Green lines on my monitor

Just today I have noticed green lines that show up on my grahpics. Its really bad if it pic/video is live action/of a person. The best way I can think of to decribe them is if you took a pic and opened it with photoshop and told it to paint a whole area with a color, the edges of that would be were the lines are. I reinstalled and/or updated all my drivers and codexs. Any ideas? Is my monitor or video card going out?

Is it any video at all or Window's Media specific?

Sounds like your graphics card is dying. The same thing happened to my brothers one when his graphics card was dying.

LCD monitors on notebook systems display green lines when they're about to give up the ghost.

    Is your system a notebook?
And does it look anything like this?

Try a few things: first, if this is an external display, connect it to a different computer and see what happens. Second, boot the system up using some Linux liveCD and see if you still have the problem. This will let you determine if this is a monitor issues or a computer issue, and if it’s a hardware or software problem.

Yeah, I've got this same issue on my Inspiron E1505. Dell wanted $500 to send it in and fix it. The laptop only cost 700 bucks to begin with. I figure I'll deal with it until it becomes untenable.

    Its any video.

    My system is a desktop.

It looks nothing like that image. The lines are mostly outlines around things, or parts of things.

The monitor is old. A KDS Radus Rad-5c. Flatscreen. The video card is a Radeon 9700 Pro.

Got a friend whos going to bring over another monitor, I will let you know how that works.

I'm planing on buying a new system in 6 - 8 months, and I was going to give this one away. Im only going to go so far to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

    THIS!

A friend of mine brought his PC (which I'd built) to me complaining that I "must have bought bad video" because he was seeing green shimmering lines all over his screen when playing games. Turned out that the video card was completely packed with dust; cleaning it out cleared things up instantly.
