Wierd internet speed problem

I have verizon high speed. It includes a wireless router. I currently have two desktops WIRED into the router. The old HP pavilion, while it has less ram and loads things slower, has a test connection speed of 8-9 MBps. My emachine that is much newer has a test connection speed of 2MBps. The upload on both is about the same.
I switched ports around, did a full restart on all equipment, nothing.
Any suggestions?
