Peter acted like he didn't know Daredevils real identity but people online have said he did know. If this is the case then I wish Bendis could keep better track of his own plot points. I mean, it doesn't ruin the story for me or anything but it's just an annoying error that shouldn't have gotten past editing.
When Spidey teamed up with DD, Strange, Iron Fist and what not, Murdock actually came to his school and told him who he was.
So Murdock tells Peter his identity during the Ultimate Knights arc. This is stretching, I know, but he could have been so upset with what was happening around him he just forgot. Of course, Spidey wasn't acting too upset for some reason during the whole issue despite all the death and destruction around him.

I dont know, I thought that Bendis portrayed Peters reaction to the end of the world pretty well. He is obviously freaking out, but he pushes himself to act and doesnt have much time to have a mental breakdown. He is simply too busy and overwhelmed to do anything else.
After reading through the Ultimate Knights arc I see that Murdock only mentioned his name once to Peter so it's not completely implausible that he forgot his name. Still doesn't excuse the error but oh well. BTW, DAMN was the Clone saga arc fantastic.
Stuart Immonen's art on these Ultimatum issues has been really great. His work is so solid and it has such a great sense of scale to it. I still hate that Loeb is the driving force behind Ultimatum (and I suspect that's where the Daredevil thing may have come from) but for an epic "shit is getting real" story, USM is handling it really well.
You know, after this issue I wonder if the "change in direction" for the series post-ultimatum will be one of two things:
1. I can see Spidey becoming more of a hero in the eyes of the public with JJJ's change in perspective. Essentially a completely flipped dynamic than what appears in 616.
OR
2. Spidey joins the Ultimates post-Ultimatum.
Anywho, this issue was awesome. The Hulk/Spidey banter was just so great.
Ehhh... I thought it was kind of lame how Ultimate Hulk was made to act just like regular Hulk, though I will agree that the exchanges were still pretty funny.

Well, he did say that he was hungry while looking at a bunch of corpses. That's pretty much Ultimate Hulk no?
Okay... does anyone else think that this thing has gotten so bombastic, the only way for it to end is for some kind of reset?

I think that's what was foreshadowed in Ultimatum #2, at least from what was posted on S_D (ha!)
Basically all the dead heroes are actually in limbo or Valhalla or wherever Cap and Thor are right now, and when they finish their fight or kill whoever it is runs the place they get all the souls back for the heroes
Or maybe the Ultimate Universe and the Squadron Supreme universes fold in on each other and create the NUE (New Ultimate Earth)
OK, just got finished reading the 5th USM trade today so now I've read everything but the Symbiote War arc which I should be getting tomorrow and the Ultimatum story. Overall it was fantastic but I need to eventually read the whole thing in chronological order as I jumped all over the place in my initial reading. But my favorite arc was probably the Clone Saga although the Ultimate Knights arc was great if only for the Kingpins amazing ownage of Peter, only to get the shit-end of the stick at the very end.
my favorite is still from the second time he meets the Kingpen.

Just got the War of Symbiotes trade today which means I now have all of USM volume 1 in trade and hardcover format except for the Ultimatum story which isn't finished yet. I will eventually read the whole thing from start to finish, probably before the first issue of volume 2 come out. I'll be getting volume 2 in single issues.
Not USM, but here's a preview for Ultimatum #3. I must say, this doesn't look too bad honestly. CBR also has the last Ultimate X-men issue previewed which shows more of the Jamie Madrox suicide bombers.
Okay, so I just finished the latest issue (131) and it was pretty good.
JJJ's change of heart was very interesting and I'd like to see how that develops. The ending was ... not something I want to see in my USM. Demons escape into New York, wtf? I don't remember but has Ultimate Spidey encountered Dr. Strange and his demon villains? Or was that ASM?

He has. He got trapped in a Nightmare by one of them once. Right before his and MJ's fancy date.

Ah. Well, that's supernatural but at least not to the extent of having demons roaming the streets - sorry, roofs of New York. I'm fine with pseudo-science but let's keep magic out. In fact, I'd much rather Spider-Man be the only superhero in existence, at least in his own book. Well, him and Johnny Storm.
USM is the only monthly comic I follow apart from 100 Bullets. Could one of you gentlemen be kind enough to enlighten me on what the fuck Ultimatum is and what impact it's going to have on USM?

