But I think it'll be coming to all three platforms.

Well it will make a difference.... since my Wii filled up I vowed not to buy a new game until the storage problem was resolved.... but for MM9 I may make an exception and "clean out the fridge."
Update: Capcom pinged us to let us know that the game is currently slated "for WiiWare only" and that the information indicating otherwise in the E3 roster was a mistake on its part.
Wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds.

though I'm really loath to give nintendo any sort of money for downloadable content, it is Capcom we're talking about here

Yeah it's WiiWare only for now unless Capcom changes that.
In attempting to use the Start button trick on the Yellow Devil, I managed to use it on myself when one of his eye bullets hit me (and sent me careening across the room as a result). I beat him though.
Man, I'd totally forgotten that you have to fight your doppelganger in this game too, and he's not a joke like in MM3.
Edit: Oh. All you have to do is stand still and shoot.

People who are being a bit dissapointed already need to realize one thing. This isnt really an epic game release. Its major fanservice to the truely oldschool. Its not going to blow away the gaming market (although I would like if it did, I wouldnt mind a full set of 8 bit games being made... I mean they should be so easy to make now they could be pumped out in short order and still be quality). It is however going to be sweet for a most likely cheap thrill.
SSBB did get way overhyped and too much info released. People expected a gift from God and only got a smile from Jesus. Don't make that same mistake again .

I should prolly research this, but has there been any release date info?
That short vid looked like it said 9/2008? Thats a pretty long time from now for a NES game
And I would hope this would be near simultaneous US/JAP release. I mean, if its loyal to MM2 there prolly little to no text.
I am personally insanely excited, but I dont expect anything rediculous. Just a new REAL megaman. I played MM1-4 a rediculous amount, 5-6 a pretty decent amount. 2 got the most play, with a hard difficulty mega buster only clear almost being a weekly occurance at one point. Me and my friend even had a challenge system where if you died the other person got to choose which robot master you fought, and whoever beat the most won.
I'm gonna go with this guy. Not the toughest boss, but i love the chase before the fight.
The Mecha Dragon about made me crap my pants when I first encountered him as a kid in the '80s. I just hopping along on the blocks, all of a sudden, I got this big freakin' dragon on my back.
Yeah, I was intimidated by the dragon for quite a while. It was so huge, and there were so few place to stand on the tiny white blocks against the stark black background.
Once I stopped getting so damn nervous when fighting the dragon, I realized, he's not actually all that difficult.
1) Gaps that are only just wide enough to leap. As in, you need to jump when only Mega Man's left leg is touching the near platform to make it, and even at that you only land with one leg on the far platform. I don't think they did it in the NES games but that kind of thing is all over the Game Boy versions.
2) Blind drops into a gap that is half open space, half spikes. It's just trial and error, and that's no fun.
Other that that, though, bring it on.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I'm still kinda bummed that they canceled the GB MMAC. I only played 1, and I liked the combo of bosses from different games.
One design element I hope they do bring back: Passwords that aren't words but dots.

My favorite post-8 bosses boss (at least for the X series) would have to be the Sigma stage 2 boss from Mega man X. Can't get more fun then finding out:
I gotta admit, it can be fun to play MM games without knowing a bosses weakness. I'm playing Mega Man ZX Advent and so far I've already tamed 3 bosses without looking on the net for their Kryptonite.
Well, Advent inherits the weakness system of Zero and ZX, which is quite unlike the classic or X series, simpler and more generic. People who've played a Zero game or ZX won't even have to guess the weaknesses, they'll be able to tell. That's too bad, in a sense.
Though I think getting the bosses' movement patterns and being able to escape them is more important in ZXA.
That cannon wall boss in 2 was just the lamest thing ever. You had to 1) make it to the boss room with a full tank of Clash Bombs, and 2) figure out the only pattern that results in you getting to each cannon and still having enough bombs to win.
My favorite? MM4, Cossack Castle Stage 2. You had to get in the thing to get a chance at hitting it, but it essentially made sure you were going to take a few hits.
Another stupid move- Weapon Tanks. One or two might be useful, but do you REALLY need four of the damn things?

"Waitaminute... The room is the boss!?"
Sigma Boss 2 was a nice one to shake things up, but nothing quite beats the reveal for Sigma Form 2 when that music kicks in and Sigma's head floats upward and you finally see it taking up a good 30% of the room.
"Look at the size of that thing!"
EDIT: Especially if you were playing in Mono where all the audio had that distinct echo to it. Holy crap did that work well in that situation.

I wouldnt mind a few pixel perfect jumps. Bring back some of that old school difficulty, even if it was unfair.
Is there any difference between the Anniversary Collections. I have a PS2, 360, and a Wii, so I could buy any version. Any recommendations?
They all suck.
PS2 has loads and the shitty remixed music, but no reversed controls.
GCN has less loads but almost none of the shitty remixed music and reversed controls.
XBOX has some really weird graphical and audio glitches.
You can turn the remixed music off, so the PS2's were no big deal. Besides, the ones for MM6 were excellent, I thought.
The main problem was the imput delay (at least on the GCN version). Like it was most noticeable when you tried to manually rapid fire and well, didnt suck at it. But it heavilly affected jumping and if you deny its exsistence, play quick mans level on the collection then on the NES and tell me its fine.
You know, I'm not sure which I loath more, appearing/disappearing blocks or spikes. I guess I can hate both since many times the blocks appear ABOVE spikes or some other one-hit-hill death device. In some instances I don't even use all the blocks. I'll use Rush/Item 2/Magnet Beam whatever item I've got to help me clear jumps in the game.

Doing this right now, actually.
Crash Man took me two energy tanks. The rest were pie.
Energy tanks?
WTF is an energy tank? Id rather use weapons over those things. If you actually want a challenge you never use an E tank
There is suck all over the MMAC, and you're right, the first time I failed Quick Man's level in years was on the MMAC, but it was the PS2 version I noticed the delay on. It's probably on the GCN version as well.
The VC versions of MM and MM2 are apparently amazing when compared side by side with the AC.

the gamecube one has fucked up controls, and I never fully trust the 360's backwards compatibility if I can help it.

Least favorite? The wall cannons with destructible walls that you need the Crash Bombs for.

There were only a few in the MM classics that I can think of.
Most of the good tough platforming involved disappearing platforms. Of which we've already seen in screenshots of MM9! So yay!

1000 points, or ten fun bucks for you and I.
Can't beat that with a stick.
Cue bitching of paying 1000 points for an NES game in 3, 2, 1...
Just my two cents.
