Were those the Jurgens issues or another writer? I never read the books, but going by the Life of Reily page (which is just fascinating), Jurgens was pretty good with setting up Ben, for all 6 issues.
man... windows sounded really weird back in the early 90's.

KSSH is okay! Sort of. You know, even today when I read comics I try to ignore the corny sound things because half the time they just don't work. KZAAAAANG? What's that.
ok, this is in no means an attempt to bring up an argument about BND, I was just curious about one thing:
Mephisto made everyone forget about spiderman unmasking, and also removed the knowledge of his secret identity to people who knew it before that. Since this part of the spell (or whatever) is about a collective mind wipe, is the marriage the same thing, or an actual change in reality?
I guess the question is - Are mary jane and peter still, technically, married (but just don't remember that they are)? Or is the past actually changed to the point where they do not?

No, that's actually changed. They didn't get married but they were together. We don't know exactly what happened, because editorial is still figuring it out.

Right, but couldn't that be a false set of memories?
What i'm trying to find here is a way for peter parker to be an unwitting adulterer.

I actually really liked how they wrapped up the first BND story. They had a ton of loose ends and they managed to tie them up in a way that wasn't cheap and actually felt like Spider-Man again. Granted, I still think Ultimate is way better... but ASM is at least something I'm not embarrassed to be reading now.

Soooo yesterday I picked up the last USM TPBs I needed. Wiki tells me that I therefore own 1-128, and it looks like we're only up to 131. Is there a decent place online to order back-issues, so I can catch up? Given that Ultimate Spidey is pretty much the only Ultimate stuff I read, is there anything else besides 129-131 I need to get to understand what the fuck is going on in Ultimatum?
is this the thread where I bitch about how much I hate Ultimatum?
Oh boy!
I fucking hate Ultimatum (and Ultimates 3).
Volumes 1 and 2 of the Ultimates are some of my favourite comics, and Ult. Spidy was the only iteration of the character I ever really gave a fuck about.
Ultimatum is perhaps my most hated comic ever because it shits so much on what came before (it's own horrible, horrible faults being put to one side).
I can't say enough bad things about Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum is basically what I'm saying.
--
I imagine the reason there's not a thread dedicated to how much Ultimatum sucks is due to the fact it would consist of page after page of people going "Yeah, it does really suck."

Not really. Ultimatum is pretty straightforward with no subtext or any kind of commentary. Magneto is trying to destroy the world. Done. Now go enjoy Ultimate Spidey.

Speaking of Ultimatum, there is still a potentially cool moment that could happen. Spoilers just in case...
We still haven't seen Rick Jones show up yet and I think he might be the one to defeat Magneto. Not by fighting him but by revealing the secret of the mutant gene to him via telekinesis. Mags would probably go catatonic allowing whoevers left to finish him off.

I thought they were going to ignore Ultimate Origins altogether the way the series is going.
They did show a Watcher looking at Hulk in the first Ultimatum issue so I don't think Origins will be completely ignored.

No Ultimate Spidey until May makes a sad DVG. It's also confirmed my suspicion that it's the only book I care enough about to actually go to the store for, the others I pick up are just bonuses.
This might be OT for this thread due to it being video game related but how is the PS2 version of USM? I'm thinking about getting it but I want a few opinions of it first. Also is the PS2 special edition worth picking up on Amazon?

You can beat the game in three hours just doing the story. And Peter has only 5 lines of non-story dialogue that is recycled when you web swing from A to B.
So I should probably pick up the 10 buck used edition at my local Gamestop. Although the concept art you get with the limited edition (I'm assuming done by Mark Bagley) sounds neat. I hope that plot line will continue in USM vol. 2.

Get it as cheap as you can.
And if you read the recent Venom story arc before Ultimatum, a good portion of it was in the USM game.
I heard that a hint as to what happened to Peter's parents is revealed in the game but then Ultimate Origins kinda invalidates it.
It's revealed at the end:
After Peter saves Trask from Venom, SHIELD comes in and arrests Trask. Then Peter finds a file detailing how his parents died in the plane crash. His father died on impact but his mother, who died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, stated that something that looked like Venom caused the plane to crash.
The following cutscene then hints that when Peter's dad and Eddie's dad we're packing up the project after Trask told them to hand it over, Eddie's dad stowed a sample away, it somehow bonded to him mid-flight, and thus caused the plane to crash.
Don't know how Origins invalidates it though since I haven't read it.

That's definitely different than what happened in Origins:
Richard Parker and Banner, along with Henry Pym and a few others, were trying to remake the super soldier serum. Banner injects himself with it, Hulks out for the first time, and apparently ends up killing both Parker and his wife. Peter was just a baby and was even there when it happened but he escaped harm of course. Oh, and I say apparently killed because Joe Quesada has stated that the Parkers were not killed the way they seemed in Origins but I don't quite know what he's getting at.

In Ultimate origins:
Banner Hulked out and destroyed the building where Banner, Peter's dad and Hank Pym were trying to duplicate the Super soldier serum. Peter's mom took baby Peter to see da-da when Hulk freaks out, crashing the building and killing Peter's mom via ricochet cinderblock
Oops I have to clarify something I said in my last post:
It wasn't Quesada who said that about the Parkers, it was Bendis. Here's the info from last Februarys NYCC:
- What's up with Spider-Man's origin as detailed in "Ultimate Origins?" Did the Hulk kill Spider-Man's parents? "Peter's life is much more involved with the Marvel Universe than even he knew," Bendis said, clarifying that the Parkers were not killed by rocks. "The only person who knew this was Nick Fury, who is [consequently] more fatherly to Peter, while he's more dickish to everybody else."
umm... hasn't it been established numerous times in USM that Peter's parents died in a plane crash? I mean, it's like, everywhere in USM.

They looked pretty dead in Ultimate Origins, and it's not as though the plane crash couldn't have been a cover-up, so I can see why people might believe Hulk had killed them. That said, it's possible both scenarios are partly true, as it was in fact Hulk who was flying the plane.

What if the parents who died in the plane crash were actually hired by Norman Osborn because he knew he would hate Parker even before he met him? This could be Ultimate "parents come back" saga like in Micheline and Bagley's ASM run.
The way the Ultimate line turned to crap in the last year, just add that part to twist the knife in the wound. It certainly can't hurt it.
pretend the entire Ultimate line besides Spidey doesn't exist.

Eh, that's a bit harsh. Mark Millar's Ultimates 1 and 2 and Ultimate X-men run are great. Bendis's UXM run is also good, at least I think so. I haven't read BKV's UXM run yet but I'm going to. And the Bendis/Ellis/Millar runs of Ultimate FF are all good although I haven't read Mike Carey's stuff.

God the runs after Millar sucked. They all were basically one shots that never went anywhere. there was even a full set called new mutants that introduced four or so X-men all completly unrelated to each other. Also Beast died. That sucked

I paid $20 bucks for it a few years ago and I got my money worth. I still play it every so often. Playing Venom is only OK until you beat the game, then tearing around the city is a lot more fun.

The city goals were just swinging around beating up muggers and car chases and occasionally racing the human torch (was there a find the lost girl and bring her to her family? I can't remember). You stay in one part of the city and just get all the goals done. I'll give you 4 hours to beat the game just because I'm a nice guy