Umm... Ultimatum is Magneto trying to destroy the world, and it will end Ultimate Spider-Man as we know it. It has been said repeatedly that Ultimatum is the end of Spidey, and that someone new will be picking up the mask afterward.
Take that for what you will...

It will still be Bendis. It's still his baby, so to speak. So I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

While I hope Peter lives through Ultimatum somehow, I wouldn't mind seeing Pete's clone take over the book for awhile. I've read every story arc of USM sans UMTU and Ultimate Power and I think it would be good to see how the clone takes over the mantle.

I just wish he had more time to finish all the lose threads up in the current iteration...
Scorpion clone, MJ she-beast, Gwen coming back, more Kitty/Kong love...
It just feels like things aren't done yet... but who knows what the future holds. I'm still damn optimistic about it.

What? I'd read that it was going to be pretty major changes, but that essentially, we'd be picking up with Peter a short time in the future. I had the impression that the changes were less about characters dying or disappearing and more about the world becoming a very different place and Peter being forced into a more mature hero role. Of course, that's all inference based on the interview with Bendis I read, not direct quotes from the horse's mouth.

Well there is the mini-series that bridges the gap between Ultimate Spidey 1 and 2 (serious spoilers)
ULTIMATUM: SPIDER-MAN REQUIEM BOOK #1 (of 2)
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Pencils by MARK BAGLEY & STUART IMMONEN
Covers by STUART IMMONEN
Spider-Man has fallen and the Ultimate Universe will never be the same. Join Brian Bendis, Stuart Immonen and original series artist Mark Bagley as they begin a two-part story celebrating the heroism of your friendly neighborhood webslinger as written by none other than...J. Jonah Jameson(?!). FEATURING NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN ART FROM MARK BAGLEY.
40 PGS./Rated A ...$3.99
There's more than enough wiggle room that I'm sure it'll eventually wind up back to the status quo, but this is at least where they're starting.
And I agree with regretting all the dangling ends left over from this run. Each one of those had a ton of potential, and if we're going for a clean break to try and clean up the universe it seems unlikely we'll ever mention them again.

Isn't Bagley a DC exclusive? Or did he have a clause that he can do a few issues of any Spider-Man book written by Bendis?

That's the actually kind of cool thing about this one off, all the Bagley art is from pages he submitted during the run but they didn't use. Which will all be used for flashbacks and is meta enough it makes me grin.
he story told in “Requiem” will involve both present day and flashback sequences. In the present day scenes, which will be drawn by artist Stuart Immonen, Jonah is seeking out people to hear their stories about Spider-Man. “And the stories Jonah is hearing were drawn by Mark Bagley,” Bendis explained. “They're complete full stories drawn by Mark before he left for DC. They're untold tales of 'Ultimate Spider-Man. They're stories no one has seen and there are guest stars galore.”

That's why Bagley is the best artist out there. Forget Hitch. Forget the Kuberts. Bagley uber alles.
See, this is Ultimate Spider-Man #49, page 6, hanging beautifully in my apartment:
With Art Thibert as his inker, it's even more bitchin'.
Baglery does kick ass, and even worse than having him jump ship to DC was having him immediately get on Trinity. I refuse to even touch that mess, and it's such a shame to see him tied up in one project for the entire year plus.

The change of heart actually made me choke up a bit.
That whole splash page with him staring at spider-man diving in to save that person while saying "He's a hero" and lamenting persecuting him...it was powerful to me.

I crappily scanned that sequence ages ago when I was trying to convince someone USM was awesome. :-p
Was that exchange in the Ultimate Knights arc? I don't remember it at all, but it's freaking awesome.
The Ultimate Knight exchange goes the other way, with Peter not saying anything and trying desperately to hold back tears by the end of it.
Kingpin: "Oh, got any fat jokes you'd like to say? Yeah, I didn't think so."
That's almost an actual quote.
