I'm loving this game, really loving it. But there's still something lacking. FIGHTING STYLES.
Does anyone remember the first (good) UFC game for dreamcast? that CAF had options to base your fighting style on any existing fighter (with fully customizable move sets), then added a few more bonus styles just for fun (kung fu, "pro" wrestling and sumo stand out in my mind..)
The Career mode is pretty okay (in a fight night 3 kind of okay way) but I really (really) hope they can patch in some new and different fighting styles into this game, besides that, this game really brings back the fun, flash fights that made the Dreamcast game so enjoyable. (I also really like the new "shine" approach to the ground game.)
So I just had my first online match and myself and Machida were victorious against some scrub (scrub status unverified) and Forest Griffin. Second round victory via GnP to the one and only Lyoto Machida.
Anybody wanting a match up feel free to look me up, I will probably on for the rest of the night and would gladly play UFC instead of reading about the history of football in Russia and completing a mediocre season as Arsenal in Football Manager 09.
BJJ is way overpowered.. rubber guard to full mount is too easy. You just throw some punches and hold the right stick to block their transition (further draining their stamina) and throw 1-2 punches, repeat.
I just hate how the online scrubs attempt submissions to get out of ground and pound situations.

Man, I just tapped my nemesis. Two career fights against the guy before, the first one I misjudged the training and went in with just over 50% conditioning, he tapped me in the first round.
Second one I went into having rested a week just to go from 97% to 100%, he tapped me in the first round.
Third, on a blind contract signing, I'm reduced to backpedalling to stay outside his range and waiting for him to swing so I can jump in with a superman. I'm not doing a ton of damage, but he's not taking me to the ground either. Finally he corners me, grabs me in a clinch and tries a slam, I flick back on the right stick and next thing I know he's in my guillotine and a frantic button mash has him tapping.
First round tapout of Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira.
I am just here to say I am pissed that you can't change weight classes with a single fighter, and now I have to start all over again just to fight somebody other than Silva and Okami.

Kudos Crave!
I'd totally pay for DLC that added JKD. Sumo too, but I'm not sure how they would implement it.
The thing about it is that this has online, so they have to make sure it's all balanced and such.

Actually JKD isnt a style, its more of a philosophy. In short, MMA is JKD.
The one silver medal I can't get right now is the 5 combos in 10 seconds. No one wants to trade with you long enough to pull that one off unless they have a clearly superior striker and then you can't necessarily pull it off. I started taking Maia just because I figured no one would want to take him down but three fights (a decision loss to Silva, armbar win v Silva and a quit-when-KO'd vs Henderson) that has not been the case.
- More customization (nicknames, physical appearance, fight styles)
- Spectator mode
- Fedor
What else?
Edit:
They should also add a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure feature where you get to choose to make potentially career ending decisions.
Everything is way too smooth in career mode.

They could add personalities options so that you don't feel like generic fighter A when some guy is talking shit in email.
Career mode is way too easy, I have actually been intentionally losing some fights in an effort to fight somebody other than Dan Henderson or Anderson Silva. This game NEEDED the ability to change weight classes, and unless I am totally missing it, I am totally going to get a good trade in price on this very soon.

is it too much to hope for some of these things in a patch? It's so close to being the perfect MMA fighting game, it just needed a little more time in the oven.
I've got an awesome idea for the next game in the series....cashing in on the spectacular success of Rumble Roses, an all-female MMA game featuring the hottest women in MMA in a variety of fetishtastic outfits.
The game would feature Gina Carano and...well, pretty much just Gina Carano.
Actually JKD isnt a style, its more of a philosophy. In short, MMA is JKD.
explain the bolded statement.
and um lay and praying with nog or my create a wrestler in the multiplayer mode is my favorite thing ever. the idea that 90% of the people i play online reset their xbox in frustration is really funny to me.
Me (Lesnar) vs guy as Mir in my first online match ever. I keep trying to get him on the ground, but Mir keeps trying to submit me. We go to the third round where I get a nice one-two combo and knock him the fuck out. I was so pumped.

I try to use guys that are wrestling, boxing. I just won with Henderson. I like him I guess. I usually try Lesnar because I am a loser. I used Tim Sylvia for a few matches as well.
I have experienced a few different play styles. One guy just sat back it seemed. Got me when I ran in for a takedown with a knee/shin to the temple. I have been submitted a few times as well. You have to get good at your ground game or you will get your ass kicked.

The idea of JKD isnt that, "Okay this is the punch we use, and we kick like this." Its a philosophy of recognizing the different ranges of fighting, (kicking, punching, trapping[clinching] and grappling) and using what works best.
MMA as a sport, by virtue of being a competition, promotes using whatever works. The only things it doesnt take into account is weapons training, and dirty fighting, both of which can be easily trained with some slightly modified methods.
I'm really getting sick of people quitting when I get mount. At least 50% of my fights are ending that way, with the rest split basically evenly between me getting beat and me beating someone who isn't a motherless shit stain.

You just have to get lucky on who you fight. Try fighting some of us around here. We play legit and don't quit.
Another thing that might be good to look at, is before you accept the fight, take a look at their W-L record. If they have 40 or so losses, what are the chances they are one of those quitter chumps?
Just fought some guy online who didn't know the ground game at all, and promptly kicked his ass on the ground the whole fight while he wildly swung as many power punches as he could. Man, he didn't even go for my body, despite my tendancy to only block up 90% of the time. Of course, after winning, he messages me and tells me I suck and I'm a nerd. So of course, I explained to him that if I suked and he lost to me, he must REALLY suck. I was declared a nerd again.
winning online is just a fucking joke. i have yet to find a single person online (even in ranked matches) who understands any of the mechanics of the ground game.
and yeah the way people bitch about you being one dimensional when you beat them on the ground is great. like, i guess i'm one dimensional in the wrong way .
The first half dozen times you fight online will be against people who don't know how to fight on the ground. That will change once you fight people with more experience.

Also Frank Mir is crazy overpowered in this game. Ratings aside he is much more difficult to fight than Silva, GSP or any other fighter. Taking him down means you're probably being subbed out even if you're on top

And standing up with him means you'll be taken down. I had a championship fight against him in career that went to round five, me standing back, striking, standing up every time I was in his open guard. I even got out of two sub attempts because I didn't waste energy trying to work on the ground. Round five, I've done more damage in at least three of the rounds, I'm fairly certain of a decision, his face is starting to swell and then he grabs me, I try a judo throw, he slips out the back and straight into a rear naked, I tap. Two minutes from gold!
Then I G'n'P KO'ed him in round two in the rematch, but damn. I was fairly certain that no match would ever actually go five rounds before that.
