    I'm doing okay.

Kind of sleepy, I think I'll be going to bed soon.

I will be taking care of my PAX arrangements tomorrow after work, I'm pretty excited about it.

Wait, hang on a sec. I'm not ferociously defending my musical tastes here. Or my personal character. Don't mean for it to come off that way. I just made a passing statement that I'm used to being in the minority opinion when it comes to things like this. Then dudes got angry.

Precisely. So what, the radio doesn't want to pay royalties any more? So the radio can stop playing music.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the RIAA now wants them to pay additional royalties directly to the RIAA as opposed to just the artists

meaning the RIAA wants to more or less govern the radio

therefore the the broadcasting group sent a dictionary to define the difference between royalties and taxes

the RIAA is comprised of the worst kind of fascists: incompetent ones

    no you lunkhead
the recording industry wants them to pay more royalties on top of the royalties they already pay and claims that if they don't they're effectively pirating the music that they're already paying royalties for because they aren't paying extra royalties

oh I see, well then fuck the RIAA. That article reads as though the radio just want the music for free.

Over here you pay your royalties to the PRS and the MCPS and then they give the money to the copyright holder. All is good.

yeah, i completely agree that artists should get royalties, in fact, they should get a bit more

but it's always been directly between the artist (via their agent) and the station

now the RIAA wants to inject itself into the system to try and finally make itself relevant, almost like a brokerage fee, or a mafioso-style union, which is way fucked

it seems that it currently is suffering delusions of granduer from its major lawsuits against children

Don't most record labels send a free copy of the album to a radio station for promotion anyways?

That's how my dj buddy gets most of his CDs.

Yes, but if your DJ buddy plays it on air he still has to pay a royalty.

I just wanna use this to shamelessly promote Bomb the Music Industry, who record and produce their own music, sometimes on nothing more than a PowerBook.

i also record and produce my own music, usually with nothing more than my pc and a guitar

    sometimes just the pc

the difference is that i'm not FUCKING AWFUL

    oh ho ho

actually I can't really say anything, cause the I got a lot out of your "how to play guitar thread"

but I can't agree with your taste
except that you're disagreeing with just about everyone here because we're saying that's awful

Yea well that's usually the side I'm on anyways, didn't say I was disagreeing with Knob alone. My musical taste tend to clash with everyone elses'. I'm like the only person in Southern California who doesn't hate the bands I love.
Bomb the Music Industry (of course)
    The Pogues
    Defiance, Ohio
    Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros
    Hop Along, Queen Ansleis
pretty much anything by Tom Waits
    Street Dogs
    pre-Sing the Sorrow AFI
    Old Crow Medicine Show
    William Elliot Whitmore
I mean I can go on...

I can justify my hatred for Street Dogs
I can't listen to McColgan sing or should I say mumble in time with the music
There's a reason Do or Die is like my least favorite Murphys album

There are no words there is only a cacophony of noise
The only time I can listen to him is the Early Years CD
There's a recording of a live show on there that they did in like a bar, and the crowd drowns him out a lot which helps
But there's also a bitchin' cover of Guns of Brixton on there

And they haven't played around here since then

I could have seen them on their st patrick's day show this year with my roomate/friend from college who's an uber mass-hole. However I got a really bad stomach virus the day before (I vomited like 5 or more times i dont remember), plus the fact that my friend is a bullshitting tool convinced me otherwise to just go home and recover. That night i passed out from like 6 or so till 930ish the next morning on st patrick's day.

I probably missed out on a good show, but I got some bj's that day from my girlfriend at the time and didnt have to deal with my annoying ass friend so I dont have any regrets.

You know what's bullshit about those royalties the bars and radio pays?

You talk to any of the lower level bands that have small recording contracts and they have never seen this magical cheque that supposedly gets divided up amongst all of the artists.
