A vs B, C vs D, etc. Then A and B play whenever during the week. Nothing is really scheduled, just besides who is fighting who. You fight on your own time.
And Mojo (and whoever else), I am not 100% how the real UFC works, so any tips/suggestions would be dandy.
edit: Maybe have everyone fight each other once or twice, then have a mini-tourney of the top 4 guys for the title. This way everyone will have a large enough record to place where they are in the league (instead of being 0-1 if you lose first round, while another guy is 3-1 or 4-0 because he advanced).
Turns out I forgot to assign points to my career guy. Since I'd copied him over from the standard caf thing, I didn't realise I had to do it for career as well.
All stats 15, strength, speed, cardio 1.
Miracle I managed to go 3-0. Muay thai clinch knees may be a bit broken.
So I picked up this and a gold subscription today. If any of you fine folks would like to pad your victory column against somebody incapable of adapting to the unpredictable nature of other people, then holler at yey boy.
On another note, my created lightheavyweight just won the title from Kenflo and now begins the task of ducking Griffin so he doesn't kill me AGAIN. Guys is responsible for all three of the blemishes on my 13-3-0 record so far. The prick.
Those words make me cringe. I heard that too much in the NHL 09 thread. This is followed by someone threatening to quit the league, then they make the playoffs and drop out of the a series deciding game because they don't want to play anymore.
Are you playing against the computer or online randoms? If the computer, I say meh to your complaints. Three of us played at my friends house last night and head clinch rarely happened. Of course this depends on the combatants, but still. If you play with us, no one is going to abuse shit just to win.
I'm done with this fucking game. The clinch is retarded and apparently the assholes who made this decided it was a bad idea to do any play testing.
Ask Rich Franklin how tough clinches are to get out of
Protip: His nose wasnt always crooked/lumpy
Yes, but the difference is this is a game and games are supposed to be fun. It's one thing for the clinch to be a little tough to get out of, it's another for the computer to be doing it every 5 seconds immediately after you bust out of it to the point where either you get KOed, or you lose by decision because you can't do a goddamned thing since you're clinched all the time.
UFC09 does the latter, which makes the game not fun, which means it has failed in its duty to be fun.

I'm going through career mode. When I played exhibition (on a higher difficulty than I am in career, no less) I never had any problems with the computer being completely infuriating. But in career? Not only do they make you fight as a guy whose stats are complete and utter shit against actual UFC guys who are at like 85 overall, they turn the AI from 'reasonable' to 'douchebag clinch-spamming cockwad'.
This is a problem for me, because career mode is pretty much a dealbreaker for me in wrestling/boxing games, which is why I haven't bought a wrestling game since Here Comes The Pain in '03.

OK who wants to play? Preferably someone who won't quit after I mount you and start pounding your face in with a fighter with a lower player rating.
I'm actually not that good I think but some people are a) clueless on the ground and/or b) losers who quit after they are KO'd
ed PantsB is my Xbox Live name if its not clear from my sig
I am gonna be pissed when people quit when I get this game. Christ, being on the ground is where the game gets fun. You either get into a new position, get out of the shitty one you are in, or get your ass beat. Transitions aren't THAT hard. Hell, all they have to do is hold left/right on the right thumbstick to survive usually.
OK that was pretty awesome. I'm Ortiz, other guy picks Rampage. Ortiz can't strike for shit, he's so slow. I finally get a good takedown in the 3rd round, mount, block a transition, and go from sure unanimous loss to KO.
Its more satisfying to win with an inferior fighter, and the ground and pound was working so well I figured I'd go for the guy who was famous for it. He is useless on the feet though, which I think is an exaggeration on UFC's part.
Machida is also surprisingly useless in the video game.

Here's a surprise, Mark Coleman is a goddamn animal on the mat. I'm taking all my old dice chars and remaking them to fit each weightclass and my heavyweight Russian was just cruising through the first four fights or so. Only Eddie Sanchez delays the inevitable KO to the second round. Hell, I even tapped someone to a rear naked choke in the first round (on Advanced, granted). But Coleman?
Skin of the teeth three round decision.
You just can't do anything with him on the ground. He's obviously been eating some of GSP's magic vaseline pellets. I couldn't even take him down with a judo throw until the third round, before that he just countered it into a rear naked attempt.

PAFC sounds awesome.. I just hope I can fight on the undercard. Wish this game had the option to allow spectators.

This should be maditory for all fighting / boxing / mma games henceforth.
The only downfall is that it could cause lag. I believe this is why they didn't have spectator mode in Street Fighter IV.

I call BS. Its in SSF2HD remix which is one of the better games for lag Ive ever played. Its will be in Blaze blue. It will be in Kof 12 (I think)
Sf4 not having it is due to capcom being lazy.
And would be a hell of a feature for a UFC game a strategical as this.

Just out of curiosity, what made you think that?

It seemed like a PS3 type game, rather than a 360 one.
Every game is a 360 type game unless it is Little Big Planet, Resistance, or Metal Gear Solid. ;-)
