Don't know if this means anything but both USM #132 and 133 come out on the same day two weeks after Ultimatum #4(April 8 and 22). Of course the odds of #4 coming out on time are pretty slim unless that 3 month gap between issues 2 and 3 gave Finch enough time to catch up. But I have a feeling Peter might actually bite it while fighting Magneto.

I think so too. Of course, there are at least two clones floating about out there. And Bendis has shown us how he feels about clones with Gwen. If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and walks like a duck...

It kind of sucks that Ultimate Spider-Man, a book that hasn't had a delay in its entire publishing history, has to be delayed because of dickheads Loeb & Finch. And Finch used to be a monthly artist, but he reverted back to his Aphrodite IX "I'll do what I want when I want" phase.

If it isn't Peter Parker behind the mask, it isn't Spider-Man.

Every time they've dicked around with the mainline titles (killing off Aunt May, getting rid of Mary Jane, clones, etc.) they've ended up having to backtrack and retcon and in some cases apologize to get the books back on track. Why does no one ever learn from history?

To be fair, Aunt May is now like 102 years old, and nobody gives a shit about her anymore.

So long as she doesn't know Peter's identity, she's just a constant source of guilt and worry. It's only when she knows that she becomes interesting by providing a unique view of his life and serve as a source of support.

You want to see how nonsensical that claim is?

Which one is Peter Parker: 616-Spider-Man or Ultimate-Spider-Man?

Because if it's both, then apparently the only thing that matters is the loose contents of the story (name, powers, names of relationships). Yet somehow, despite the two Peters having radically different relationships with damned near everyone in their lives, people seem okay with both of them being Spider-Man.

Spider-Man is Spider-Man. It's only people who think somehow that new stories erase old ones that really are going to have a problem with it.

Peter Parker is always Peter Parker. He's the guy trying to do the right thing, despite the fact that doing it consistently screws Peter Parker over tremendously. Because not doing the right thing would be even worse. That's the case both in 616 and in the Ultimate Universe, despite all the other differences, and that's why Peter can be in such different circumstances and still be Spider-Man.

Spider-Man stories might work with someone else behind the mask if that's the story. But eventually that story will have to end and we'll need Peter back. That indian Spider-Man they had a while back could never have completely replaced the mainstream Spider-Man, I think many people would agree that Ultimate Spider-Man is well-established enough that it's in the same boat.

Are we going to have the whole clone plot from a decade back? I never read it but I've read horrible things about it. There was a clone called Scarlet Spider who became Spidey for a while before Peter came back, right? I'm not sure. Still, I don't want that happening in my USM.

To be fair, I do think there is some distinction between controlling metal and controlling magnetism. I mean, it might be semantics, but the distinction DOES exist.

If nothing else, there's scale. Magneto can tap into the very magnetic field of the planet, whereas Octopus seems to be quite limited.

I suspect it's something like this: Magneto can control magnetism, which allows him to apply force to metal, whereas Ock can control metal itself, directly. This means that each is stronger in a certain way, though Magneto is surely stronger overall.

Plus, let's not forget that magnetism is really an aspect of the grand unifying force, such that an elemental like Magneto can tap into the very force of creation (see his wormhole creation in 616).

For some reason, Spidey's alternate costumes aren't as awful as other super heroes. I really liked Scarlet Spider's costume and Ben Reilley's spiderman. Then when he had to pretend to be other superheroes I dug those costumes too.

I think part of why I loved it was the fact that it was a logical extension of Tony's suit-building capabilities. Sure, I get him not wanting to sell it for fear of it causing problems (e.g. Armor Wars, not to mention that great What-If?) but why not give it to his smart friends?

I mean, if you're, say, Hawkeye - with no powers, just skills - wouldn't you call Tony up one day and say something to the effect of "I'd like to have more than just leather keeping bullets out of my body" or whatnot? Given that there were apparently no downsides for Peter other than Tony's apparent use of the suit to gather telemetry on him (something that only makes sense in the fascist-leaning tellings of Tony's SHRA story) why wouldn't it be done?

I know, that seems like a big downside, but it's a downside that wouldn't have even been suggested before Civil War, so that excuse doesn't work before then.
