Is there a Nicorette gum equivalent for DoTA?

edited June 2008 in Games and Technology
About a year ago after getting thoroughly pissed off after a round of DoTA, I yanked the Warcraft CD out of my PC and began to scratch the ever-loving shit out of it with my car keys, and bent the CD really bad (too scared to get CD shrapnel in my eye). I then sat and though about what I had done for a moment, then proceeded to throw the CD like a Frisbee out of my window, aiming at a tree that had been infested with bees the previous summer, hoping that they had returned. And I really fucking hated those bees.

Then I ripped the CD keys into tiny little millimeter squares and threw them into the air above me like confetti that killed my mother, because I ended up punching the paper for the entire duration it was falling.

So now, like all DoTA players I have that urge to play again. It's a very, very strong urge. Enough to go spend another $40 dollars on a WC:III Battle Chest.

I don't want to do that.

Is there anything similar to this game? Anything that might fulfill my urge? I know there are other people like me. I'm just hoping some of you are reading this and can point me in the right direction.

Why would you quit just to get addicted to something else? A WCIII battlechest should run you $20-$30 these days.

You know when you vomit because you ate/drank too much of something? Then you smell/see/taste that thing again, and your stomach turns? That's how I'd feel.

I want something even remotely similar, maybe a little prettier and more functional. If that is possible.

When Starcraft II comes out a newer even better DoTA will probably be created.

the only other thing I can think of is get the battle chest, but instead of DotA, play one of the many cheap knockoffs and hope you can wean yourself off on that...

The cure is the worse then the disease.

WoW is the cure and its worse. WORSE I tell you.

Seriously though, find a good set of books to read or go join some sort of club that doesn't involve gaming. Go to the gym, hang out with friends. Do something positive that will put DoTA out of your mind forever.

I've always wondered why no one has made some money off a good DOTA clone yet. More specifically why Blizzard didn't try and take the counterstrike route and support it as its own game. It's been hugely popular for how many years now?

oh yeah and in regards to the OP, like 6+ months ago, after playing DOTA on and off since before TFT came out when you had to put wisps on beacons to select your hero, I said "This is stupid, I'm never playing this ever again" to which my friends laughed at me, but I've been clean since!
