Classic Cross Platform Games - If you let them go and ...

You know the saying, if you let them go and they return it was meant to be. And I've come to that cross road in my video game collection and now I need your opinion.

We are all familiar with the cross platforming of the SNES vs Genesis, PS2 vs Xbox, and today. Were a single game is released at the same time on either all or a majority of systems at the same time. But what about the classic games that are being rereleased on next gen systems now. Such as Sega Collection, Intellevision Collections, and VC's.

For example Sonic;

Do I really need my original copy of Sonic 1 for the Genesis? Since I already have it also on my Sonic Collection (Genesis), 6 Pack (Genesis), Sonic Jam (Saturn), Sonic (Neo Geo Pocket), Sonic (GBA), and Sonic (VC).

And that's just one example. I could use that same analogy for Street Fighter II and much much more.

There's also the thought of how long the shelf life of these cartridge games are. I've read many different articles in the past couple of years and that has been a small part of the reason why I'm upgrading to CD/VC based games to preserve my childhood games.

Also, I don't want my daughter losing half her long capacity trying to get Super Mario Brothers to work on the NES.

Your thoughts?

    No opinions to hold or sell from the great G&T crowd?

    Well it's hard to give an opinion when I have no idea what the hell you're trying to say here. Some old games are available on other things now... and? I don't get it.

    I support preserving old games on into the future. Lots of them are spiffy.

    Also, don't bump your own thread.

    I'm saying should you keep your old cart games if you have it on CD, or Virtual Console, or XBL too?

    I really don't mean to bump my own sh*t but I really am stuck on if I should hold on to my old carts or not. I could put them out there for other people to enjoy or should I hold on to them because I'm kind of a collector.
